Good for the money RC toy,

I purchased one of these from another vender some time ago. I was surprised by the level of detail; it is more like a scale model than a toy. Some of the finer details break off easily but this does not affect the function of the boat. It looks very much like a Russian Sovremenny Class DDG in 1/200 scale. After having it for a while I disassembled it and painted more to scale, it looks great as is but with a nice scale model like paint job it is even better.
The boat runs real well forward, reverse, left and right. There is no "throttle" just go or no go. The boat runs well in a small lake and does not get too upset if the water is not glass smooth. . It has a neat safety feature: the motors will not run unless the boat is in the water or some other form of conductor touching both propeller shafts. I found this out when bench testing the boat before I used it in water. The information on the box is not real clear about this feature. I have purchased other items from Hobbytron and they are a good vender if a tad slow on shipping. For about $50.00 with shipping it is a pretty good buy. For something smaller and cheaper the RC Warship Electric Boat with Battery and Charger, torpedo boat from Hobbietron is also very nice.

The Smasher RC Destroyer is a nice model of a Russian Souvemanney Missle curser. Remove some of the toy -like items, stick on names ,paint some of the bright silver battleship gray and you have a nice boat. The speed in the water is way to fast even for the real boat. RC batteries in the same size, but in lower voltage range can be purchased that will let this ship run at a nice scale speed. You do not have to use the built in battery charger, batteries can be charged out of the boat then installed. I always recommend atleast 2 fully charged batteries when operating so when one is used you can keep sailing. The Helix helocopter on the flight deck is the wrong scale. Should be removed, it could be replaced with one from the similar Challenger Aircraft Carrier which are the right scale. There is a Child Proof Safety feature, the boat will not run out out of the water like others will. You must have it it the water to run, or use clip lead wires between the the motors to test run out of the water. Instructions on the box fail to mention this feature. Not a bad model RC ship it is however not a kids toy, older children yes. Nate Goodman Salt Lake, Utah.

This is not a toy for a small child, this is a model with speed. It only works in the water so don't think it is broken when it doesnt work on dry land.

This is an excellent quality toy. The detail on it is amazing for the price. It does have some cheesey stickers on it, but these can be easily removed and replaced with a nice paint job. As mentioned in other reviews, the boat only runs in the water. There are two pads on the stern deck that you can touch with your finger if you want to test the motors out of the water. There is no speed control and you only have control (forward and reverse) for each of the two motors. There is no rudder. Even so, the boat can turn quite sharply. Running one motor in full forward and one in full reverse, you can make a circle about 6-9 feet (~2-3 meters) in diameter. By alternating one motor on forward and then the other motor on reverse, you can get it to turn around in about a 3 foot space. Keep in mind that the boat itself is 2.5 feet long. The motors, in my opinion, run way too fast. A speed control remote would be a nice option. Another feature missing is the fact that the electronics and motors are buried inside the sealed hull. I tried to disassemble it to get to the electronics, but I could not get to the inside since the deck appeared to be glued to the hull. While this is a good feature for keeping the electronics from getting wet, it would be nice to be able to upgrade the electronics and motors with stuff from the hobby store. Since there is an accessible compartment for the battery, it should not be too hard to have a compartment for the electronics and motors. The fact that the electronics are simple and the electronics are not easily accessible is the reason I give this toy 4 stars.

Nice to look at, fast to drive, but it way to top heavy. If you turn too quickly it's likely to tip over.
