This book is a gem. All spiritual practices have self love as a foundation. This book is a self-love manual especially in the often neglected area of recieving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Balance, hope, creativity, and depth., June 13, 2008

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Tales of a Wounded Healer (Paperback)
Tales of a Wounded Healer is a delightful read, whether for the first or fifth time. It offers balance in perspective, suggesting possibilities for self-help in some situations and for professional help in others. It also presents an intertwined view of the rational, behavioral, and emotional components of experiential healing in a realistic and provocative manner.

The book includes plenty of real-life stories that provide robust hope in some of life's most difficult experiences...without being either glib or making help seem beyond reach. Her periodic suggestions for application in the reader's life are sensitive and effective.

The author also demonstrates in these pages what she is particularly known for...lots of creativity. Whether she writes about her own life or the lives of others, she brings to this book a creative element that is characteristic of really good Gestalt work. And lastly, she offers a depth of wisdom that has the solid ring of truth that comes only from having trodden the road that is being described.

I've been a psychotherapist for 22 years and have only recently revived my interest in Gestalt therapy. I am finding this book to be a joy to read and a practical help in both my own life and my practice. Happy reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book changes lives for the better, June 13, 2008
This review is from: Tales of a Wounded Healer (Paperback)
"Tales of a Wounded Healer" by Mariah Fenton Gladdis,
This book is one of the most fantastic and realistically helpful books I have ever read. It is clearly wrtten, can be read in one or two sittings, and cherished again and again for two million sittings. Like me, if you are searching to bridge the gap beween Christian Universal truths and modern psychology, you too may find that the language and practice of Gestalt psychology, as exemplified in this book, helps you to be free of false guilt and thereby open up your heart, mind, and hands to others in a way that promises to fullfill your wildest dreams. It is my heartfelt hope that many people i.e. singles, couples, laymen, and professionals representing all walks of life, read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars unique approach, June 13, 2008
This review is from: Tales of a Wounded Healer (Paperback)
I have participated in Mariah's retreat weekends and have repeatedly seen tranformation of pain, anxiety, and heaviness into joy, freedom, and strength. She is a remarkable, gifted healer whose personal struggles have informed her unique approach to gestalt. I was delighted to read her book--the more people she can reach with her healing wisdom, the better. In the book, she shares her personal story and anecdotes from some of her clients. The results are concrete, accessible examples that serve as guideposts to living an emotionally healthy and rewarding life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transforming ALS into Victory, April 7, 2008
This review is from: Tales of a Wounded Healer (Paperback)
Ms. Gladis has written a remarkable book - make that a life-roadmap - for everyone to benefit from. Although "Tales of a Wounded Healer" offers useful, practical, and meaningful guidance for those who are troubled or have unresolved important issues in their lives, it will benefit everyone who reads it. Humans are complex beings - and we all can improve in our relationships with other - and with ourselves. The creative, yet practical, steps she takes in helping her clients (and the book's readers) heal are so eye-opening. They allow one's soul to take - perhaps for the first time - a deep, rewarding, refreshing, and healing breath of spiritual fresh air. I encourage everyone to read this remarkable book written by an even more remarkable person.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is filled with "AHA!" moments....., July 29, 2008
This review is from: Tales of a Wounded Healer (Paperback)
"I'm in the middle of reading Mariah's book--I'm on the chapter "What Do You Need?" (Answer: so much that I cannot even begin the list!) I've always known that my life was not what it should have been; years of self-help books, introspection, and professional counseling haven't shed as much light on the cause(s) as this one chapter in this very special book. Mariah has a way of very simply and effectively identifying the elemental building blocks of dysfunction so that they're crystal clear. I see so much of myself in here, and so much plain, logical information on what I need to do to achieve emotional health. Inspiring, and kind of overwhelming at the same time. She is truly remarkable.

This review is from: Tales of a Wounded Healer (Paperback)
Thank you for taking your time and energy to share with us your wisdom
and personal experience so eloquently expressed in your book.
As a Gestalt psychotherapist for over twenty five years I deeply appreciate your level of contact and communication with clients that stimulate their ability
to heal themselves. Your techniques are thrilling and need to be shared with many more practitioners in the field of mental health.
I admire your courage and ability to reveal intimate aspects of your
personal life in a effort to encourage acceptance of ourselves as human.
