Biography

A lot has happened to Hellogoodbye since the Huntington Beach, California-based act released their breakthrough album Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! back in 2006. Over the past four years the band have parted with their old record label, retooled their lineup, released a handful of EPs and performed everywhere from the Philippines to living rooms. All of these cumulative experiences ... Read more in Amazon's Hellogoodbye Store

Editorial Reviews

In 2001 Forrest Kline started installing shareware recording programs on his parents' pc (which had roughly the processing power of a present day DigiPet). In the following whirlwind that ensued (and prepare for quite the run-on sentence): the band played self booked tours; signed to Drive Thru Records; released a self titled EP (which went on to sell 400,000 copies, even after being available free for months); toured with All American Rejects, Panic At The Disco, Motion City Soundtrack and more; and finally released their debut full length, 'Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!' (which sold over 500,000 copies and over 1,000,000 'Here (In Your Arms)' singles).

Since then the band has been determined to remain self-made men. They furnished Forrest's home garage into a very productive recording studio, created and maintained an online merch store from a spare bedroom, kept touring relentlessly while peppering in ep releases to culminate to the release of their self-funded grand opus,
'Would It Kill You?'. Much of the record is about letting go, accepting and eventually celebrating the weirdness of life. Would it kill you to get married and live an awesome life together (no, clearly it s be awesome [Forrest got married June 25th])? Would it kil you to play a show with LL Cool J (no, it's probably be hilarious [Hellogoodye played with Ladies Love Cool James at the Coca Cola Fest)? Would it kill you to work hard and be nice? (that s what the band is trying to do).

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbiased review from a non-fanboy February 26, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
I actually heard a song (Coppertone) off this album while in an urban clothes retailer (it's amazing how some stores, commercials, and network television play better music now than radio and MTV). I was instantly hooked. Having no idea who the band was, I went home and checked it out. The more I sampled, the more I liked, and I ended up downloading the whole album just to hear more. That was probably the best musical decision I made in the past year.

Honestly, I don't know what "old" Hellogoodbye sounds like. The only song prior to "Would it Kill You" that I've heard was "Oh, it is love," so I knew this band was capable of producing very good music. Before I digress further and write a book I'm not being paid for, here's what you need to know about "Would it Kill You."

THE BOTTOM LINE TRUTHS:

The truth is, this album is not good, it's slap yo' mama, feel good, great! You can listen to it from start to finish without skipping a song. When was the last time something like that came around?

The truth is, it's still more indie than pop, so those of you that pride yourselves on being cutting edge will not be disappointed like you were when Panic! or Dashboard was being played on pop radio and MTV.

The truth is, this album will place Hellogoodbye in your top 5 bands list (granted we have the same taste).

The truth is, you should love, Thoughts give me the creeps, Coppertone, and When we first met. Those are standouts on the album, but again, the whole thing is good.

The truth is, the album is a perfect example of how a ukulele should be used in indie music. It's not forced into every song, a la Ingrid Michaelson...FAIL!

The truth is, you should have downloaded this by now. "Hurry up and buy!"

The end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Say goodbye to the ol' hellogoodbye November 20, 2010
Format:Audio CD
This cd is pretty good. It reminded me a lot of panic! at the disco pretty. odd. album but better. Each of the songs on Would it Kill You? is catchy and kind of just make you want to smile. They have changed a lot though since their self-titled cd back in 2004. Back then, they experimented more with electronic sounds that you can dance too. Now their music has slowed down a lot! It's good, but definitely acoustic guitar sounds than synth. So all in all it is a good cd that you should definitely pick up. And if you can catch these guys in concert, do it, because it definitely is entertaining to say the least.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect... Start to Finish. March 5, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is one of those rare albums I can listen to over and over again. Every single song is beautiful and I know I've been driving my husband crazy listening to it constantly, but it feels like it will be impossible to get tired of this. If you buy it you will not regret it. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars It would not kill me in fact January 1, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Wonderful album by a vastly under appreciated band. Mature, layered sound, a variety of stylistic approaches, and all under the non-mainstream pop umbrella. No profanity either which is also a big plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars When We First Met - hellogoodbye December 3, 2011

I saw the music video made with Meekakitty on YouTube and I knew I had to get the CD. SO worth the money really great songs and good deal buying here rather than on iTunes. You should check out the video if you haven't already:

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Pop Masterpiece July 17, 2011
By Archer
Format:Vinyl
"Would It Kill You?" represents Hellogoodbye's transition into the 21st century version of The Zombies. "The Thoughts That Give Me The Creeps" sounds like it could have came right off of The Z's 60's LPs, and songs like "I Never Can Relax" have a psychedelic hue that would have been unheard of coming from this band on their 2006 record. Make no mistake, "Would It Kill You?" is a fresh and inventive record. It is a daring separation from their 2006 effort, and arguably the most satisfying pop album to be released in this new decade. Few bands evolved as much as Hellogoodbye in the last five years. It will be exciting to see if Hellogoodbye continues its foray into kaleidoscopic-pop, and if "Would It Kill You?" is any indication of that, the best is yet to come.
