3.0 out of 5 stars Eh.
I don't like this game much. I suppose it's worth $4, but it's definitely not phenomenal. Like Ninja Gaiden, only significantly less fun. Also, the ninja is purple for some reason...
You'd be better off getting a more fun NES game such as Xevious or Ice Climbers or something for $4.

this game used to be the most fun game ever to play....there's never been a game like it...you of course have to know how to play...this game is an RPG mixed with ninja action. children have been kidnapped in the mean streets and a bada-- ninja wants to save them and take town the crime boss...the first level is simple...and after a while you discover how to get to the children...but as the game progresses it gets more and more challeging, and the boss is very hard to beat even if you know how to bet him. Aside from it being fun to play it has an interresting storyline, I remember when I was young not only playing this with my peers, but acting it out as if it were a game of tag and dressing up as the black mantia for one halloween.to some it all up this game is a forgotten classic, and lots of fun for all ages. it was fairly well liked when it first came out, but people just forgot about it. however if you are to buy this game, I would say the chances are 19 out of 20 that you will like it if you learn how to play it :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Eh.. A so so game, August 13, 2011

This review is from: Wrath of the Black Manta (Video Game)
This game isn't that bad, it has a bad rep., but it's not too bad. The graphics aren't as good as other games I've played that came out in 1989, but they're doable. When I first played it, I thought it was some kind of Ninja Gaiden ripoff, but it kind of has it's own spin of a ninja game, mixed with a RPG game. One thing I can guarantee when you play this is that you are gonna be asking yourself ever five minutes "Where the hell am I suppose to go?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and Fun Game to Play., July 11, 2011

Wrath of the Black Manta is among a handful of games selected for the worst NES games played. I disagree, and I think it is an underrated and easy game to play. That is, if you take the time to understand a bit about how the game works, it is actually fun to play. Almost all of the bosses are pretty easy to beat except for Tiny and Totem. I beat this game first time in one sitting. It didn't take that long at all due to lots of lives and credits. Here are my strategies in how to beat it:

Part 1: Make sure to find the door that you can enter to fight three men in a room. Always walk to left, hit the first two, and turn around to finish off the third without getting hit, so you can get 8 blocks of hit points. Always do this every time. Continually doing it for the entire time will ensure you a simple defeat of the game. Always check the walls on far left and right sides of every big level room to attack on it and see if there is a secret passage. Almost always this will happen. Nearly each time will be done by crouching down. After a while for many of other parts, you will soon see that the game is fairly repetitive. Use the Shadow to hit Tiny's chin. He is a very tough boss, but the rest of the bosses along the way is much easier. While playing in this part and also the other parts, always make sure to test all Arts to understand how each works and decide which is useful to you and not.

Part 2: Invisibility is learned from Part 1 which is arguably the most useful Art of the game, and I credit it for making the entire game being too easy to beat. Make sure to make a full use of it at all times. It will save you tons of hit points and from unwanted battles. Use the Fire Rings to take out the first flying villain and take his magic flying carpet. The Totem, at end for Boss fight, is a bit difficult to beat, but make sure to constantly use the Invisibility. When there is one totem pole left, be sure to be on the far end of where the totem pole is to defeat it a bit more easily.

Part 3: In my opinion, the rest of the game from hereon is just too easy. The Boss at the end, the Voodoo Doll, gets my vote for being so darned simple that you can defeat it blindfolded.

Part 4: The Robots at the end, just use Invisibility constantly and you win.

Part 5: The last part of the game, quite simple. Let's talk about the final Boss. Remember in a paper, you are to use four different Arts. So, pretty much, use the Fire Bomb and make sure it hits him. Then, use the Fire Ring for 2nd hit. Now, use the Shadow and go within the blocks underneath and be on the far right side. Finally, use two Missiles on the boss to win the game.

All in all, believe me, Wrath of the Black Manta is just easy to beat, but it's a good fun game although.

1.0 out of 5 stars ninjas that don't rock, February 20, 2010

ninjas always rock. it's a scientific fact. this game is not science. i bought this game knowing full well how bad it was. it was a novelty purchase. some games are so terrible they become quite entertaining. from the campy dialogue, to the unclear objectives, and to the run, jump, shoot ninja stars mechanic, this game is bad. where is the kitana sword? not here. the story line is......who cares. ninjas should do awesome flips and throught punching, and slice through enemies with a sword. should one purchase this game? no. unless you are like me and like to watch trainwrecks.
