Another awesome book in this series by Herron. This is one of those series that it helps if you read them in order even though the books could be stand alone in my opinion they are much better read as the series and in order so everything fits and the relationships make sense. Now having said that, this book was great. I loved the suspense because I was unable to guess who the killer was and it is great when an author keeps you guessing until the end. I also loved how old characters played roles in this book and how it is now set up for Amelia's story which I have been waiting for for a long time. Highly recommended.

The overall plot and plot twists were good, but there were details that weren't clear or didn't make sense. For instance, someone is captured and tortured, probably having broken ribs, yet he isn't treated but goes to help in a manhunt. Too much of the book was unbelievable.

I loved this book and all the other Slaughter Creek Novels. I love anything that Rita Herron writes. I also preorder them when they come out on Amazon and go back to check her books to make sure I haven't missed any of them! I always buy her books!

This is the second book in a series, and I hoped it would be better than the first. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The premise is interesting -- similar to the 2007 action/thriller movie Hitman about an evil group of fanatics who create soldiers/assassins from children. But the book is a jumble of unrealistic events involving really stupid, stereotypical characters in a plot that lacks anything that resembles development. I hate to be unkind to the author, but there are better mystery/romance novels to spend your money on . . . maybe something by Laura Griffin or a really terrific writer, Nora Roberts. If Amazon had a hand in editing this disaster, then shame on you! And the really bad news is that the ultimate bad guy, the Commander, will probably return in a sequel . . . because his body was identified by the ring he was wearing. And everyone except the police, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the author knows that someone who has just escaped from prison doesn't escape wearing his jewelry.

OK, so this is the third book in the Slaughter Creek series and my least favorite, even though I really, really liked it. I would have given it 5 stars if Liz hadn't pulled a TSTL twice. I can understand an author wanting to have their heroine to seem strong but not stupid. Liz should have called Rafe as back-up but she was a little to stubborn and got her rear-end taken by a killer. Rafe came in and saved her only to have the same thing happen the next day with a different killer. Again she knew she should call Rafe and didn't. That cost this book a star.
I did love Rafe and Jake and Nick. I liked that you had a choice of possible bad guys: Six, Castor, Truitt, Roper and Harlon. As well as our favorite villain, Arthur Blackwood. And I have to say that even though Six was crazy I could certainly understand why he killed those nurses.
I'm going to read Dying for Love now, Amelia's story, but this one is a little iffy for me. She was whacked during all the other books so I'm not so sure she can ever be better.

I got this book and the audio version free with my KindleUnlimited.
