I bought this cookbook expecting it to have a few fun, easy recipes for wraps that I could toss together with stuff I had around the kitchen. Although the recipes and certainly the pictures look delicious, fun and easy they're not. It's not uncommon for recipes to have over a dozen ingredients. When I want to toss together a little lunch, I don't have time to track down 1/4 cup chopped pickled ginger or 2 cups cooked jasmine rice or 1/4 teaspoon orange oil. I have yet to make a single recipe from this book, despite having owned it for over nine months.

I do a lot of hiking & bike riding, and I bought this book to get some ideas for lunches that I could make in the morning and take with me. As for the previous review's comments, this book does have some recipes with unusual ingredients, but most are easily found in an average grocery store. This book does not promise to be a pantry-cookbook (in other words, you may not have all the ingredients on hand). What it does deliver is many great recipes for wraps. Some of my favorites are the "Pizza Pie" wrap, "Ice Cream wrapwich" and the Ceasar wrap (called "Render unto caesar"). Give this book a try and I think you will find several if not many recipes that you will want to make again and again.

Buy This Cookbook!,

I love everything about this cookbook and read it cover to cover. There are many vegetarian recipies and all the recepies can be made low fat with substitutions (for example, low fat sour cream instead of regular). The photos are beautiful and the writing is witty. You can try several of the recipies without expensive start-up costs and I made one right away with ingredients I had on hand. A delightful cookbook with great ideas I will be using for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

For all you "wraps" lovers out there (as in the adulteration of food by combining all kinds of stuff and putting them in fancy or plain tortillas . . . as in we used to call them burritos!) read on!Wraps, Easy Recipes for Handheld Meals by Mary Corpening Barber, Sara Corpening and Lori Lyn Narlock, published by Chronicle Books in San Francisco is filled with wonderful recipes that are indeed truly easy to make. They include breakfast, lunch, dinner and yes, even dessert wraps. (I can't wait to try one of the dessert ones! I love anything in a tortilla!) Last night, I made "King Creole," a tribute to my Cajun past and it was awesome! Beautiful color photographs by Frankie Frankeny accompany many of the recipes. My kitchen cabinet had most of the ingredients (although I had to run out and buy onion powder and bay leaves) and flavored tortillas are available at a number of specialty grocery stores. Of course, plain flour tortillas can be used on all of the recipes. You ought to have seen me dancing around the kitchen last night as I gleefully declared, "I MADE A WRAP!" Bon Appetit! Vickie

Excellent book for a newbie at wraps!,
This review is from: Wraps: Easy Recipes for Handheld Meals (Paperback)
I just received this book today, and I enjoyed the vibrant pictures that accompanied this book. I did not even start to think which one I should try making first, I think it might be the "This Lox Rocks" one (you'll see what I mean when you see the picture for this one). I give this book 4 stars, only because I wished it had pictures for every recipe. I know that might be too much to ask, but I am a beginner, and I would like to see pictures with every recipe, just to make me feel more at ease. Nonetheless, this is a super-duper book and I suggest those of you that would like to add a nice addition to your recipe collection to go ahead and buy it. Great for little get-togethers at home, dinner parties, and just every day eating. Great Buy for just $10.97 too!!!!!

Fun book,

This has a fun, international and cuisine-style selection, but with minimal exotic-ingredient searching. Sometimes I even make the recipes - dare I say it - without the wrap. Sometimes you want a cookbook that has authentic, exotic recipes, but other times you want a fun, easy way to sample basic versions of different style food - Creole, Thai, German, French, South American, Jamaican, etc.

Pretty, But Disappointing,
By
This review is from: Wraps: Easy Recipes for Handheld Meals (Paperback)
The photography is beautiful, but the title is misleading if you equate 'easy' with 'quick' or 'convenient'. This book has some wonderful recipes that would be great for a brunch or other planned get-together, but it is totally unsuited as a guide for your average take-along meal. Most of the wraps don't travel well, although they are good when eaten immediately after being made, and many of the recipes can be fairly time-consuming. The best recipes are in the breakfast section - if you have time to make them, the Apple Jack wraps are great for feeding a busy family as they rush out the door on a weekday morning. Hot oatmeal on the go!

This is a great book, I made a few recipies in it and really I only had one wrap that turned out bad. Other than that, everything in this book is really easy to make and from what I've had, the food has been excellent.

The book is excellent, but the vendor has managed to leave quite a few of his/her marks on it. I supposedly bought a "like new" copy, but "much much shabbily used" would be more like it.
The recipes themselves are adventurous, versatile and achievable. |
