4.0 out of 5 stars Too much Pop-Urban music, but has some great songs., December 1, 2001
This review is from: Wow Hits 2002 (Audio CD)
I loved WOW 2001. It had a great mix of songs by some of he best bands and people you could ever think of. I was a bit disappointed though by this record. It has WAY too much Pop music...and not enough Rock. It's like they were trying to make this CD for christian 11 and 12 year old girls (and I know that not ALL pre-teen girls are into Pop music...but most are). Some examples of this are: "Jump, Jump, Jump" by Boy Band True Vibe and "God Is In This Place" by Boy Band Plus One. I know this song was a hit, but its to "Poppy": "Spinnin Around" by Jump 5. some more examples are "Genuine" by Stacie Orrico, and "Differant Now" by Out of Eden. I also don't like "Witness" Nicole C. Mullen...Its a HUGE contrast form last year's hit, Reedemer.

Also (this has nothing to do with Pop music), I am a bit sad about that dc Talks SOLO songs (one from each guy) are on this disc and not a group song. I am glad though that each of the 3 songs are great: "Existence" by Kevin Max, "Somebodies Watchin' Me" by TobyMac, and "All You Got" by TAIT.

But then, a few of the songs are badly chosen: Steven Curtis Chapman's song "Live Out Loud", one of the biggest hits of summer 2001, was replaced with "This Day" (I do like "This Day" though). "40 Days" was chosen instead of "Come Together" by Third Day, but if it was my choice, those two songs are on equal ground as to how good they are. "Jump, Jump, Jump" (a song I loath alot) was chosen over "Now and Forever" by True Vibe. One of the BIGGEST disapointments I had was "Breath(Live)" by Michael W. Smith. His rendition of "Above All" is one of his best songs (even if its very really slow). I am also sad that Delerious? was not included in this CD.

I did give this disc (2 discs really) a 4 star rating though because thise CD does include some classics. For Example: this CD features the hit song "Isn't It Love" by Andrew Peterson. IS also has the Newest Newsboys hit, "Joy" from the greatest hits record. "We Delight" by Caedmons Call is very nice. I also love "Beautiful" by Audio Adrenaline. "Hey, Hey, Hey" is another neat 60's-rock style of a song by The Elms (Its a fun song). And the Mark Schultz song, "Back In His Arms" is awsome and inspiring. "Welcome Home" is also a great song by Shaun Groves.

This is a great CD complilation, but if you buy it, expect some disapointments.

Rock On People.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great, but really needs more variety!, January 30, 2002

First of all I love music more than anyone I know my age, and I am a big fan of WoW. I buy every wow cd(except gospel and worship) right when it hits the stores. My favorite was WoW 1999, because it had variety. There were worship songs, pop, rock songs, soft, light songs, i think even some gospel. But slowly they got less and less variety. WoW 2000 was pretty good, WoW 2001 kept me occupied a while but this- It's just-bleh. This just doesn't have variety. But it isn't terrible however. There are some good songs. Such 3rd day's 40 days traditional "40 days", AudioA's funky "Beautiful", toby's "Somebody's Watching", "Existence" by KMax, "Breathe" by Micheal W. Smith, and "Hey, Hey" by The Elms.
All in all, this is just you're average double-disk various artists cd. Try finding it on ebay, 'cause it's more worth 15 or 16 bucks than 20. Hopefully they've discovered they're problem and'll fix it on WoW 2003. But I'm not giving up on them yet...

5.0 out of 5 stars "WOW!!", January 7, 2002

Normally when you buy a CD you'd expect to like maybe one out of every 2 or 3 songs. When I came across WOW 2002, I was shocked. Before this CD even came out I loved the songs "Existence" by Kevin Max (of DC Talk), "Jump, jump, jump" by True Vibe, "Psalm 112" by 4Him...I could continue to list them because I love 28 out of the 30 songs (listed)!!

There is a nice variety including Michael W. Smith with a praise and Worship song (which I dislike, I had enough praise and worship since I went to his "Worship CD" recording in Lakeland...but you may be someone who likes that kind of style).

TobyMac from DC Talk shows off his rapping talents (although I prefer his song "Extreme Days"...) in "Somebody's Watching."

I'm kind of "iffy" on songs like "With Every Breath." I don't care for the high-pitched voices...they tend to get annoying, however, I'm a HUGE fan of Jars of Clay and enjoyed hearing Dan Haseltine's voice in it!

"Jump, jump, jump" by True Vibe is pretty up-beat, but not loud/noisy. It is a good song to dance to (for me at least...like I jump when they say "jump" and I dance when it says "move" and I raise the roof when they say "put your hands to the roof". Someone who is easily entertained may get a kick out of doing that throughout the song - I do at least!!

I also enjoy the songs by the female artists like Racheal Lampa, Jaci Velasquez, and ZOEgirl. While Jaci offers a slower song, Racheal Lampa speeds things up with "You Lift me Up"

Needless to say, I love this CD! I have come across many WOW CDs and not one other offers as many great songs (in my opinion) on a 2-CD set!

I am shocked though, that some people give negative reveiws for this CD. But, if you expect to like just a few songs on a CD anyways, give this CD a shot, you may end up to like a lot more songs than you bargined for!
