listen carefully,
This review is from: Wow Gold (Audio CD)
WOW Gold is perhaps the definitive collection of music outlining the soul of the christian music industry. Cuts like "Why should the devil have all the good music?" and "My Tribute" are pieces of history and part of the heritage of christian music. The inclusion of "Easter Song" by Second Chapter of Acts, "You put this love in my heart" by Keith Green, and "Awesome God" by Rich Mullins, are tributes to artists who made a mark in the world by their personal lives and testimonies in addition to their music. WOW Gold is not a collection of biggest sellers - it is a history. "What if I Stumble" by dc Talk is not the group's biggest seller, but it is a testimony to the heart of the group and the christian music industry as a whole. "Not Ashamed" by the Newsboys is a piece that bears testimony to the calling the group has focused on; standing up for the Truth, even when the world finds it offensive. The only song in the collection that should definately not be there is Kirk Franklin's "Stomp". Gospel is a genre that needs to be represented and Kirk Franklin is an artist who has made his mark in the industry. But, "Stomp" is just not a good representative piece. Something else should definately have been chosen. This album spans an incredible collection of musical styles. From Stryper to Keith Green to Jars of Clay to Bob Carlyle, this is an incredible collection of music and one i am proud to own.

GREAT INTRODUCTION TO CHRISTIAN MUSIC! It helped me!,
By Mr. Wynn (State of Confusion) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wow Gold (Audio CD)
I started to listen to Christian music in 2000. Never had an interest in it before, really. Amy Grant was who eased me into it. Since Amy was on this compilation, I thought, how do the rest sound. How did Christian music sound back in then and how has it evolved. This is the album that answered my questions. WOW! Maybe that's why they entitled these collections that. How ecclectic the collection of songs it on this 2-CD set. It's wonderful! Jars of Clay opens the collection with "Flood" which received much airplay on secular stations. As the songs continue, the pop tunes really makes it easy to transition into Christian music. Music with a message! Great songs on every track! Highlights: Awesome God, For the Sake of the Call, Thy Word, He is Exalted, Friends, Easter Song, Rise Again, Praise the Lord, My Tribute, Thank You. So many more great songs on this set. If you want to ease a friend into Christian music, this is the CD for him/her. Maybe you have been curious. Take it from me, buy it. I did and listen to it all the time.

One of the best Christian CDs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wow Gold (Audio CD)
THIS CD IS AWESOME! From the first song on the first CD to the last song on the second CD, it is probably one of the best CDs I own. Almost every style of Contemporary Christian music is represented on this album. The first CD contains mostly alternative styles, while the second CD contains mostly pop. I really enjoy this CD because it has a wide variety of musical styles while maintaining great Christian messages in every song. Different songs also evoke different emotions in the listener, which means you can find something to match several different moods. Songs like "Flood" and "Beyond Belief" will make you feel energized and enthusiastic about your faith, while songs like "Friends" and "Thank You" will make you quietly reflect on those people who have really made a difference in your life. I recently did a research report on CCM, and from what I found, these thirty songs do, for the most part, represent the top Christian songs. The music is great, and the lyrics are outstanding. There are so many songs today that have good music, but if you really listen to the song, you will discover that the song means nothing or is very disgusting. None of these songs are on this album. If you like great songs that are not merely worth hearing, but worth really listening to, buy this CD. It is also great for breaking a generation gap in that it contains music from the past three decades. I am a teenager, and I love this CD. At the same time, my mom keeps asking me if she can borrow it. This CD is practically guaranteed to please almost any Christian music fan. There were only two things I didn't like about this CD: that it contains the song "Butterfly Kisses," which has already been overplayed so much that I no longer like the song, and that I wish it had come out about a month earlier so I could have used it for my modern history project. This CD has quickly become a favorite of mine, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes any type of Christian music because of the variety of styles and great Christ-centered messages. This CD shows how much Contemporary Christian music has grown over the past thirty years, and yet it has still maintained its original point of view: to produce music that is great to listen to that also has Christian lyrics. Thirty years ago, Larry Norman asked the question, "Why should the devil have all the good music?" This is a very good point to make. Anyone who listens to this CD will understand that now, thirty years later, the devil definitely does NOT have all the good music anymore.
