Book Description

This autobiography, with its quirky and up-beat title and enchanting naive illustration on the front cover, will certainly attract the most discerning reader whether they are travelling along the breast cancer journey or know of someone in that situation.

The author who is brave clearly displays how she has met adversity head on, not only once but twice in her short life time. Her courage, indomitable spirit and triumph over all that was "thrown" at her on her personal cancer journey, was due to positive thinking, loving family, friends and excellent medical care.

A short synopsis reveals Sarah-Jane as a 16 year old battling Hodgkins Disease with the help of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Overcoming that hurdle and getting "back on track with her life", she embarks on a career, marries and has two small daughters. Then beyond her control, breast cancer gives her yet another challenge in her life.

Sarah-Jane writes and shares with the reader an easy to read account of her "journey", all her feelings and experiences felt during her diagnosis , treatment and early years following treatment with warmth and honesty, humour and finally success, being able to resume her life with her loved ones, healthy and well. It never ceases to amaze me how courage and positive thinking can be given to us when we have HOPE.

About the Author

This is the first book that Sarah-Jane has written and it now appears as helpful reading material in the library at Cancer Research UK, and also in the boutique reading library at Breast Cancer Care in Western Australia. Sarah-Jane was born in Wolverhampton in the West Midlands and lived in Shropshire, England for the first thee years with my family, before being whisked away to Rhodesia where she spent her early childhood. She returned to the United Kingdom to finish her education, and pursue her career in travel. I have made my home in a tiny village in Bedfordshire where time is devoted to bringing up my two daughters, a female cat (following a mix up with its gender) and a Shih Tzu called Freddie, whom I named after one of the surgeons who saved my life. My husband can mostly take care of himself. My interests range from a deep love of boy bands to raising money for a charity which is very close to my heart, Breakthrough Breast Cancer. I have survived two forms of cancer. As a result you can find me doing anything from running a marathone to juggling collection cans at local supermarkets and hosting black tie events to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and other related charities. Worms on Parachutes, came to fruition after being so inspired by my surgeon. He operated on me several times, one particular operation lasted many hours. I felt the best way to thank him and his team was to write a book in order to raise funds for the under-appreciated heroes of my hospital team that treated me exceptionally well. Writing Worms On Parachutes has been fulfilling. I know that if this book inspires just one person then my journey has been worthwhile. I feel it is important to know and understand that treatments for cancer can be successful because that in itself offers so much hope to others . I have been involved in media opportunities in The Stylist magazine and also commented on how breast cancer has impacted on my life in the Independent and the Independent i. I am an avid supporter of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, and am very keen to help raise awareness of breast cancer in my community. I have been fortunate to receive media interest to promote this book at a local level and am very excited to be featured in the Daily Mail Newspaper. This story is written by a very brave woman who conquered Cancer not once but twice. It is very difficult to read at times but is very rewarding as she and her family defeat all of the challanges placed before her. It is a must read for those who are faced with this disease and need to see that there is hope for them also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressed Breast Cancer Doctor March 21, 2013
As a breast cancer specialist it is always rewarding to learn more about this world from the patient perspective and Sarah writes a wonderful book that opened my eyes many times. She is candid and sincere. Impressive while vunerable. A very enjoyable, inspiring read.

A very well written account of one woman's battle with breast cancer. Written in a style that draws the reader in from the beginning. A true story of courage, positivity and determination told with honesty and at times, humour.

Such an amazing book to read. It was recommended to me as a cancer survivor myself but nothing prepared me for the emotional journey that I travelled whilst reading this book. Sarah has a wonderful way of capturing every moment and making you feel every part with her. Truly inspiring to see how we can beat this nasty disease.
