Wounded is painful, heart-wrenching, absolutely enthralling book... Jasinda Wilder hit this one out of the park! ~ The Bookish Brunette

It was a beautiful, character-driven story about two scarred people finding love in the most unlikely of places and ultimately saving each other. This book is definitely going to make my list of favorites for 2013!~ Aestas Book Blog

This is a book that spans about 12 years. We first meet Rania when she is only 12, during the first war in Iraq. Rania does what she must to survive the horrors of a war that took both of her parents, as well as her uncle. We spend a lot of time getting to know her and we feel her pain and feel for her struggle. To keep from starving to death, Rania makes what to her is the ultimate sacrifice. A choice she has to live with, for many years to come.

And then we meet Hunter. An American soldier home on leave, about to head out to the second Iraqi war. His best friend, Derek is also introduced to us. They have known each other since they were quite young and were even in the same Marine Corps unit. Hunter has problems of his own before he returns, and they compounded by an incident that brings Rania and Hunter face to face.

What happens next will make you happy and sad and sometimes both at the same time. I recommend taking the time to read this book. It is a well written, emotional story that I can see myself reading over and over!

Wow! I feel like I have just been punched in the face. I was not expecting to feel this way after reading this book. It was amazing! A total story of complete and utter dispair that turns into a beautiful story of salvation for two broken people. I was completly taken for a ride with the heartache I first felt for Raina, dealing with war and all its causualities, living in a war zone for years. Not having anyone left, her worthlessness she felt for herself. Then you meet Hunter, an American soldier, broken, wounded in a foreign country, having no one. Then, by the grace of God (Allah)the two broken people find each other and slowly begin to heal each other. This subject matter was alittle scary to me. I was not sure how I would react to such a strong and real story like this one, but it really pulled me in, and I have to say that this will be right up on top of my great reads list. Such a well-written, heart wrenching book. So good!

Jasinda Wilder is an amazing talent.... I have read every erotic author out there and there is no one that can hold a candle to her..Her characters are unique and genuine.....that being said she has TOPPED herself with Wounded..... you will be drawn into this creative, soulfully rich, insightful story.. every sentence is relevant to the story unlike so many other authors. Her erotic writing is intricate and detailed in a very sensual tasteful way. SHE ALWAYS delivers on the sex... shes an original not a knock off like the current Freshman class of erotica writers.... shes the real deal.... dont stop here read all of her books...she's a freaking beast!!!!!!!

Summary (from Goodreads):

War has taken everything from me. My family. My home. My innocence. In a country blasted by war and wracked by economic hardship, a young orphan girl like me has very few options when it comes to survival. Thus, I do what I must to live, to eat, and I try very hard to not consider the cost to my soul. My heart is empty, and my existence brutal.

The one impossibility in my life is love.

And then I meet HIM.

War is hell. It takes a chunk out of a man's very soul to do the kinds of things war demands of you. You live with fear, you live with guilt, and you live with nightmares. If you haven't been through it, there's no understanding it. War leaves no room for love, no room for tenderness or softness. You gotta be hard, closed off, and ready to fight every moment of every day. Lose focus for a split second, and you're dead.
Now the only thing that can save me is HER.

What I Liked:

This book... this book was so powerful and emotional. You might see me use two words in particular throughout this book: bittersweet and heartbreaking. I almost cried so many times throughout this book, because of the story and its content.

This book deals with prostitution. Rania is forced to become a prostitute in order to survive. She was abandoned by her brother, when their parents died, at a very young age. I cannot imagine what I would have done in her situation, and I really cannot imagine having the strength to do what she did. I know in society, we tend to look down on prostitutes.

Maybe it's because I was in the military, I don't know but I just could not bring myself to like this book. The first few chapters were interesting and I was optimistic that the book would be a good one but then it just trailed off for me. I could not bring myself to buy into the story line. I'm sure it's possible, but I can't see it. I didn't particularly enjoy the writing, I found it a bit disjointed and choppy and that kept me from getting into the story as well. And I just couldn't connect with the characters. Overall I wouldn't personally recommend this book, however many other people have enjoyed it so that's just my opinion. I just feel that there are many other books out there that far exceed this one on many levels.
