5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reads - both are worth a thousand words!
I just finished reading both "The Someday List" and "Worth a thousand words" and they were both enlightening! I loved the characters and how Ms. Adams speaks to the reader in the situations that a character faces. She included some great advice for marriages, for those who want to give their lives to the Lord and those who were true believers in what God can and will do...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Reading
I enjoy reading Stacy Adams books. This one may not have been geared toward me though??? Seems like a lot of the book may have been edited or something. The plot got real deep and then kinda ended (my opinion). I was suprised at the abrupt ending after so much detail.

I will still buy her books . . I will keep this in my library. I may just have to...

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a Thousand Kudos!, August 24, 2009
This review is from: Worth a Thousand Words: A Novel (Jubilant Soul) (Paperback)
Indigo Burns, a twenty-three year old recent college graduate, is on top of the world with a very bright future ahead of her! Life is wonderful for Indigo - she has a summer internship and graduate school beginning in the fall. However, a surprise marriage proposal from her boyfriend, Brian, may change all of Indigo's future plans. After the proposal, a fast downward spiral begins for both Indigo and Brian. Her plans to become a world class photographer and graduate student now hang in the balance.

Indigo is forced to make new decisions and find answers - marriage or career? Why the rush to get married? Indigo, however, is not the only one struggling to find answers. Her fiancé, Brian, is battling past demons that could tear the relationship apart. With the help of their families and their faith in God, both Indigo and Brian will try to make decisions that are right for them individually and as a couple. In the process, there will be huge price to pay.

It is interesting that "Indigo" (blue) is the color of a deep midnight sky. The color and word is often synonymous with wisdom and spiritual realization - similar to the character and her journey. Regardless of the best made plans - they are never designed to work out perfectly - nothing in life is easy. Author Stacy Hawkins Adams has written a top notch love story with just enough twists and turns to keep the reader turning each page to find out what the next secret or surprise will be. Add this one to your library!

4.0 out of 5 stars KNOW YOUR OWN MIND..., July 23, 2009
This review is from: Worth a Thousand Words: A Novel (Jubilant Soul) (Paperback)
Indigo Burns has been accepted into a prestigious graduate program for photography. Her life's dream has always been to become a major photographer and her chance is before her. The question is will other things get in her way. Will the fact that her boyfriend, Brian, who has proposed marriage, get in the way of her dreams? Or will family drama or other personal hazards stymie her dreams? Worth a Thousand Words by Stacy Hawkins Adams addresses these issues and others.

Indigo is unsure how to deal with Brian's desire to marry immediately. She really loves him and would love to be his wife. However, she would like to get her graduate degree before getting married. What she does not know is that Brian has his reasons and his reasons could be earth-shattering for the couple. Indigo is also trying to deal with a potential health hazard that could end her career before it even starts and her family's medical and personal drama is also time-consumptive.

Ms. Hawkins-Adams does a good job of revealing the problems that arise in Indigo's life and she does it in an entertaining, spiritual, yet non-preachy way. Worth a Thousand Words is the perfect book for lazy summer days and is recommended for those who love Christian and mainstream fiction.

I loved the characters and how Ms. Adams speaks to the reader in the situations that a character faces. She included some great advice for marriages, for those who want to give their lives to the Lord and those who were true believers in what God can and will do if they have faith. Indigo truly listened to what God was putting on her heart, and followed it. She dealt with a lot over the summer but grew from it immensely. Thank you so much for such inspirational reads and I am waiting anxiously for the next one in the "Jubilant Soul" series! Keep up the good work and may God continue to bless you!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Blessing, May 7, 2011

I found this book while on vacation. I was looking for something to read to take me away from my own world. Once I started reading the book I could not put it down. (Well I had to put it down on the plane for landing and then left it is the back pocket of the seat) So I ordered another copy. I finished the book in 3 days. I normally take 3 months to read a book. It was easy reading and it kept my attention from beginning to end. The end of the book leaving you wanting more. I later found out this was book two in the series. I could not wait to read the others.

This is the second book in the "Jubilant Soul" series as I did not read the first one I had to start from scratch and learn the characters in this book.

This book is about Indigo, at her graduation party, her long-term boyfriend, who is fixing to join the navy, asks her to marry him. She is in love with him, but she wants to go to graduate school in New York.

