5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful and Practical, February 7, 2006

This review is from: The Wounded Woman: Hope and Healing for Those Who Hurt (Paperback)
Over the past several months, I have been going through a long, hard and often painful healing process. I have been deeply wounded in a lot of different ways. I still have a long way to go. I have been searching for a book that would offer both hope and practical help. I found what I was looking for when I picked up a copy of "The Wounded Woman" This book is jam packed with practical advice, piercing insights and real help. It doesn't offer a quick fix. But it does help you understand how different attitudes and actions can hinder the healing process. This book was very eye opening. It also hit a lot of nerves. Anyone who has been deeply wounded will not make it through this book without shedding more than a few tears. But feeling is a key part of the healing process. I would highly recommend this book to any woman who is struggling with these types of issues. This is one book you will want to read with a pen or highlighter handy. Read the book through slowly. Take time to digest what you read and when you get through it the first time, read it again. This book has been absolutely life-changing for me. It has taught me to so much. I feel certain it will do the same for anyone who reads it. If you are a woman and you are hurting and wounded. Do yourself a favor. Buy a copy of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Healing Book, April 17, 2008
This review is from: The Wounded Woman: Hope and Healing for Those Who Hurt (Paperback)
As a child of abuse, a teenager of wildness, a young adult of abusive relationships and just pain/hurt one right after another, this book is truly awesome.

It comes from a spiritual aspect and truly is a great tool in overcoming the pain and hurt in your life. I had already overcome the hurt and pain in my life before purchasing this book. I am the founder of Women Living 4 Jesus Non-Profit Organization and was looking for books to help other sisters in Christ with the pain and hurt of life and came across this book. I read the book and wish I had it years ago, it would have saved me so much pain and hurt in life.

It is great because it does not just deal with a certain kind of pain or hurt - it covers all aspects of pain and hurt in our lives. It is an easy read and I found that I did not want to put it down even to take notes.

Even if you are free and clear of past pain/hurt in your life, this book is still a great book to read because it will help strengthen your walk in this life, it will give your encouragement and it may just give you the tools to help others in their time of need.

I recommend this book to all women and men!!

God Bless!

This review is from: The Wounded Woman: Hope and Healing for Those Who Hurt (Paperback)
I have several copies of this book because I hand them out to women who are hurting. If you read this book and answer the questions, taking your time, really allowing God to speak to you through the processes, you will be a different woman when you're finished! I was!

This review is from: The Wounded Woman: Hope and Healing for Those Who Hurt (Paperback)
A friend got me this book as a gift. I was so surprised by all the wonderful scriptural references. I had no idea it would be a good as it is! i would definitely recommend it! I thought it would just give general ideas and helpful hints, but it really dives into the pain and good ways for you to address the hurt you have. The spiritual connections were an added bonus!!!

I am a man who purchased this book for myself. I teach various classes in my church that includes both men and women. These classes are on subjects that will typically include a level of deep and personal sharing rergarding life experiences and the concsequences of those experiences in their lives. I have also been in a couple of relationships with ladies whom I learned after a short period of time were deeply wounded and were carrying huge amounts of pain and suffering from various sources and conditions from their pasts. Knowing what I have had to go through to face the woundedness of my own past on my growth journey, this knowledge of ladies experiences prompted me to buy this book for my own understanding and knowledge as I go forward in my life. This is a wonderful book for anyone (man or woman) who is committed to their personal growth and have the courage to squarely face the challenges of their woundedness and the pain and suffering those wounds do carry. The authors are very learned, honest, insightful and bold in their presentations of the subject matter. I highly recomment this book to those who are searching for true innner healing, peace and freedom from the woundedness in their lives and seek the opportunity to live the abundant life which God has called them to live - a life that is entirely possible on this earth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Be Yourself At All Times, September 19, 2009
This review is from: The Wounded Woman: Hope and Healing for Those Who Hurt (Paperback)
We are taught in America that every individual is unique and special. The quest for distinctiveness knows no bounds today. We even look for our specialness in the terrible things which happen in life. In this new "age of enlightenment," we need to transform our suffering into positive emotionnal states, to move from pain and peril, even after our trust has been betrayed, to redemption. Mainly, we have to work through our sorrows, thereby transforming the bad and the good so as to move forward in life.

We may not all be able to leave something positive behind, but at least we tried, and that's what is most important. We didn't give up and wither away in our grief. I found (when Miran died in a fire) that weeping sobbing, crying openly, helped, but there is no way to bring our loved one back from the dead. Our goal should be to keep his memory alive in our hearts and remember the times he touched your heart and showed unconditional love, which children do automatically to those they trust. After a sudden, unforeseen death of someone you love, you can and will learn to make adjustments and able to move ahead. You have to, you can't stagnate as others need your inner strength and outer devotion, too.

You can't keep that person alive in your memory as you must let go for your own self-preservation. God sent that person into your life for a purpose. There is not one single individual we can hang on to forever, though we may want to with all our heart and soul. It's not meant to be. As we age, we change on the inside as much as the outer appearance. We can't all be beautiful on the outside as lovely five-year-old Miran, but we can be loving and loveable on the inside. The good and true inner self wins out. It shows in the eyes.

Although Emerson writes of "great men" and "genius," he directed his words to the everyday farmers, businessmen, and professionals who enjoyed the relative prosperity and the freedoms of living in America during the years leading up to the Civil War. The Emersonian self of idealism and optimism has its down side as he tries to portray the inner self as dark, secretive personnas; instead it controls out actions by guidance and inspiration. Freud believed that theres was no purity or innocence, no simple truth within. His thesis that the deeper, t he uglier it got. He was wrong. Not all of our actions are caused by sexual desire. We can control our urges or shameful secrets of the soul. He had an Oedipus complex, but that doesn't mean we all do. He was "pleasure" oriented and felt that the past cannot be undone.

We are a victim of heritage and our circumstances, which can be improved by effort. The American idea that everybody is above average comes from a Public Radio Show, Prairie Home Companion. The idea is evoked with charm and humor in Garrison Keillor's stories of Lake Wobegon, Minnesota, where "all women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average." That could cover all of the small towns in the United States and parts of the larger cities. It is not the American dream to look pretty and aim to be above average. We strive to be first class in every way and learn to overcome obstatles. Strong women are good at that, and always have been. He didn't mention that strong women can also be beautiful. All blondes are not dumb, and white hair give one a sense of destiny and determination to show their innate abilities to adapt. Life can be beautiful by the Sabres, a California men singers group from the Sixties.
