Rebecca's new Worship God CD is the best worship album by one artist that I've ever heard. While sticking to the original melodies for the familiar songs and not doing anything too outrageous with the new ones, this album has a depth and power that you don't normally hear.

I could get into this album much more had it not come at a time when modern praise & worship albums are more of a trend rather than an artist's true desire. Discs by Michael W. Smith, Phillips, Craig and Dean, The Martins, and Third Day have already made their way onto the shelves of an already overly crowded genre. On top of all these artists, The Katinas and Point of...

Rebecca's new Worship God CD is the best worship album by one artist that I've ever heard. While sticking to the original melodies for the familiar songs and not doing anything too outrageous with the new ones, this album has a depth and power that you don't normally hear.

"Let My Words Be Few" is a great start to this album. Not too slow, not too heavy, it's a wonderful introduction to entering a time of worship with God. The only complaint I have about this song is Rebecca's signature "whine" at the ends of certain words. A lot of people are bothered by this, but have no fear, this is the only song where it really sticks out.

"Song of Love" is my favorite song on the album. Rebecca's voice has matured so much since her release of "God", and on this cut, you can *tell*. I was thrilled with the singability of this one, considering that it's brand new. I love the chorus. "The heavens declare You are God / And the mountains rejoice..."

I hadn't heard "Breathe" before I bought this album, and I assumed it was a brand new song. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that it was a marvelous version of the song "This Is the Air I Breathe". It's the best version I've heard of this beautiful worship song so far.

"God of Wonders" doesn't have anything special in it, but if you love the song, here's a remake. I was surprised that they decided to re-do such a recent song, and I still like the original version better.

"Lamb of God" has pumping, powerful sound and lyrics straight out the Bible. I had the opportunity to sing this with a huge audience at one of Rebecca's concerts. Excellent.

"Above All" isn't my favorite worship song, but I really like Rebecca's treatment of it. She speeds it up a tad, which helps.

"Better is One Day" -- see my comments for "Above All". Same thing.

"Quiet You" is wonderful. An original song, the words also come directly from Scripture. Almost sounds like an edgy rock ballad.

"More Than the Watchmen" is milder than the rest of the songs on the album, and it's very pretty. I like the harmony on the title phrase.

I didn't know you could put "It Is Well" to a solid beat, but Rebecca has done it! If you're tired of super-slow church hymns, give this one a listen.

"You" is also milder, and the lyrics are a personal prayer from Rebecca to God. Very pretty.

More than anything, this is a CD you can play and forget about who is singing and focus on God. Rebecca's sold-out heart comes shining through, and it is a joy to listen to her worship her Savior. I am inspired to worship whenever I listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars It IS Revolutionary...She Does It Again!!!, March 11, 2002

I have wanted to post my review of RSJ's "Worship GOD" for quite some time on here, and after reading the 3-star review given to this album, I am REALLY eager to post my review. The saying of this album not being revolutionary is far from the truth.