She is in her hometown for the summer, working for the local newspaper. She has some health problems, so she lost her job on the paper, then her aunt, "who owns a beauty shop", had a stroke, and she has to spend the summer running the business end of her aunt's salon. She is trying to decide what to do about her fiancee, her schooling, and her career. Meanwhile her fiancee is dealing with his own secrets. What will she decide? Will she go on to school or will she get married? You must read the book to find all the answers.

Adams did a pretty good job of telling this story but there was something about it that needed something else.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Word of God, July 14, 2010

In the second book in the Jubilant Soul Series readers meet now 22-year-old Indigo Burns. She is a recent college graduate with plans for graduate school in NYC while interning at the Herald newspaper in her hometown of Jubilant, TX. While feeling the effects of success, Indigo's life literally changes after accepting her long time boyfriend, Brian's, proposal. Is she really ready to be a wife?

Hesitant about marriage, Indigo was excited about working at the paper and the experience she would gain. Unfortunately, the Burns' family is dealt a serious blow as Melba, the wise and witty aunt, suffers a stroke. If that weren't difficult enough, Indigo is having issues at work. And younger sister, Yasmin, the model of the family, is experiencing her own growing pains. Can they continue to wait on the Lord to help them heal as a family?

I am absolutely enjoying this series. Stacy Hawkins Adams has written a series with a loving, god-fearing family that has real life issues. I really love the characters, the friendships, the love and the connection that the family has with one another. I like how the title, WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS, ties into the title and would strongly suggest this series to all.

Worth A Thousand Words by Stacy Hawkins Adams is the story of a questionable relationship between Indigo Burns and her fiance Brian. From the beginning Indigo is unsure about her engagement to Brian because her real dream is to complete graduate school and become a successful photographer before she gets married. As Indigo develops challenges which threaten her career in photography, she must examine and prioritize what is really important to her. As Brian pressures her to marry him, she becomes increasingly doubtful about the sincerity of their relationship. Finally, a devastating secret is revealed which turns both of their worlds upside down, and makes the answer to whether or not she should marry Brian, extremely clear. I enjoyed the twists and turns of Stacy Hawkins Adams' delightful storytelling.

Indigo Burns has aspirations of becoming a professional photographer. She is doing an internship as a photographer in her hometown and after college she will be attending graduate school in New York. Marriage is not in her plans, until her boyfriend proposes to her during her a family gathering. Although she truly loves him, she reluctantly accepts his proposal, but she doesn't want to give up her dream and doesn't know how to tell him. Shortly thereafter, Indigo is diagnosed with a medical illness that may change the course of her plans. Will she let go and let God carry her through her storm or will she give up her dreams to please someone else?

Brian Harper's ambition is to become a Navy pilot and after his completion in officer school, he quickly wants to marry Indigo. While he is struggling with a secret, he wants Indigo to sacrifice her plans to be by his side. But to find peace within him, he knows he needs to ask God for guidance.

WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS is an inspirational read for today's challenges. The choices people make, whether good or bad, will affect them and the people in their lives. Another interesting point; when people sacrifice to please others, their needs are no longer important, and they lose themselves.

WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS is enlightening and insightful and I recommend it to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars More like 4.5 stars. Great spiritual content and believable conflict!, July 28, 2009
This review is from: Worth a Thousand Words: A Novel (Jubilant Soul) (Paperback)
This story was slow to start but packs a powerful message. It's hard to say specifics without providing spoilers in my review so I'm purposely avoiding some specifics.

Ms. Adams has an amazing ability to make the reader see a variety of perspectives without straying from Biblical truths. She doesn't always wrap things up in a tidy manner. I love that. I also love that every book Ms. Adams writes gets me thinking about people I know or situations I am familiar with and may even be struggling with myself. Her stories are solid and emotionally deep without being manipulative of the reader's feelings. They confront important decisions that young people need to make and challenge the reader to look at all angles.

Slowly (and throughout this story) my heart really connected with the characters and the lessons they learned. I loved the realistic problems each character faced. The conflict is believable and the drama is there but doesn't feel forced. Best of all, I enjoyed that this story was not predictable in any way. Each new issue that emerged surprised me. That's great plotting! I loved this story and the truths tucked within its pages. I highly recommend it.
