Exquisite Dark Tales,
By Louis N. Gruber "Author of Jay" (Lexington, SC United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Wounds That Bind (Paperback)
Sixteen elegantly crafted short stories set mostly in the decaying southern town of Azalea Springs. Stories of unrequited lust, the wounds of war, disappointment, betrayal, revenge, and--on occasion--the posssibility of redemption. The stories are tightly written, almost always with a shocking twist at the end, often violent, but not always.
Like its companion collection, Walking Wounded, this one is peopled by losers, people who don't fit in, people who never quite make it. But these stories are a shade lighter, redeemed by flashes of humor and the occasional hearty laugh. Author Jimmy Carl Harris is a great story-teller. If you enjoyed Walking Wounded you will love Wounds That Bind. These are stories with punch, stories that draw you in and hold you. I recommend this one highly. Reviewed by Louis N. Gruber. |
