Another fantastic effort which demonstrates JB's passion!!!,
By
This review is from: Worship Project (Audio CD)
Any fan of JB has seen how passionate he is about his music. This project is no different!!!!!!
8 of the 12 tracks are JB originals. Although 1 of the originals is JB's remake of the gospel great and crowd favorite "Falling In love With Jesus" that was first released as part of Kirk Whalum's Gospel According to Jazz, Chapter 2. If you are as nuts as I am about Jonathan Butler's music, then you will love each of these 8 originals. The other 4 covers are old established classics like Lord, I Lift Your Name On High and No Higher Calling. Be warned, if you think this CD will have all the slick production of JB's earlier efforts, then this isn't that kind of project. Don't mistake me, the CD has high quality audio. This is worship music project! When I heard this the first time, it was like I was transported back (15 yrs ago or more) listening to The Second Chapter of Acts with Michael Ward. For the record, my two most favorite cuts are When We Pray (Track 8) and Lord, I'm Ready (Track 11). Get the CD and Post your reviews so I know which ones are your favorites. I pray that this CD is JB's biggest release ever.

This review is from: Worship Project (Audio CD)
The Worship project is OUTSTANDING! Jonathan Butler's voice is superb and his choice of music definitely conveys a spirit of praise and worship. I listen to this CD daily before I go to work to put me in the right spirit and on my way home to erase all that is negative.

I have been a fan of J. Butler for many years. This has got to be his best work yet. I have seen him in concert 3 times and comb the newspaper to find out when he is coming to town. The songs are excellent and his voice is amazing. Some of the songs brought tears to my eyes. It is going to be my christmas giveaway gift this year.

best worship music renditions ever heard!!!,
By
This review is from: Worship Project (Audio CD)
Having been in church music ministry most of my adult life, I can say this is the best worship music renditions I have ever heard and, honey, I've listened and participated in tons of worship music and events! "The Worship Project" brings me personally to my knees before the LORD, not only in my heart and mind but in my spirit. The passion, thrust, and focus of giving worth to my Saviour, the LORD Jesus Christ led by JB 'et al' has moved me greatly and has caused me to get down to business with the LORD more than ever before. This is the very first CD/album I have ever NOT played at least once a day and, many days, I play it at work, in the car, at home, and even when I do my aerobic walking in the early morning. JB has allowed me to worship the LORD with him in a very unique way with lyrics complimented by a variety of musical rhythms & tempos that enhance each other from song to song. Even tho' jazz is my favorite, from beginning to end, I feel like I've been ushered into a journey of worshipping the LORD right where I am! Thank you...and the LORD bless you for putting this together, JB 'et al' !!!

Many years ago I was listening to a live radio broadcast of Jonathan Butler singing "True love never fails." As the song progressed, he began to sing extemporaneously turning the song into a sung sermon, leaving me in no doubt that he was a true believer.
Now many years and many albums later, Jonathan has released "the worship project" and surprise surprise...it's on the MARANATHA label who have led the revolution in contemporary worship music for the past 30 years. As with anything Mr Butler does, the playing and the singing is exemplary. Eight of the twelve tracks are written by him and although not classics (yet) they fit very well into the stylistic niche he has carved for himself as a blend of Earl Klugh/ George Benson/ Al Jarreau with that wonderful South African rhythmic sensibility. I'm listening to it for the first time through and the four covers that he does, Ruiz's "You're worthy of my praise", Founds' "Lord,I lift Your name on high", Tommy Walker's "That's why we praise Him" and Lenny Leblanc's "No higher Calling" are all worthy versions - respectful, yet fresh in interpretation. From the simple praise of "He is the Lord" and "Falling in love with Jesus" to the tender worship of "Lord, I'm ready" and "You are so beautiful" with the contemporary flavored "It's already there", this is an album to savor and enjoy. It's also a worship experience tailor-made for a personal retreat. Thank-you! Jonathan...it was a long time coming but well-worth the wait!

This album is almost pure praise and worship with maybe two "inspirational" songs. The album is very consistent. The instrumentation is soulfully rhythmic, meditative and soothing. A must-have. Jonathan's vocals and background singers are great.
