Inspiring Style!,
By
This review is from: Wrapped in Crochet (Paperback)
This is an amazing book filled with new insight and style to a very old craft. I am new at crocheting and I have to admit unless a new concept with new patterns and designs came up I probably would not have been inspired enough to do so. Her patterns are gorgeous! She makes me want to learn all there is about crocheting! I love the fact that she has "mini" stories about how she came up with her new ideas!!

I think Kristin came from Minnesota and settled for awhile in Israel where she learned to crochet so while I've never met her, we seem to have crossed paths. Judging from her other published patterns I was afraid this book might be difficult so I was happily surprised to find so many I will enjoy making. There seems to be a scarcity of crocheted shawl patterns that are attractive and this book really fills a need. The yarns are easy to find or substitute and the stitches not difficult but also fascinating as she is interested in geometric forms such as spirals, triangles, etc. She has good instructions for the hairpin lace scarf. Her triangle motif square shawl is beautiful and looks very easy for the beginner. I like her lacy cardi-wrap with sleeves. Another easy one is the medallion triangular shawl. All the instructions are written out and charted with helpful notes and a nice intro explaining the background to the design. One of her specialties is working spirals into her shawls. There are also wraps, a ruana and several scarves. Several pages in the back explain the stitches used with illustrations. There is also a glossary, index and list of yarn resources. Book is well produced with nice color photos, good print and while the binding is regular, the oversize paperback will lay flat. Highly recommended to all crocheters: don't miss this one whatever your skill levels.

Didn't like,

I was so excited to get this book in my hands because I love crochet. I only liked one pattern in it. The styles in the book just weren't my speed. I don't go out in evening gowns too often, so I don't really need a shawl that fancy. Also, if you're a crocheter, and you like doing dtr and tr's to the nth height, this is your book. The designer really loves her spiral shapes, so many of these shawls/wraps are based on that Nautilus-style pattern. I simply don't go for the kind of net-like crocheted wearable, so it's not a set of patterns I can embrace. I think this book would appeal to people who like ribbon yarns and slinky metallic yarns and who wear edgier clothes than I do.

Hook yourself a modern shawl,

I do have to say these are not old lady shawls, you will not drop into the background in these. Do not make and wear these shawls if don't want attention!! The book is well priced and full of good looking shawls and wraps. They make good use of some really expensive yarns but I think a lot of these shawls would look good made in reasonable yarns as well. Over all if you are a crocheter looking for some thing new buy this book.

Quite a good book for the average crocheter. There weren't really enough intricate patterns to pique my interest to any real degree. There were a number of designs that I would not be interested in trying.
I did like the fact that diagrams were provided alongside the written instructions, giving the option to work either way.

I haven't crocheted in a while. I'm real excited about making a beautiful ruana-style wrap..Tunisian crochet. BEAUTIFUL! I can't decide on which scarf to make for myself, they are all fabulous! Plus with Christmas around the corner, I can give a few as gifts! I'm inspired!

I raise alpacas and crochet with alpaca yarn. I fell in love with the patterns I saw in this booklet, and just had to have it. I chose the Infinity Motif Wrap, because I had some beautiful lace weight alpaca yarn I had been saving for a special project, and I knew this was it. Immediately, the pattern instructions were wrong after the 1st round on the 1st Motif was done. I realized I had to use the diagram (which, fortunately, was a complete diagram and not just a sliver) and write out the remaining rounds from 2 through 8 in order to proceed. I've just completed the 5 motifs and am hopeful the rest of the pattern has been spelled out for me so I don't have to spend so much time figuring it out. I'm hoping this was the only gliche in the book, too.
