Good sturdy tank. Comes empty, but vacuum purged, so it'll save you $5 when filling it for the first time at U-Haul.
The tank weights ~36 pounds when full (4.5 gal of propane).
The cost of refill is $21.

At the price I paid, about $29 including shipping, this was a good deal. After I bought it, Sam's had it for $26. However with the sales tax, it was just about a $1 less than what I paid. The person that filled the tank for me said it was a good tank. I bought it to be able to use the 20 lb. tank instead of the small canister propane tank on my Coleman grill, since the small ones did not last very long. The only negative thing I can say was that there where some small dents in the tank but I am assuming this occurred during shipping. I guess I could return it, but I didn't feel it was worth the hassle. Also, the tank came "pre-purged" so that it was ready to fill. The grill works even better now with the larger tank. If you use your grill a lot, this is the way to go. You can use it to refill, or use it to exchange for a full tank at the stores that have tank exchanges. To use the 20 lb. tank you will need the hose adapter that sells on Amazon for about $25 (Coleman), or most Lowes or Home Depo. Very easy to do.

Amazon is a great place for shopping with free shipping. BUT ...only for small items. Anything that is heavy, it seems that there are a lot of consistent negative customer reviews about how poorly Amazon pack and ship the item (see more comment on Amazon packing below). So, during promo for Thanks Giving 2011, Lowes has the exact same cylinder for $27 so I go ahead and get it. But this is not the reason I rate this item a 5 star. Here are the real reasons:

1. From inspection, material and workmanship appears to be of good quality. The on/off valve appears to be in good shape.
2. *** It has a clear mark of 16.6 lbs on the top. This means, when it is empty, it weighs 16.6 lbs (more on this in a moment) ***
3. It comes "purged", so it is ready to be filled with propane
4. I take it to another local store for propane refill (ACE hardware in my case) and have it filled up with 20 lbs of propane for something like $20 and some small changes (tax included)
I know for fact that I have a full 20 lbs as they weighed it during the whole filling process. So, it now weighs at 36.6 lbs
The main advantage of having my own cylinder is obvious, I know I will get a full 20 lbs every time when I have it refilled as oppose to those exchange propane tank at local grocery store.
Not only that they fill it for just 15-16 lbs for a price of 20lbs, they also charge exchange fee !!!
5. Knowing the weight above, it saves me another $20-$30 from buying those useless propane indicator gauge or magnet. To know how much propane I have left, I can use my bathroom scale.

I take it home and hook it up with my Camp Chef dual burners and all works fine. As I am not a serious BBQ or outdoor cooking guy (I get this more for as needed.

This is a U.S.-made tank, solidly built. Powder-coated. What I expected. Holds fuel until you want it to release fuel. Pretty simple. 4 stars because I cannot commit to "loving" a propane cylinder. Do not expect a discount because it is "pre-purged." Means nothing to refillers who will charge the same for a tank with 6# remaining in it as they will an empty tank, Probably because the morons who work at most places cannot subtract filled weight from tare and charge accordingly. Once again the consumer gets forked in the grill.

Tank arrived in timely manner in good shape, no damage. If you're looking to buy a 20 pound tank, this is the one for you. If you have a propane filling station where you live, this is the cheaper way to go rather than going to those exchange stations. Highly recommend...buy one, and own it!

I'm new to the propane crowd, and I'm getting ready for "preparedness". Earthquakes, & such. Propane rather than camp stove gas seemed better. So I ordered 2 of these for my Camp Chef I bought here. These are tight well made tanks. Filling cost $38 for both at a U-Haul place. A nice man there told me to keep these and refill them rather than exchange them for the typical ones at the big-box stores. He said the exchange system will have tanks of dubious quality and life expectancy. As well as "short fills". And he said these I bought were very good tanks. Well, what do I know? He's sure to know something about this that I don't. And a dollar a pound seemes to be a good price. These will be stored for some time for use in any event...

I ordered this for use with my outdoor burner. I didn't want to get locked into using an exchange service, like Blue Rhino, whose tanks generally can't be refilled. It's pretty much what you'd expect: a brand new, sturdy-looking propane cylinder. I took it to my local U-Haul and got it filled with a full 20 pounds of propane for less than an exchange costs -- and those are only filled to 16 pounds these days!
