5.0 out of 5 stars Alternative country...Texas style!
Bruce Robison is probably one of the best singer/songwriters out there. He stands alone from his brother Charlie and his sister-in-law Emily (Dixie Chicks). He has proven his songwriting abilities through numerous songs recorded by other arists (including Tim McGraw's "Angry All The Time", included on this CD).

3.0 out of 5 stars A little twangy for me...
I bought this CD for the song "Angry all the Time" after I heard Tim McGraw and Faith Hill preform it in concert. Needless to say, the rest of the album is not nearly as melodic as this track, and I was disappointed in most of the other songs. They seemed a little harsh on the ears, far from today's conventional country music. While I'm sure Mr. Robison has...

5.0 out of 5 stars Alternative country...Texas style!, April 27, 2002
This review is from: Wrapped (Audio CD)
Bruce Robison is probably one of the best singer/songwriters out there. He stands alone from his brother Charlie and his sister-in-law Emily (Dixie Chicks). He has proven his songwriting abilities through numerous songs recorded by other arists (including Tim McGraw's "Angry All The Time", included on this CD).

Bruce starts the album off with "Rayne, Louisiana," a duet with his brother about leaving the small town for the city. "Wrapped" is a catchy love-song, basically about love at first sight, time and time again. "Angry All The Time" is much better than McGraw's version, and "When I Loved You", a duet with his wife Kelly Willis, is about ignorance of love until after the fact.

"My Brother and Me," probably the highlight of the album, is sang like an autobiography--and for all I know, it is! "Desperately" as a haunting melody, but "12 Bar Blues" comes out swinging honkey-tonk style. "Go To Your Heart" stands out on the album, for it is a slow ballad of love. "I Dream Too" is uplifting, but "End Like That" brings you back to Earth, for it asks why couldn't a relationship end in a better way? The final two tracks, "Don't You ever Call My Name" and "See You Around" are bluegrass songs, and make a nice ending.

I know that was long and probably boring, but I had to explain the CD song-for-song so you could know the range of moods and themes it carries. Bruce Robison is like no other, able to place words exactly where they are needed, then use his voice to reach out and grab your heart for dear life. Buy this CD. There's no way in Heaven or Hell that you won't be moved by it.

4.0 out of 5 stars An refreshingly "anti-Nashville" country album, April 23, 2000
This review is from: Wrapped (Audio CD)
With all the pop oriented dreck coming out of Nashville these days, Robison's "Wrapped" is a like a breath of fresh air. The title track is the best song and was redone to even better effect by Robison's wife (Kelly Willis) on her "What I Deserve" album. Willis also provides a duet with Robison on "When I Loved You" and backing vocals on the melancholy marital troubles ballad "Angry All the Time." Also excellent is "My Brother and Me," an autobiographical song that has very clever lyrics. Overall, a very good album that's a couple of great tracks short of a classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best CD I've bought in a long time., July 23, 1999

I got this album six months ago and I still can't get it out of my CD player. The honesty of these songs and Bruce's soothing vocal are addicting. The sincerety and skill of Bruce's song writing are unmatched in country music today. It's too bad he doesn't get the publicity he deserves because millions of music fans are missing out.

Bruce Robison is quickly becoming one of my favorite country artist and this album is one reason why. "My Brother & Me" is my favorite track on this album, but is by no means the only one you'll want to listen to over and over. Excellent for anyone who enjoys good music. Also, check out Charlie Robison, Bruce's brother, if you like this album.

this is an amazing disc. Try to find the original release of this album, by the same title, that has 2 tracks not included on this version. Still a great addition to any music collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Awesome Music from Bruce!, January 20, 2000

This CD is one of my favorites of all time! There are very few that you can buy and honestly say that you like every song on it and this is one of those CD's. It definitely one of my first picks to put in the CD player at home and on trips. Bruce's songs and lyrics touch the heart of anyone who listens and you don't have to be a country music fan to enjoy him. Between he and his wife Kelly and his brother Charlie - what a family! I wonder if they would like to adopt?

I have owned this CD for over a year, ever since first hearing "Angry all the Time", and I play it all the time! I have listened to many, many albums (both country and rock) and this definitely in my Top 10 of all time. Bruce is so honest, sincere, and talented. I really recommend this CD.

I love this CD, I had to have it after the first time I heard "Angry All The Time" on the radio. I was pleasantly suprised to thoroughly enjoy each track on the CD. I hear something new each time I listen to it. Bruce Robison is truly blessed with his songwriting ability and his vocal style. It feels like he's playing music for only you right in your own front yard. It would be a shame for him not to be a huge star. Love it, love it, love it.

This CD has become a bit of a touchstone for me. No matter my mood -- happy or sad, contemplative or energized -- this is the CD I play. The structure of his songs is so unadorned that at first they seem simple, but then you hear the details of the lyrics and the nuances of the harmonies and it just grows on you! This man deserves to be a big star.
