5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Sophomore Book
I thought that Trisha Thomas' follow up to Venus' life was great and a good sophomore book. A lot of times we go through life and think that everything should be wrapped up in a neat little package and that Venus would live happily ever after with Airic but Ms. Thomas let us know that all things dont work like that and sometimes you have to make many stops on your way to...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Sophomore Book, June 1, 2004
I thought that Trisha Thomas' follow up to Venus' life was great and a good sophomore book. A lot of times we go through life and think that everything should be wrapped up in a neat little package and that Venus would live happily ever after with Airic but Ms. Thomas let us know that all things dont work like that and sometimes you have to make many stops on your way to find true happiness. I felt at then end of Nappily Ever After that she was going with Airic just because he was there and available and I am glad she came back with this book to show us that sometimes plans do change and sometimes we have to go a long way around to reach the goal that we are trying to attain. I was shocked at the end about one little scenario that I wanted to go one way but it went the other but I thought after a while that it did show a real depiction of REAL life and not fiction. I thought it was a great book. Keep up the good work Ms. Thomas!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY ENJOYABLE!!!, July 26, 2006
By
Ms. Thomas shows us all that she's gotten her groove back in this her third novel. A sequel to the equally enjoyable Nappily Ever After, this story follows the heroine from that novel--Venus Johnston. Venus is young and beautiful with a successful career. Her life plan is to become married and have children, and live an idyllic family life; but this novel finds her after The One Who Got Away--gorgeous doctor/boyfriend Clint---still thinking of him daily, but engaged to be married to boyfriend Airic; it would seem as though Venus's life is back on track...but then her career takes her on a project from Washington D.C. to the palm trees of L.A.....and just when Venus thinks she's gotten it all figured out, she meets a man who literally makes her gasp. And to add to the dilemma, it would appear as though the now separated Clint is also in L.A. When Venus and her family are confronted with a catastrophic illness, the responses from the men in her life present Venus with an epiphany; is it more important to be married, or is there truly such a thing as a love that makes your heart pound and your spirit soar?

Loved loved loved the book (and Jake), and I am anxiously awaiting the next in the series.....Nappily Married.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing But Another Page Turner, July 7, 2005
I read "Would I lie to you" in a couple of days, I couldn't but it down! When I first picked up the book I didn't realize it was part of a sequel, the first being "Nappily Ever After." After I read "Would I lie to you" I immediately went out and got "Roadrunner" and "Nappily Ever After." Trisha Thomas is my new favorite fiction author. If I read one more suck-it, do-me novel I think I am going to die. Trisha Thomas is obviously very intelligent and can communicate her ideas beautifully in a sophisticated way as to allow my imagiation to actually work. I don't need to be knocked over the head. Some of these writers need to understand less is more.

Thank you Trisha!

4.0 out of 5 stars Love, Life, and Lies, June 22, 2004

The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
Author Trisha Thomas brings back the popular heroine Venus Johnston in her much-anticipated sequel to Nappily Ever After. WOULD I LIE TO YOU continues Venus? story. She is moving on from her breakup with Clint and has been engaged to her new love, Airic, for two years. Ever the workaholics, the two have yet to set a wedding date. When Venus takes a job assignment in Los Angeles the couple is forced to decide if absence will truly make the heart grow fonder.

While in LA, Venus is privileged to work with Jake Parsons, a rapper turned fashion mogul, who also happens to be ten years her junior. Their attraction is undeniable and soon Venus finds herself questioning her decisions regarding love. To further complicate matters, a newly divorced Clint appears, and Venus is forced to look deep within herself to decide what she values most, that which she loves or that which is familiar and secure.

Trisha Thomas has written another entertaining novel. While the beginning of the story flowed well, the ending seemed a little rushed. However, the story as a whole is engaging and I found myself rushing through to find out what Venus? ultimate decision would be. I really enjoyed the fact that WOULD I LIE TO YOU had several subplots that tackled intense issues such as breast cancer. As always the characters were realistic and well developed. WOULD I LIE TO YOU is an excellent read that can be enjoyed by all.

Venus is the main character and she has just ended a long-term relationship with Clint. Although she supported him while he attended medical school, he wouldn't commit to marriage. This time she's close to marriage, engaged for two years to a successful businessman, Airic, a divorced father of two adult daughters. But she's plagued by a continuing dream of being left at the altar by Clint. Venus is all set to have what she's always wanted--the perfect job and a perfect marriage--until the job takes her to across the country and leads her heart into a different direction.

I had never read a book by this author, and I enjoyed the personality of the main character. She was aggressive, very professional and appeared to have everything together. This book taught me that sometimes even the best plans are well formulated but as many times the case, life throws a wrench in our plans and we have to deal with it. The book had great realistic drama and I felt myself being compassionate for the main character and the issue she had to deal with in her family. This was a quick read for me and I would recommend this book to a recent college graduate fresh in the working world. There are some great life lessons in this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars I read it in 1 day, April 22, 2004
I must say that I did not expect to like this book so much. I actually read it in less then 24 hours. I loved that Venus found true love after all. I hope that there is another book so I can find out if they live happily ever after.

4.0 out of 5 stars I was left fulfilled!, April 7, 2004
By A Customer
I enjoyed this book and was pleased to see Venus finally happy, under any circumstance. Over all the book left me very fulfilled and I am also pleased that Trisha kept Venus' strength and integrity throughout the book. I would have given it 5 out of 5 stars but I was a little disappointed about the lack of detail in the final chapters. Everything seemed very crammed at the end. But overall an excellent read!

5.0 out of 5 stars a hot book with a lot goin' on..., February 11, 2004
By A Customer
This is even better than Trisha's first book, Nappily Ever After, which is one of my favorites of all time. It's more about the life of Venus Johnston, a successful, daring sista whose still got problems like the rest of us.

Even though Venus has ther perfect fiance, they haven't set a date, and when the book starts, she's about to go to LA for a temporary business assignment. Her new business client is Jake Parsons, who's successful like P.Diddy but a lot hotter and a lot more of a gentleman. He's also 26, 10 years younger than Venus. Venus is committed to her fiance, Aeric, but she keeps thinking about Jake and when she has to deal with a crisis in her family, it's Jake, not Aeric, who's there for her.

There's a lot of love in this book and it works. It's a lot smarter than some of the books for black women that are out there, but it's even more entertaining. The ending is perfect, even if it's not what you were expecting. My girfreinds and I loved the last book by this author and we're glad to see this one's out there. I really recommend it--this is an author who doesn't let you down.

4.0 out of 5 stars good find, September 28, 2009
This review is from: Would I Lie to You?: A Novel (Paperback)
Tnis my first read by this author and I enjoyed it. A good book about choices and the sums of those choices. It's also a story about what happens to a family 'going thru'. An easy read and recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Would I Lie to You?, April 27, 2008
This review is from: Would I Lie to You?: A Novel (Paperback)
I enjoyed the continual story of Venus. I got caught up in her mother's illness and her emotional reactions. I was also very involved in her relationship with Jake. I pretty much figured that her and Airic were not going to stay together. I am always happy for a happy ending. I am looking forward to reading more from Trisha Thomas.
