5.0 out of 5 stars Taps into the joy of Childhood
I love this book!!! It reminds me how mysterious, joyful and beautiful things seemed when I was a child. I regained so much appreciation for America pouring over the beautiful pages of this book. 3.0 out of 5 stars ?Ummm, not sure of the point of this book....
The drawings are primitive, cartoonish and caracature-ish.
On the plus side, Hawaii and Alaska are portrayed.
On the minus side, this book only touches on areas of America; New England is covered in one page, Niagara Falls on another.
Each page has a "Wow!_____" on it, with one or two sentences summarizing the portrayed scene.
I suppose it's a cute...

5.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to geography, July 29, 2006
This review is from: Wow! America! (Hardcover)
Izzy chases her little sister down the mountain - and all the way across the country, heading on a journey to marvel at different states. What a great introduction to geography: a girls' adventure story celebrating fun facts and pairing them with full-page, bright color paintings!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow what a country, July 27, 2006
This review is from: Wow! America! (Hardcover)
Beautiful book!!! Visually exciting for children and adults alike. This is the type of book everyone should have it truely celebrates all that makes America such a great place to live. It is also a very child friendly way to introduce the youngest readers to the concept of geography. This book is a must for anyone who loves america. You may be tempted to cut out the Grand Canyon gate fold and hang it on a wall but then you will have to get another book for reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!!!!, February 6, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wow! America! (Hardcover)
This book should have won the Caldecott award because people would understand it very easily. It was a great book for grades 2 and up because for people under the age of 7 wouldn't get nost of the parts. WOW! Anerica! had very interesting and cool facts about important places in the world. The pictures were easy to read and understand. This book had bright pictures and made want to keep looking at the pictures instead of reading the book. When I first read it, I didn't really get it. But when I read it another time, I wanted to keep reading and reading and reading it over and over and over agsin. The text was very factual and would be a good resource to learn a few facts about America that you might not have known before you read this book!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars America the beautiful, August 27, 2010
This review is from: Wow! America! (Hardcover)
This is a larger-than-life picture book of America. I wish it were back in print, because I would love to give this book as gifts.

Two small children go see some of America's amazing sights. Robert Neubecker gives each page a GIANT illustration and a blurb, plus a WOW! that your kids can shout. This book is so fun to take to school to read to kindergarteners/first graders. The huge illustrations really convey the dynamic beauty of America. Some are vertical, some are horizontal, and Washington DC goes all the way around. How cool is that? You even get 2 fold-out extra-large illustrations -- the Mississippi River and the Grand Canyon.

Wow, indeed.

The end papers have two maps of America -- one with the states names, and one with landmarks.

This book should have won the Caldecott award because the pictures were very vivid. On each page, there were a lot of facts about all of the places in the world. It is a great book age wise for 3 and up because it was very easy to read and little kids would understand it very easily. Also, people of all ages would learn something from this book. All of the book's facts are very easy to understand. The pictures were easy to look and easy to the eyes. The book was a great book!!!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wow! America! (Hardcover)
Wow, I could use this book (and I might) as a unit study of America--it is packed full of great information and wonderful illustrations. My 8 year old spent several hours, along with my mother, poring over the pages, and has been bugging me to read it to her again. Great book!