MY REVIEW:
Rebecca St. James is back...and better than ever. With her sixth studio release, Worship God, she decided to in fact do a worship album. It is no surprise. I knew eventually RSJ would release another worship album, because that is how she got her start 10 years ago with her indie release, Refresh My Heart. Don't believe the misconception you hear a lot about this album being 'another worship album'. It's not. Yeah, not all of it is original, but on most of those non-original songs, RSJ breathes new life to those usually slower tunes such as "Let My Words Be Few", the album's first single "Breathe", "Above All", and the classic hymn "It Is Well With My Soul" (which on the track listing is actually "It Is Well"). She also changes the sound to "God Of Wonders" with some awesome guitar work, and "Better Is One Day" with a bit of an edgier side to it. Perhaps the highlights on the album are in fact the original tunes. The amazing "Song Of Love", which is my personal favorite from the album, is screaming 'soon-to-be worship classic'. It is a medium tempo song that shows nature's and our love for God. The chorus sums it up: The heavens declare you are God / And the mountains rejoice / The ocean's cry "Alleluia" / As we worship You, Lord / For this is our song of Love. "Lamb Of God" is another original song that gives a pop/rock feel like maybe no other song here. The synthesizers on this song rock, as do the amazing lyrics. The next original is "Quiet You With My Love", a song taken from Zephaniah 3:17. It is a song from God's perspective to us telling us to rest and He will quiet us and take care of us. This is probably the rockiest edged song on the album, bringing out the much rockier side of RSJ. The final original is "You", a pressing love song to God that showcases Rebecca's talent to soar on any song; slow, medium, or fast. It is the slowest song on the album and it is by far one of the best RSJ has ever done. The lyrics are simple, but that's what the song is. A simple love song to our Creator. Their is also a song that is not new and not really that well-known of a worship song on this record. It is "More Than The Watchmen", a song comparing us to the watchmen of Bible times waiting for morning, and our souls waiting for God. This is also a new sound for RSJ on this song, and she is successful with it. There is also a hidden track that a lot of people will remember from RSJ's Pray album, "Omega". This version, however, is different. It is a rock remix that brings the house down. A great way to end the album. Rebecca decided to continue on with producer Matt Bronleewe on this project, and it's a great thing she did. Rebecca St. James soars on Worship God. This is NOT just another worship album. It is one that gives new life to some well-known classics and gives some soon-to-be classic fresh, new tunes. Above anyhing else, it brings you into deep worship, which is what really matters. Not only does this album bring amazing presence of God and want to worship, but it showcases that stellar music as well. Another thing that is great about it, Rebecca ties in the pop/adult contemporary sound along with the rock sound. So there is something for everyone here. This is a very successful worship project that will forever be a classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!!!!!, March 4, 2002
This review is from: Worship God (Audio CD)
This latest work of Rebecca is her best in my opinion. Every song on the CD is not only produced together wonderfully by Matt Brownlee, but it is matched with every bit of quality by Rebecca St. James. She is evolving into one of the great Christian artists of all time. What can't you say about her songs? They are wonderfully written, Christ centered lyrics that are outstanding! My favorite song on the CD is "Quiet you with my love". That really is not counting the other 12 songs on here! To be honest, all of them are excellent. It's just that "Quiet you with my love" holds a special meaning to me. I'm sure everyone will have their own "Personal" favorite with this one! Thanks Rebecca and Matt for your outstanding work! This CD should be in everyone's collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great worship songs, March 3, 2002

...The CD opens with the Phillips, Craig and Dean favorite "Let My Words Be Few" - I love what Rebecca does with this song! Fans of worship songs will also recognize "Breathe" from Michael W. Smith's worship album, and "God of Wonders" from City on a Hill (see my other reviews to read my review of both these albums). Paul Baloche's "Above All" and the favorite "Better is One Day" are very well-done. Note: "Above All" was NOT written by Michael W Smith - I actually like Paul Baloche's version better, but the song gained popularily after MWS's Worship album came out.

Then Rebecca shows some of her songwriting talent with several songs on this album. "Song of Love" and "Lamb of God" are wonderful, and I love her version of "It is Well with My Soul". Anyone who likes Rebecca St James' music should buy this CD, and even if you haven't tried her other albums yet, get this one! It's a great worship album that won't disappoint you!

Also, you might want to check out Rebecca's rendition of "Love Broke Through" on a Keith Green tribute album of the same name, which was released in early 2002, 20 years after Keith Green's death. This album is a compilation of other artist's renderings of some of Keith Green's most well-loved songs.

Rebecca does it again with 'Worship God!' This is possibly even better than my favorite album of all time, 'Transform' which is also by Rebecca. I love all the songs on this album, but my personal favorites would have to be 'Lamb of God,' 'Quiet You With My Love,' 'More Than the Watchmen,' and 'It is Well.' Do youself a major favor and go buy this CD right away!!

I have been following Rebecca's career since her self titled CD was released in 1994. I have to say that she gets better with each new release. Each CD allows you to get deeper into who Rebecca really is. Worship God gives us all just a taste on how much Rebecca loves Christ. She wants us to experience worship with her and this CD allows us to do just that. I cannot wait to see what else lies in the future of her ministry.

When I first saw the play list, I was worried that it would sound like recent praise and worship albums. 'Breathe' and 'Above All' were on Michael W Smith's new album, but Rebecca St. James' versions are much more energetic.(Not to take anything away from Smitty) This is an awesome praise and worship album that really compells you to praise God and all His glory. Rebecca St. James' passion and love for God really comes through in 'Quiet You With My Love', the best song on the album (my opinion). A must own for Rebecca St James fans and all other Jesus freaks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rebecca scores another winner, June 28, 2002

This review is from: Worship God (Audio CD)
Worship God is more than your typical worship album. By offering up her own versions of well-known and not-so-well-known worship songs, as well as adding in a number of original songs to the mix, Rebecca has given listeners a worthwhile outlet to praise God. The CD's best songs are actually the brand new ones. The beautiful "Song Of Love" sounds heaven-sent, while "Quiet You With My Love" and "Lamb Of God" pulsate with energy. "It Is Well", a remake of the famous hymn, is memorably and powerfully unique. Also, look for a bonus track at the end of the CD, a remix of an old RSJ song, "Omega".
