Review

"Wrapped Up is an easy read but contains so much profound Truth. I had never considered that God has given women specific spiritual gifts (besides the obvious nurturing aspects of motherhood),and this book offers a lot of food for thought. Teresa Tomeo and Cheryl Dickow address each of the ten gifts in different voices and from different experiences.

"Cheryl writes from the perspective of a devout Catholic mother of two sons who is fascinated by the Jewish roots of Christianity, particularly the women of the Old Testament. She shares personal experience and her knowledge of the Old Testament matriarchs in a unique perspective of how modern Catholic women can learn from our ancient ancestors in faith.

"Teresa, on the other hand, is a media-savvy talk show host and well-known Catholic personality who travels the world and leads pilgrimages in various holy places. She shows us how a modern Catholic woman can truly find the gift of authentic femininity in our toxic culture.

"Both women share anecdotes of their personal faith journeys and relate them to each of the ten gifts. My favorite chapter was the one on The Gift of Suffering. Both Cheryl and Teresa wrote convincing essays, avoiding cliches and sentimentalism, to show us how suffering can indeed be a gift—not an easy task!

I highly recommend Wrapped Up: God's Ten Gifts for Women and the companion journal to Catholic women in any phase of life or spiritual development."—Peggy Bowes, blogger and author, The Rosary Workout; coauthor, Tending the Temple

"God’s feelings toward women have long been misunderstood—even among Christians. Wrapped Up beautifully clarifies the searing biblical truth that God is the first lover and liberator of all women."—Meg Meeker, M.D., author of the national bestseller,Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters: Ten Secrets Every Father Should Know

"In Wrapped Up: God’s Ten Gifts for Women, the authors’ unique voices and perspectives combine beautifully to offer rare gifts to today’s modern woman: inspiration, support, and encouragement. By highlighting our unique feminine gifts and strengths, Wrapped Up encourages women everywhere to recognize how much we have to offer our families and communities in a wounded, broken world. Every woman deserves to ‘unwrap’ a gift like that!"—Danielle Bean, author of Small Steps for Catholic Moms

For just under two weeks, each evening I spent some quiet time with this new book by Teresa and Cheryl. A summary statement? I'm sorry that I came to the end of WRAPPED UP -- I so much enjoyed the real-world experiences and stories and lessons shared by these two women. And for those that don't know them, the authors are gifts to the Church. I hope they don't mind that I compare them, in a sense to St.'s Peter and Paul. So different, but so wonderfully paired in this new effort. I could write about all the Ten Gifts discussed in the book - but I'll pick just one: FORGIVENESS. In this chapter, Cheryl shares her lovely, lovely tender story ripped right off the pages of my confession list - forgiving another when I shouldn't have to. And Teresa -- dear Mrs. Type A Teresa -- a story of the challenge of marital forgiveness framed against Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.

I recommend this easy-to-read and inviting set of reflections on Ten Gifts from God. And I recommend this book to guys as a gift for your spouse, or someone in your family or a significant other. Maybe combine the book purchase with the workbook idea so that ladies can meet over coffee or tea and do a chapter at a time while working on their experiences with the Ten Gifts.

Blessings. Enjoy.

Deacon Tom

I loved this book. I especially liked the format of first hearing Cheryl's experience and then Teresa's. This showed to me that God has many different ways/views of giving women the many gifts that are unique to women. It made me feel proud and empowered to be a woman and to rededicate my unique and special gifts that have been given to me from my creator during my pilgrimage here on earth. We need more books out there celebrating women instead of as Teresa states "always telling us what we aren't" in this culture that destroys the very beautiful things that make up our dreams, hearts and souls and instead focuses on the empty, superficial, worldly views in our culture today, which, I believe, destroys the very essence of women today. Thank you both for sharing your personal stories and offering hope to all of us women out here.

This book has been shared with my friends rediscovering their Catholic faith because of its reflection on women's spirituality. These vignettes have help all of us slow down and reset our priorities with our marriage, family and multiple communities.
It highlights our hunger living in the secular world.

The title of Teresa Tomeo and Cheryl Dickow's new book, "Wrapped Up" refers to our being "wrapped up" in God's love. That can be a hard concept for us women to accept. After all, the world spends a lot of time telling us all the reasons why we are not lovable. God's love for us is His greatest gift. Tomeo and Dickow are on a mission to challenge the message that the world has for women and replace that with the truth of what God is offering. "That [a woman] ought to be filled with God's love simply because she is his creature tends to be a notion that doesn't fit well with the `doer' in her personality. But unless she receives, she cannot give."

God offers us many wonderful gifts and blessings. Dickow and Tomeo have chosen to focus on the following ten: love, forgiveness, allowing God to be God, a joyful attitude, suffering, letting go, sacramental life, sisters in faith, setting priorities, and the gift of ourselves. For each gift, the two writers each offer their own reflections, Timeless Truths, and Timeless Takeaways.

The writers willingly share the gift of themselves, including their own personal stories and various areas of expertise. Dickow shares the challenge of living with chronic illness, parenting and career ups and downs. Well-known for her knowledge of Scripture and Jewish traditions, she includes role models from Scripture and elements of the Jewish faith to enhance our understanding of God's gifts and promises. Tomeo includes her own return to the Catholic faith, difficulties in her marriage, and her own career challenges in the world of media.

Dickow and Tomeo invite women to refocus their lives on Who matters and what matters. They speak the truth, and acknowledge that life is often hard. The chapter on suffering is particularly poignant.
