Disappointing,
By Inda (South West, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Worms World Party (CD-ROM)
If you already own previous versions of the Worms series then you will be very disappointed with this latest reincarnation.Apart from the many bug fixes there is nothing extra to justify the price. Contrary to popular belief, there are no new weapons and the WormPot mode is very similar to the cheat options from Worms Armageddon. The new front-end graphics are tailored for a younger audience with the exact same layout as Worms Armageddon too. Worms World Party also lacks league play and a world ranking system that made Worms Armageddon so popular. There is no mission editor as of yet, Team17 have made this as an extra download as they did with The Fiddler for Worms Armageddon. Worms World party is a good game if you do not have Worms 2 or Worms Armageddon only because of the fact that Worms is a fantastic game in it's own right. Give this game a miss if you expect new features from a sequel.

The Worms series of games has a dedicated following,
and for good reason. It's just darn cute, clever and very fun to play, particularly over LAN with other Worm fans. Warning! The US release has a very serious problem that stops the game from even loading. That can be very disapointing after waiting a week for the game, tearing of the shrink wrap, installing and then, CRASH! "Illegal Operation". Fortunately, there is a patch available from the developer's Web Page that fixes the problem. Still, this sort of thing should never happen. My experiance with these sorts of situations is that a couple of years from now I'll go to reinstall the game and the patch will no longer be available on the shifting sands of the Internet. So if you buy Worms World Party in the US, download the patch and burn it onto a CD for safe keeping.

The Best Strategy Game,

Although no new weapons from Worms Armageddon, it is a a great improvement. All weapons are at your fingertips from the start. There are 20 multiplayer missions, on or off-line which are an absolute blast. You now have a mode of play for "Fort Games" which makes it a whole lot easier to play forts. Multiplayer games with the "Wormspot" is excellent, with options from "Super Rope Mode" to "David and Goliath" you can mix and mach to create more modes of play then you ever thought imaginable. Training is very challenging, even to a seasoned wormer. There are more missions and they are more challenging then ever. WormNet, as always still has problems, but seems to be going well. The worst part is they still have not restarted the rankings on WormNet. All in all it is a great game and very well put together.

Worms World Party,

Parents may be wondering whether to buy WWP for their kids. As for violence, this game could easily be turned into a cartoon because that's what the graphics and content look like. There is a blood mode, but it is "off" in the default mode. The Worms' language has some occasional "damns," but mostly you'll hear: "you'll regret that" and "take that."In Worms you lead a platoon of up to eight worms into battle, online or on one computer. Turn by turn, the worms try to blast each other with almost 60 weapons, such as Uzi machine guns and the "god" of Worms, the Concrete Donkey. Worms veterans may wonder what is new in this fourth game in the Worms series. Team17 left out the "Tournament Mode" for the PC and the "Worms World Map" that they promised in a preview of the game on their web site. Plus, there are no new weapons, although Team17 didn't promise those. That is why I give the game only three stars. Here are the new features. Single Player Missions: 45 new missions in WWP most of which are puzzle style with only one worm. Training & Time Attack Modes: 19 new training missions and 16 new time attacks. Wormpot: A new mode in which you can select three game modifications at once such as "shot-does-not-end-turn" and "specialist-worm-mode." These Wormpot modifications can be played online or hotseat. Multi-Player Missions: 20 new missions playable online or hotseat, but these are basically enhancements of the single player missions. Online play is accessible from Wormnet assuming that it is working. I have found the Wormnet service to be unreliable. Also, ranks have been taken out.

Terrific, versatile, magnificent worms,

Worms World Party is a strategy game. The graphics are great. Play control is precise. The weapons are abundunt and versatile. Sound effects are good but can be customized. This is by far my favorite game, along with Worms 2 and Worms Armageddon. It takes a little while to learn but it's well worth it. The better you get the better the game gets. I just can't get enough

Correction on the subject of delay,
By
This review is from: Worms World Party (CD-ROM)
A reviewer on May 26 commented that the quality of WWP is suspect because the 'producer' is failing to meet their schedule. Ignoring all the various possible replies w.r.t. the nature of game production, I just want to point out that Team 17 put this game to gold about 2 months ago. The fault for the US release delay lies with Titus, and as far as THAT goes, I share the aforementioned reviewers anguish at this pointless delay.WWP Has been available in the UK for a month now, and is reportedly quite good. Though arguably WWP gives you little more than you could get with W:A plus the 'Fiddler' (an unofficial program which allows a remarkable level of tweaking of basically every detail of W:A), WWP DOES give you the ability to use all these niceties ONLINE with other people. I consider that to be a big plus, and am drooling in anticipation of the day, years in the future, when Titus actually releases the @#$!* game to market. I have not played WWP yet, but I can confidently say that I know as much as it is humanly possible to know short of that, and I therefore have no reservations with giving this game five stars. Happy Worming!

Play this game with a friend!,

Worms World Party is a game with an moderately steep learning curve. It's control scheme indicates it's clearly aimed at the game platform crowd, but it works very well on the PC platform. My work colleagues and I play this game on a regular basis - once you can master the basic controls, it's a tremendous amount of fun. Don't let the cartoon-like 2D animation fool you - this is a game that requires considerable strategic planning several moves in advance. The number of powerful weapons only adds to the strategic choices. Shall I use the Ninja rope, swing over a cliff, and drop a Holy-hand grenade? Shall I release an exploding sheep over a deep chasm to destroy an opponents worm? Should I fire Patsy's Magic bullet instead, eliminating a worm half-the-map away. The strategic possiblilites are endless. The Ninja rope is particularly useful, as it allows you to swing over cliffs, or into crevices, and plant explosive weapons in places you wouldn't be able to otherwise. You can choose to play the single-player campaign, but the multiplayer is the very best reason to buy this game. Play this game with friends! And don't forget to bring your exploding sheep to this party!

surpirzed and disappointed,

Team17's Worms series has been a wonderful part of my day ever since I came across the original Worms back in 1995. With Worms2, I was pleasently surprized with the update in graphics, sound, and overall fun. Then came Worms: Armaggeddon. W:A was another great sequel in a world where sequels often leave us wanting more. With WWP, however, it seems that Team17 has dropped the ball. The real upgrade to WWP (which I directly imported from the Team17 shop) is multiplayer modules. Otherwise it seems that W:A has stretched the game engine to it's limits. In fact, some features that W:A boasted are completely left out of WWP. For the new Worms player, pick up a copy of W:A (you will find yourself searching for the original, which may not be as technically impressive, but still worth the price), and enjoy the single player games as well as the online support. Most of the modules added to WWP are already available (through player modifications) over the internet, and were well established parts of W:A long before WWP was even on the drawing board.A personal note to Team17: That's two games in the dump recently. You really boinked StuntGP, and now a pointless follow up to an exellent series. If this is the best you can do, I suggest leaving the pink fleshy world behind and drafting us another hit outside the Wormy World. After a brief experience on NBC's Weakest Link, the other Worms games have spoken, and to you WWP, You are the Weakest Link, Goodbye.

Many of you reviewers have obviously had trouble installing your game but my copy just had no trouble at all! I inserted the disk, it began to spin and that screen came up, i selected install and went thorough all that stuff yes put a shortcut blah blah blah and the game was fine! It ran just as good as any other game i have! But about the actual game, it is incredible. You can crete computer controlled teams such as mine which i named Punching Bags and wage wars against them with your own made teams. Overall its a great game for PC but dont buy i on GBA. Not that its bad on GBA but i still need to get my own copy!Hahahahahaha. |
