Wow Elvis!,
This review is from: Wow Flash (Audio CD)
Elvis Crespo has established himself as one of the hottest stars of the Merengue scene with his albums "Pintame" and "Suavemente." His new album, "Wow Flash!" is, in my opinion, his best yet. This album showcases Elvis' strengths while giving him room to grow as a performer. As in his previous albums, the songs in "Wow Flash!" have Spanish lyrics, although the title song mixes in some English lines. Elvis' distinctive voice is in top form. Full of power and rhythm, Elvis' vocal performances sweep you away with the power of a tropical hurricane. His voice is well suited to the aggressive, percussion-rich style of the album's most energetic tracks. But Elvis also shows great range on "Wow Flash!"--he has many opportunities to sing in a gentler mode. One interesting aspect of the album is the appearance of the title song in two versions: one Merengue, one pop. The excellent song "No me olvidaras" also appears in two versions: one Merengue, one a ballad. Elvis excels, whatever the style. And he even wrote or co-wrote many of the songs on this disc. In addition to the highlights described above, there are many other strong selections on this disc. "La Noche" has some great guitar and percussion complementing Elvis' performance. And "Cuando me entrego al amor" is a beautiful song with very moving, very romantic lyrics. "Wow Flash!" is an essential addition to any serious collection of contemporary Latin music.

The world couldn't get enough of "Suavemente".,

Elvis Crespo's new album starts off with a bang. Like his other spanish/english hit, mega-selling "Suavemente", the title track "Wow Flash" is destined to be a frequently played hit in latin clubs. This album shows a lot of maturation on the part of Elvis. He seems to be experimenting more with his voice (check out track #3) and with styles (sample track #6, is that a bachata?). Don't worry, you won't miss the old Elvis with songs like "Mi sol, mi luna", which is performed in Elvis' signature style. The fun intros and experimentation with other sounds keep this album from being one monotonous mid-to-slow tempo merengue. (I didn't even hate the ballad version of "No Me Olvidaras".) For an Elvis fan this is a must-have. I can't wait to hear what he comes up with next.

Being an avid Elvis fan, I was so excited to hear of this cd. I immediately ran out and got it. At first I was disappointed, I thought it was all the same, but I remembered feeling like that after Pintame, and then I remembered how I couldn't keep my hands of it! It is like that all over again! He has some snazzy remakes, and fun songs. I love Wow Flash, Bella Flor, la Noche, mI sol mi luna, and more! I love the song w/ the arabian beats in it too.. nice touch... i think this cd is more diverse than the others, and i love it as it's own entitly. It is merengue, so I knew that some beats would be similar to his others, but it is great!!

Elvis Crespo is fantastic at getting the merengue party going strong. Wow Flash is certainly a great party record, full of propulsive beats and really enjoyable horn stabs. Elvis's voice, however, has always been an acquired taste, and here it is no different. He has a very nasal delivery, and honestly is not very melodic. He is committed to what he sings, and he sings with passion, but you either love that nasally tone or you don't. For me, it is not really my favorite. That said, the music goes over very well at a party, and it is great in the mix with other tropical beats. The title song feels a little forced to me, and the world did not need a pop version of it, I'll tell you that for free, but none of the above complaints have kept me from enjoying some moments on this album a great deal--I just don't think that I will return to it frequently after its initial blush is gone.

Second Best Album,

Why didn't this album fare as well as Pintame? If anyone knows, please let me know. The album tries to sound different from the first two albums and I guess most people wanted all his albums sound the same; not a good move for a long term career.

The Best so far,

Of the 3 CD's that I have by Elvis Crespo, this is the best. It just makes one move and shake in whatever they may be doing while listening, a great motivator! It's appealing to all age groups and all ethnic backgrounds. I find it most refreshing to be listening to this. The music makes one more self-expressive with an inner passion that feels so natural.

It's not "Suavemente" nor "Pintame" Again!!,

I really think with the success and similarities of "Suavemente"(Platinum) and "Pintame"(Gold), Elvis would try to change his style......I believed he's heard me. "Wow Flash" doesn't contain the same rhythm that his previous albums suffered. Now, it has a different rhythm, but same pace and somewhat catchy, even though yelling "WOW Flash" does irritate. Secondly, "No me Olvidaras" has another phat medley that really caught my attention. I recommend this album because you don't have to sing "Suavemente" nor "Pintame" over it.
