The Revelation of John made easier to understand,
By A Customer
This review is from: Worthy is the Lamb (Hardcover)
This is an older little known "jewel" of a book. It is very well written and composed for the average person seeking to understand all the "mystery" of the book of Revelation. With all the present day abuse and mis-use of this important book, it is soothing to finally read a book that presents, in a very logical and unbiased manner, what God intended for us to understand. Ray removes all the "end-time mystery" and the extreme views being presented today and takes us back to an understandably wonderful message. What did God intend for the first century Christians, the first recipients, to understand? If the message doesn't help them, it can't be the correct message. Revelation doesn't have to be scarey or frightening. It's message is one of love and hope. It will take some effort to get through the book. It's not presented as a storybook. It is presented in a logical orderly study fashion that with time, the scriptures, a note pad and prayer, the simplicity of the message can be realized. This is the only book I am aware of of this caliber. The final message, "God 1: Satan 0", Game Over!

Must read for for a realistic approach to Revelation,
By David McCollum (North Little Rock, Arkansas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Worthy Is the Lamb (Paperback)
Dr. Ray Summers was one of the most respected experts and scholars on the Biblical book of Revelation and a wonderful and challenging teacher. His book takes the strange book of Revelation and adds historical context to make understanding easier for the average reader. Much of the understanding of the book relates to the historical context the Jews faced in Roman times and the type of literature the book is. Dr. Summers examines many of the popular views on Revelation, breaks them down to the pros and cons and gives the pluses and minuses of each. The curious will find this fascinating and a whole new concept of the book opened to him. He will find it is not a scary book with strange symbols about the end of time but a book of hope that can apply to Christians everywhere in times of persecution. The apostle John is writing as a political prisoner and he's using a lot of coded language only Jews could fully understand. Dr. Summers unlocks a lot of the mystery and the code and you know what? We find things are not so mysterious after all if you can grasp the historical contest and type of literature.

The Definitive book on Revelation,
By
This review is from: Worthy Is the Lamb (Paperback)
With the publication of Hal Lindsey's "The Late Great Planet Earth", everyone jumped on his bandwagon and spun off on the most useless fantasy and poor biblical scholarship on Revelation and have confused many. This book presents Revelation in the context as the people it was written to (the seven churches of Asia). If your understanding of Revelation would mean nothing to Christians in the first century then it is wrong. Get this book and get started with serious study of Revelation. It is simpler than you think.

Yes! The definitive book on Revelation,
By
This review is from: Worthy Is the Lamb (Paperback)
Having read "The Late Great Planet Earth" and "The Eternal Kingdom", I came away believing that truth-seekers would never find the truth about the Revelation. This book gives us the truth, as disappointing as it may be to those who enjoy fantasy-mystery stories. The author spends the first half of the book prodding us to open our minds to the fact that John wrote the Revelation to encourage Christians who were already suffering at the hands of the Roman Empire. They needed to know that God was still in control. Revelation provided them the information they needed, in apocalyptic code. The rest of the book walks through the Revelation, and decodes the apocalyptic symbols as they would be understood by first century Christians. It all makes complete sense.

Worthy Is The Lamb,

This is the best interpretation on the market. Dr. Ray Summers, author of this book, was a recognised Greek scholar and wrote a textbook on Greek used is numerous universities and theological graduate schools. He, unlike others, had the tools required for an accurate and historical interpretation of this book.
It makes sense and is true to the rest of the Bible. Jerold R. McBride

This book is the best Historical view of Revelations that I have read or studied. It's insights crumble many fundamental, easily taught, futuristic precepts. The truth in this book is overwhelming and should be read by every fundamental Christian that has an open mind. Ray Summers did a great work, so get it before it runs out.

This review is from: Worthy Is the Lamb (Paperback)
Worthy is the Lamb is a reprint of a very old book which I first read in the 1950's. It is an academic study of the book of Revelation and is not considered "light reading", but should be read by all who believe the Bible is the Word of God, and who believe Jesus is returning to this earth just as He left this earth. Non-believers would gain insight into this subject, as well.

This is the most reasonable and well thought out comprehensive commentary on the Revelation of John that I have read. The entire 1st half of the book is devoted to understanding the type of apocalytic language used in Revelation as well as to understanding the historical background of Christians who first received the message of John in the late first century. Excellent study for the serious student of the New Testament. I purchased 2 copies of the book, one for our church library and the other for my personal library.

Very good commentary on Revelation, from the viewpoint of everything but the Final Judgment occurred in the first century A.D.

WARNING: A book which presents a view not supported by Scripture...,
By
This review is from: Worthy Is the Lamb (Paperback)
When one takes the time to actually read not just the Book of Revelation, but the prophecies given to Daniel, Ezekiel, Hosea, Joel, and other prophets, the preterist view makes absolutely no sense. You have to jump through far too many hoops to get to their conclusions. A plain, literal, proper (HONEST) reading of God's Word guided by the Holy Spirit will never lead someone down those silly rabbit trails.
I was shocked to learn that this book was so embraced by the Southern Baptist Convention -- a group I truly thought was reasonably well grounded in bible studies. No, this book is definitely to be avoided except possibly as a reference to heresy. This book by A.C. Gaebelein gives a much more grounded and bible based analysis of the Revelation. A must have for anyone serious about end-times study. The Revelation, an analysis and exposition of the last book of the Bible |
