Post-punk revival is over--long live the post-punk revival!, August 6, 2005
This review is from: Wrath of Circuits (Audio CD)
Do you like Franz Ferdinand but don't like to dance? Do you like obscure post-punk gems from the early 80's but like to live in the 00's? Well, have I got the band for you, Pedro! The Nein are spiky, angular and noisy in the vein of "Chairs Missing"-era Wire or early Birthday Party without any of the proto-goth embellishments. The guitars buzz and roar, the keyboards are all kind of weird, the drums are precise yet raw and the vocalist sounds a bit like a young Elvis Costello (I crap you negative!). Also, it's a bargain! The (used) copy I bought on Amazon came to under 5 bucks including s&h. I should also mention that the last time I checked (please note the date of this review) the band's label, Sonic Unyon, was streaming the entire album on its website (I somehow can't seem to recall the name--hmm--but the word "sonicunyon" is involved). Happy hunting!
