5.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection, August 20, 1999

This review is from: Wow the 90's: 30 Top Christian Songs Decade (Audio CD)
Wow - that's the only word I'm left with after hearing this compilation. This collection will bring back memories for anyone who's listened to Christian music in this decade. To the ones who don't think there are enough styles represented, I stand behind WoW for their decisions. For instance, a "Stomp" or "Revolution" by Kirk Franklin has never appeared on a WoW no matter how popular each was. This collection is made up of more timeless material - songs that will not go out of style for years and transcend time. No matter how great the Supertones may be now, ska music is on the way out, and this collection does not concentrate on fads and style (although ska may be awesome) but on the music that will truly stand on its own (at least until Wow - the 2000's).

While hard rock and rap and alternative thrived in Christian music in the latter part of the decade, this collection attempts to bring the lighter side to the forefront.

To those who think more artists should have been represented, the title of this CD is the 30 greatest SONGS of the decade - not artists.

Kudos for putting in Michael English and Amy Grant's two songs (two good choices amidst a list of many). Michael W. Smith, 4Him, Jaci Velasquez - all had substantial hits this decade, and deserved to have two songs in my opinion.

One notable missing is Ray Boltz "I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb." I think this song is one of the best of the decade, and would have liked to have seen it on the compilation. Also BeBe and Ce Ce Winans could've made the cut. Still, this offering is wonderful and I can't complain. It is in my CD player constantly, and WoW couldn't fit everybody in. Thank you WoW for making such a great collection despite arguments for more diversity. You have offered a timeless collection that will continue to be popular in the next decade and beyond...

Great CD - no doubt about it! I love it, and my children love listening to this CD so much, that I have to go hunting for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, if you understand why it is there., October 6, 1999

C'mon! Look on the back! It says, "The 90s have been a decade of explosive growth in CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN MUSIC, and WoW the 90s captures the artists and songs fueling that explosion." Yes, it is contemporary. That's what it says, and it is true. Don't confuse yourself on the purpose of the CDs; it is not to show you all of the Christian artists that have been popular this decade, but rather to show you the major songs and artists that have guided the industry thoughout the past ten years. That is why you'll find more of the slightly harder and temporarily popular music on the WoW CDs for the individual years (WoW '99, WoW 2000). Liking harder stuff often as I may, I didn't buy the CD expecting to hear all of the most popular songs--just the some of the most important.
