Tinkerbell Flies!,

My two daughters (3 1/2 and 7 1/2) love the Fairy Haven book series and my youngest loves Tinker Bell. I saw these at our local Wal-Mart and picked two up (gotta get one on bandwidth A and one on B if you want two in your house otherwise they won't work together). I opened them to demo them together before Christmas to make sure that there would be no surprises about their functionality. They only go up or down, not sideways. It's a simple remote so that is positive. My husband and I thought they were really cute and our daughters will be tickled to play with them. However,I am once again disappointed with the price of this toy. I don't often purchase toys for our girls since the quality never outweighs the cost. More often than not, I will purchase a learning toy that I feel will be fun for them and educational. This is not a toy for our youngest to use alone (it's for 6 and up) since it's basically made of styrofoam. I guess it can't be heavy for it to fly. The other materials used to make this are really cheap and it seems poorly made (at $40 a pop I think that's disgraceful). BUT, I like to get them at least one exciting toy for Christmas and this seems to be the one. I'll update this once they are played with and see how long the novelty lasts. My guess is it won't last for long but I'm optimistic and hopeful. We'll see.

This was a Christmas present for our 5-year-old daughter from her grandparents (she did not ask for it-- hadn't even heard about it). She loved it, but Tinkerbell needed constant recharging and after about 5 minutes total airtime, the base needed new batteries. Very flimsy, no control over its course direction, erratic flying, and you can't prevent most crashes. After one week and two sets of batteries, the wings broke and the toy is useless. But my husband and I were surprised it lasted a week. Wish her grandparents had used their $$ for something else.

I bought 2 of these for my 2 daughters. One broke the day they were opened for Christmas. The other broke the next day. What a waste of money. All of Disney products are cheaply made with an expensive price tag. I will be more careful in the future. Do not waste your money!

Great Toy, but Be Realistic!,

We got this for our 8 year old daughter and she absolutely loves it. We realized right away that you have to be careful with this thing since it is by nature going to crash a lot. After talkign with our daughter about being careful and repairing it a few times the past month she has had a blast with this thing. It has held up well considering the abuse it gets, but be realistic this thing will require a little tlc to keep it flying and in tact after some bad crashes which is bound to happen.

I bought this for my 3 year old granddaughter and it took her mother and father just to get it out of the package and then to get it open to put the batteries in was crazy. It says it has to charge 18 minutes and it will fly for 4 minutes and they're right. 18 minutes is a long time for Tinkerbell to "sleep" so she can fly for such a short time. Her wings are very fragile and you have to be pretty careful with her. She's fun when she flies and brought lots of smiles and giggles but it was a struggle for the adults to get her going.

Good Exciting Toy!,

I purchased this toy for my 4 year old daughter and she loves it. Just make sure you read the instructions and directions FIRST and you won't have any trouble. The plastic wings could be a little more durable, and the body should have been made from plastic, instead of styrofoam. The connection wires should also have been made of a more durable type of wire. Otherwise, it's a good and exciting toy. Also, make SURE you do not take this toy outside, or else Tinkerbell will fly away and never come back. Whewwwww!

Believe the reviews, this toy is less durable than a paper airplane. My daughter HAD to have it for Christmas, I don't know where she found out about it (she's 3 1/2), but it's the only thing she asked for. So grandma and grandpa got it for her, and I must say as another reviewer did, that the the fact that I didn't break it while removing it from the packaging was a miracle. The plug to charge it felt like it would snap in two, and when finally charged, she took off for her maiden voyage. The only control is either flap slow or fast. She flies pretty well, but with no way to steer, it's like a wild bird got loose in the house. On about her fifth flight, she flapped too close to my daughter's head and she smacked her, breaking her wing. That was it, she flies straight into the ground now. I figure with about 10 total minutes of flight time, it was about 5 dollars a minute to operate. Not worth it!

I saw all the bad reviews and had to say something. I love this toy! My daughter (4) liked it, too. But I loved this toy. I bought it at a discount store thinking it would never work. After we charged it up and tried to turn it on it didn't do anything for a few seconds. Then the wings started going and it scared me so bad I screamed then started laughing. It is ingenious. We played with it for hours, learning to swoop and dive to avoid objects. True, it can't be controlled precisely. That's part of what makes it fun--this is like having a live bird flying around your house. Sometime it will even chase you. The baby (toddler) even ran after it and brought it to us--fun for the whole family! You need to be a little tech-savvy to get the remote to work (just a little: read the manual and try turning it off and on again). It also eats batteries, so you need rechargable ones. Ours did eventually break after my daughter wrenched on the wings when it was off. I don't blame the toy for that. I think it is a wonderful way to interest girls in robotics and flight science/technology. I am buying another one! (p.s. I think that Wow Wee warantees them if you buy from an authorized dealer--so not a discount store)

I received this magical fairy from my son as a Christmas gift. Being a life long fan of Tink I adore this magical fairy....the only thing that could make her better would be fairy dust! I am over 14 years old and would not give it to a young child. Get real people, kids break things, especially fragile things. BUT this is the ideal present for an adult TinkerBell fan....it will melt a grown woman's heart. Guys can have their helicopters and planes...us endlessly fairy minded girls can have our Tinks.

Purchased the RC Flying Tinkerbell for my grand daughters ages 6 & 10 since they are big fans of "Tink" and love to imagine what it is like to 'fly'.
Product quality is good, battery installation simple and the instructions are easy. It does fly both up and down using the control switch (which basically controls the wing flapping speed), but there is no lateral or side-to-side control, ie., you are at the mercy of any air moving in the room or the height of your ceilings. She pretty much goes where she wants to, which is what Tink always did in the movies anyways. I did crash it a couple of times on her descent, but the product held up to the impact with no wing or body damage. The device does hold the charge for the time specified, and only takes 20 minutes or less to fully re-charge. Since the girls don't own any RC devices I think they will enjoy this toy and will be pleasantly surprised on Christmas day. |
