5.0 out of 5 stars great doll fix up book
This book was excellent for fixing up old dolls found in attics
and at flea markerts. It was not too complicated for basic beginners but the easy to follow steps really made a difference
in the dolls appearance and value. It is not meant to take the
place of a professional doll restoration which takes years of
practice and special materials. It is for...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it.
This book was not worth the money. It's 96 pages of mostly pictures. Pictures are good in a how-to book but the first third of the book is not about instructions, just pictures of some of her dolls. The rest of the book has really, really simplified basic instructions. Maybe if you have never even thought of making over a doll, you might find some useful info here, but...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it., January 30, 2002

This review is from: From Worn to Wonderful: A Step-By-Step Guide to Fashion Doll Restoration (Paperback)
This book was not worth the money. It's 96 pages of mostly pictures. Pictures are good in a how-to book but the first third of the book is not about instructions, just pictures of some of her dolls. The rest of the book has really, really simplified basic instructions. Maybe if you have never even thought of making over a doll, you might find some useful info here, but I recommend reading something with a bit more detail. For example, to pop off a doll's head (something I've never tried) she says to either pull it off or soak it in boiling water and then pull it off. Sounds rather risky to me. I've read better instructions just surfing the internet. (Jim Faraone's books are good and there's even better info in "Barbie Bazaar" magazine.) And her instructions for making jewelry are to 1) get some beads (nothing on size or type of bead), 2) make a knot, 3) thread the needle, 4) string the beads, and 5) tie the ends together. Nothing about clasps or how the heck you would get it around the doll's neck if you were making a choker. So I would not recommend this book to anybody.

2.0 out of 5 stars somewhat disappointed, January 1, 2002

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: From Worn to Wonderful: A Step-By-Step Guide to Fashion Doll Restoration (Paperback)
There are a few helpful hints in this book, but I was expecting something more in depth with more tips on repainting and such details. The directions are very simple and most of these tips are just plain common sense. It will stay in my reference library, but I don't highly recommend it for someone seriously wanted detailed information on restoring dolls.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Total Waste!, March 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: From Worn to Wonderful: A Step-By-Step Guide to Fashion Doll Restoration (Paperback)
I found this book to be a total waste of time. A good portion of it is pictures of her dolls, which are not by any means noteworthy examples. The instructions she gives are so rudimentary as to be worthless. There are no good "how-to" photos accompanying the text. But what disturbs me the most is that the instructions she gives for removing green ear can severely damage the face paint on vintage Barbies. All in all, a total waste of time and money.

This review is from: From Worn to Wonderful: A Step-By-Step Guide to Fashion Doll Restoration (Paperback)
I have found "From Worn to Wonderful" an excellent source of restoration information. I had no clue on what to do before I read this book. This book provided helpful hints for the beginner.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, August 2, 2010
This review is from: From Worn to Wonderful: A Step-By-Step Guide to Fashion Doll Restoration (Paperback)
This book is not repair-specific enough. It is too generalized. It does not show how to actually do repairs, re-roots, or repaints. It only has pictures showing very generalized info that is already known to many. There were no how-to pictures on limb replacement, no pictures of how-to repaint. This book was not what I expected and I am disappointed. It had a couple of helpful hints in it but I do not think this item is worth the price I paid b/c info was too general.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed!, November 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: From Worn to Wonderful: A Step-By-Step Guide to Fashion Doll Restoration (Paperback)
This is a very helpful little guide for getting started with restoring your old childhood favorites. Since my old dolls and toys have been stuffed into cardboard boxes for almost 20 years, this informative book showed me where to begin. It's easy to follow with both practical and creative ideas. A wonderful hobby for those who are children at heart!
