listen carefully,
This review is from: Wow Gold (Audio CD)
WOW Gold is perhaps the definitive collection of music outlining the soul of the christian music industry. Cuts like "Why should the devil have all the good music?" and "My Tribute" are pieces of history and part of the heritage of christian music. The inclusion of "Easter Song" by Second Chapter of Acts, "You put this love in my heart" by Keith Green, and "Awesome God" by Rich Mullins, are tributes to artists who made a mark in the world by their personal lives and testimonies in addition to their music. WOW Gold is not a collection of biggest sellers - it is a history. "What if I Stumble" by dc Talk is not the group's biggest seller, but it is a testimony to the heart of the group and the christian music industry as a whole. "Not Ashamed" by the Newsboys is a piece that bears testimony to the calling the group has focused on; standing up for the Truth, even when the world finds it offensive. The only song in the collection that should definately not be there is Kirk Franklin's "Stomp". Gospel is a genre that needs to be represented and Kirk Franklin is an artist who has made his mark in the industry. But, "Stomp" is just not a good representative piece. Something else should definately have been chosen. This album spans an incredible collection of musical styles. From Stryper to Keith Green to Jars of Clay to Bob Carlyle, this is an incredible collection of music and one i am proud to own.

GREAT INTRODUCTION TO CHRISTIAN MUSIC! It helped me!,
By Mr. Wynn (State of Confusion) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wow Gold (Audio CD)
I started to listen to Christian music in 2000. Never had an interest in it before, really. Amy Grant was who eased me into it. Since Amy was on this compilation, I thought, how do the rest sound. How did Christian music sound back in then and how has it evolved. This is the album that answered my questions. WOW! Maybe that's why they entitled these collections that. How ecclectic the collection of songs it on this 2-CD set. It's wonderful! Jars of Clay opens the collection with "Flood" which received much airplay on secular stations. As the songs continue, the pop tunes really makes it easy to transition into Christian music. Music with a message! Great songs on every track! Highlights: Awesome God, For the Sake of the Call, Thy Word, He is Exalted, Friends, Easter Song, Rise Again, Praise the Lord, My Tribute, Thank You. So many more great songs on this set. If you want to ease a friend into Christian music, this is the CD for him/her. Maybe you have been curious. Take it from me, buy it. I did and listen to it all the time.

One of the best Christian CDs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wow Gold (Audio CD)
THIS CD IS AWESOME! From the first song on the first CD to the last song on the second CD, it is probably one of the best CDs I own. Almost every style of Contemporary Christian music is represented on this album. The first CD contains mostly alternative styles, while the second CD contains mostly pop. I really enjoy this CD because it has a wide variety of musical styles while maintaining great Christian messages in every song. Different songs also evoke different emotions in the listener, which means you can find something to match several different moods. Songs like "Flood" and "Beyond Belief" will make you feel energized and enthusiastic about your faith, while songs like "Friends" and "Thank You" will make you quietly reflect on those people who have really made a difference in your life. I recently did a research report on CCM, and from what I found, these thirty songs do, for the most part, represent the top Christian songs. The music is great, and the lyrics are outstanding. There are so many songs today that have good music, but if you really listen to the song, you will discover that the song means nothing or is very disgusting. None of these songs are on this album. If you like great songs that are not merely worth hearing, but worth really listening to, buy this CD. It is also great for breaking a generation gap in that it contains music from the past three decades. I am a teenager, and I love this CD. At the same time, my mom keeps asking me if she can borrow it. This CD is practically guaranteed to please almost any Christian music fan. There were only two things I didn't like about this CD: that it contains the song "Butterfly Kisses," which has already been overplayed so much that I no longer like the song, and that I wish it had come out about a month earlier so I could have used it for my modern history project. This CD has quickly become a favorite of mine, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes any type of Christian music because of the variety of styles and great Christ-centered messages. This CD shows how much Contemporary Christian music has grown over the past thirty years, and yet it has still maintained its original point of view: to produce music that is great to listen to that also has Christian lyrics. Thirty years ago, Larry Norman asked the question, "Why should the devil have all the good music?" This is a very good point to make. Anyone who listens to this CD will understand that now, thirty years later, the devil definitely does NOT have all the good music anymore.

Professional CD, unprofessional selection.,

Basically, the creators of the WOW CDs have once again created controversy over their selections. Take for example, their DC Talk pick. "Jesus Freak" was much more landmark and ground breaking and influential than "What If I Stumble" even if it was 'harder'. Their Kirk Franklin pick is questionable, but ok. "Stomp" was definately all influential and ground breaking, but so was "Revolution" which probably would have been better for this CD.How about their Newsboys pick? WHERE THE HECK IS "SHINE"? "I'm Not Ashamed" again, is an ok pick. But it's definately not the best one they could have taken. Same goes for Delirious ("Gravity" or "Deeper"), Avalon ("Adonai"), Larry Norman ("I Wish We'd All Been Ready"), and Ray Boltz ("The Anchor Holds"). I must admit though, their Carman pick was a good one for a change. Someone actually did some research for that one. Anyway, if you're up for a nice CD, get this set. But don't expect the absolute best songs from each and every artist.

Talk about the compilation of a lifetime! Some of the best contemporary Christian music (CCM) of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s can be found on this two-CD, 30-song compilation. From Larry Norman's original 1972 Christian rock rallying cry "Why Should The Devil Have All The Good Music?" to Dallas Holm & Praise's two-year chart topping song "Rise Again" to the absolutely delicious 1997 gospel-rock (there is no other way to classify this song) collaboration song "Stomp" by God's Property and Kirk Franklin, just about every CCM style out there is represented by the best of the best here. In the mood for some good, old nostalgia? You're covered here with 1974's "Easter Song" by 2nd Chapter of Acts, and 1985's "Undivided" by First Call, as well as Keith Green's "You Put This Love In My Heart" and Russ Taft's first number one hit "We Will Stand." There are many, many more songs on this compilation worth reliving. From the older "Phil Keaggy" to the newer "dc Talk," there is something for everyone. Make sure your collection contains these best of the best.

This wonderful two-CD set contains thirty of the greatest Christian songs from the 1970s, 80s and 90s! Everything is here from Rich Mullins' Awesome God to 2nd Chapter of Acts' Easter Song. (Obviously, those are a couple of my favorites!) This is a great CD set that has a little bit of everything, and all of it sounding great. Overall, I found the sound quality to be great, and I love listening to these CDs on my way home from work. They are a great way to recharge my battery and put me in a worshipful mood.
I love this CD set, and give it my highest recommendations!

WOW has done a great thing by putting together a seriers of albums with only the best Christian songs known on them and this alboum is by far the best. You not only get some of the greatest songs from today but also great songs from back as far as the early 70's. You get a wide rang of Christian music on the CD's too and that is what makes it stand out from the rest of the albums that I have heard. In my opinion if you like Christian music this is the album for you.

A Great Blend of Christian Music,
This review is from: Wow Gold (Audio CD)
So far, all of the WOW album's have surpassed expectation, now WOW GOLD goes even further. The mix of music is great, it comprises of the most popular songs and the most meaningful. All the big names are here; Jars Of Clay, Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith. The album is a great icon of how well CCM has progressed over recent years.

Wow Gold: This one is subtitled "30 Landmark Christian Songs of the 70's, 80's, and 90's", which is an accurate title for this 2 CD set. Now it is true that 30 songs are hardly an adequate representation for three decades of music making, but this is still an very entertaining, quality, set. Five Stars
