5.0 out of 5 stars Just what the mechanic ordered.
Great book this is my third one. I bought one for a Subaru GL Wagon and used it to rebuild the engine. Invaluable. Got a Jeep and bought a second Haynes manual. Used it to keep my 91 Jeep Wrangler in top running condition. Used it to replace the belt, hoses, radiator and the exhaust system. Again, invaluable! My original Jeep is still on the road but I sold it when...

2.0 out of 5 stars THUMBS DOWN!!
There are too many years included in this book. There are hundreds of minor (and not so minor) differences in makes of jeeps over the years. Every year is different and the technology has changed. I could not even find some of the simplest things I needed to know when looking under the hood of my '02 Wrangler Sport. What an incredibly frustrating experience (you car...

I could not even find some of the simplest things I needed to know when looking under the hood of my '02 Wrangler Sport. What an incredibly frustrating experience (you car fixers know what I mean!!!) What a waste of my time. What a waste of my money.

I am going to try to get my hands on a dealer/mechanics book.

3.0 out of 5 stars The usual Haynes manual, May 14, 2007

This review is from: Jeep Wrangler 1987-2003 All Models (Haynes Manuals) (Paperback)
Nothing new and exciting for this edition. In fact, most of the content wasn't even related to the '03 model (which I have and need a book on). I would recommend picking up a different book if you really need to know the newer technology on Wranglers.

3.0 out of 5 stars A valuable Jeep Wrangler resource, October 30, 2009

I have had Haynes manuals before, so I trusted that this one for our recently purchased 1999 Wrangler would be a good resource. And it is as expected, with 2 caveats: 1) that you don't mind wading through perhaps half of this repair manual that does not apply to your Wrangler(covering 15 model years is a bit much!); and 2) that you also buy a 19xx Owner's Manual specific to your year and model along with it.

My original Jeep is still on the road but I sold it when I bought my new Jeep Wrangler in 2001. I got the manual so that I can start upgrading and maintaining my newest Jeep. I like Haynes over Chilton's manuals because they are much more detailed and leave less room for confusion. Haynes has both detailed pictures and drawings that make amateur car repair much easier and cost effective.

The manual also details the maintenance that must be done breaking it down by mileage. It tells you when you should replace the serpentine belt and hoses as well as checking fluid levels and making sure the chassis is greased. It is very detailed in the maintenance schedule.

All this being said, you may be saying to yourself, this guy is probably great a fixing cars. Well truth be told, car repairs are not my strong suit and this manual gives the do it yourselfer the best chance for success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative, January 14, 2009

There is a ton of information contained in this manual! I'm just on Chapter 1 right now, which is preventative maintenance (changing oil, filling fluids, battery maintenance, etc.). The information ranges from changing oil to adjusting engine timing, adjusting brakes, and all things in between. A great buy!

Note: NOT for Jeep owners who are looking for instructions to "4x4" their Jeep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide to TJ repairs, August 2, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Jeep Wrangler 1987-2003 All Models (Haynes Manuals) (Paperback)
Excellent guide to repairing my TJ. For instance, I had never thought twice about the admonition to disconnect ground wire to battery before working on front suspension - figured it was a safety precaution to prevent engine from starting. It's indeed a safety precaution, but not because of the motor turning over - it's to prevent the air bags on newer TJs from deploying! The front air bag sensor is in or near the steering box, and COULD deploy if struck by hammer, jack stand, etc. It's a timely AND cost savings warning - as anyone who has had to replace air bag packages can testify to!

4.0 out of 5 stars Way Better Than Chilton, September 5, 2010
By

This review is from: Jeep Wrangler 1987-2003 All Models (Haynes Manuals) (Paperback)
This is the repair manual to have on hand for the DIYer. The book guided me through a tune up, fuel filter change, and it helped me to understand how to let down the soft-top on my 92 YJ. My next project may be the suspension, and I will be sure to consult this guide before I proceed. I say this book is way better than the Chilton guide because it seemed much easier to read and follow. As you saw above, I just learned to do tune-ups so I do not at all claim to be a mechanical wiz, and this book was able to guide me through that project with ease. I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars because if you have a used Jeep, then you may find that the previous owner's modifications may not be described or diagnosed in the book (no fault of the Haynes folks). If you are looking at this review, you are probably new to the JEEP world...join a club and happy trails!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Jeep Owners, September 18, 2008
This review is from: Jeep Wrangler 1987-2003 All Models (Haynes Manuals) (Paperback)
I recently inherited a 1987 Jeep Wrangler that some would say made a better yard ornament than a vehicle. I needed a resource to get me started on the restoration process and found the Haynes Jeep Wrangler 1987-2003 manual to be in invaluable source of information. This Haynes Manual has become my 'bible' for nearly every step of my new found endeavor. The manual is well written with detailed, clear, illustrations for each component of this vehicle. I would highly recommend this "must have" manual for the Jeep enthusiast.
