Good Enough!,
By En Sabah Nur (Philly, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wrath (Deluxe) (Audio CD)
For the past month I've been reading early reviews of this album, and it has been getting a mixed reception. To be honest, I place this album in between Sacrament and Ashes of the Wake. It's still got a raw sound (nothing like their earlier stuff) and it has the "radio-friendly" sound of Sacrament. I know this is going to dissappoint die-hard fans of their earlier albums. I classify myself as one of those fans, but I'm not dissappointed at all. The sad fact is that bands evolve. This is far less of a dissappointment like The Haunted's latest effort..... ugh. We live in a terrible time where bands just can't seem to hold on to what made them amazing, and they lose their overall brutal sound. Wrath holds onto that quality well enough. As far as I'm concerned, nothing will ever be as great as Ashes of the Wake, or As the Palaces Burns (which would be their best album if the recording quality was up to par with Ashes), but Wrath will definately stay in my cd player for the next month or so. It's a solid album and worth a chance. I can tell it's one of those albums that needs to grow on you. I will always support LOG and in my eyes, they are one of the most consistent metal bands out there.

Awesome Album, Amazing band,
By metalman69 (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wrath (Audio CD)
This review can really apply to any of this awesome band's albums. First of all I might comment that they do have a somewhat odd name, which is certainly NOT reflective of the terrifying brutality of their music, and especially where some mindless souls can actually be misled. I can't forget reading a weird review somewhere by some poor idiot who picked up one of their CDs because he thought they were a 'Christian metal band'(!), but was horribly disillusioned because 'the singer sounded too angry to love Jesus...' - kind of sad yet hilarious at the same time. Anyway to get to the bottom line, which is their music, it kicks major a**!. If you like your metal done hard, heavy and brutal, this band is an ideal starting point. Definitely one of the most QUALITY American metal bands of the new millennium! I've heard about the comparisons to Pantera, whose influence I've definitely detected in their music, yet while listening further, I've also heard strong influences from every other metal genre that ever turned me on! This includes thrash metal with traces of 80's Metallica, Slayer, Exodus and others, as well as death metal reminiscent of most major brutal death metal pioneers of the 90's (Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Death etc. etc.) in addition to their own unique style of course. In other words, a mish-mash of everything good from the world of extreme metal. Vocalist Randy Blythe both screams and growls, which I consider quite unique and very well done. The guitars are meaty, sharp, ultra-distorted and just plain HEAVY. Although I would appreciate some more guitar solos, the overall structure of their sound doesn't make you miss them very much. As a long-time metal fan, I must admit that I have recently 'discovered' Lamb of God's music after which I promptly added their entire CD output to my music collection, and I'm glad that I did!. The way it looks now, these guys will definitely not let you down. Metal fans, pick up 'Wrath' or any of their earlier albums with confidence, crank'em up and enjoy!

Good but Lamb Of God hasn't progressed,
This review is from: Wrath [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
This is a good release from a band that gets a lot of negative criticism for sparking the new American metal movement. I have always enjoyed this band and their previous releases. Wrath is a good album but it doesn't progress much from Sacrament and it sounds like a typical Lamb Of God release. This isn't necessarily bad but some people may get tired of their repetitive sounds. I do not get tired of this band though. I can recommend this album to old and new Lamb Of God fans alike. It may not be as good as their Burn The Priest days but it certainly isn't bad.
I gave the album a 4 our of 5 as the band has stuck with their formula for a long time now. Many bands in the metal genre do this just so they don't alienate their fanbase. This is fine but I prefer it when bands naturally progress and their sound changes (even if the change is slight).

Solid but not as good as thier prior 2 stuff,
By CRV "CRV" (New York City) - See all my reviews

Prior to "Ashes of the Wake" you knew what you were getting from LOG which is an your face hardcore sound with awesome new school thrash guitar riffs and Randy's relentless vocals. Up to this point all of their albums had many signature songs that you can bang your head to. "Ashes of the Wake" represented their milestone great album where all the songs were catchy and aggressive resulting in one signature winnner after another that will live in infamy. "Sacrament" was a slight decline with not as many catchy homerun singles but, still had a couple of winners like "Walk with me in Hell" and "Redneck".. I can't find one signature single in this album that I can call a true winner.. I dont hear the same edge that they had in their prior stuff, it just seems bland in comparison. Certain songs have their moments but, they never reach that great climax we come to expect from LOG.. nevertheless a solid album but, not up to standard. I guess LOG finally hit their wall where they've gone as far as they can go or maybe their trying to hard to reinvent themselves that they lost their edge? I'll give this 3-1/2 stars.

Lamb of God Does It Again !,
This review is from: Wrath (Deluxe) (Audio CD)
I'm quite an avid Lamb of God fan; however, I found Sacrament to be a bit too slow and mainstream. Oh yes, it's a great album... but the ferociousness of Ashes of the Wake and As the Palaces Burn was lacking. This album, while a little different, returns to the fast, and viscous crawl that the earlier albums had (excluding American Gospel, which is another beast in its own right). It also begins the best. Anyone who listens to metal will easily be reminded of Metallica's Fight Fire With Fire... the beginning of Ride the Lightning. Like the previously mentioned track, this album begins with acoustic bliss that is slammed into your face at the coming of "In Your Words." All in all, while not their greatest achievement, "Wrath" is surely worth your time and money. A must-have!

Solid Album With Variety,

While Ashes of the Wake remains my favorite LoG album to date, Wrath holds it's own. It may be my new second favorite, displacing Sacrament. It begins with an instrumental track that starts with acoustic guitar and morphs into a light groove of metal goodness. The second track hits hard and is more what you might expect from LoG. The rest of the album is basically typical LoG with a bit more variety. The last track is a pleasant surprise. The deluxe edition includes a second CD containing separate MP3 tracks for guitar, bass, drums, and vocals for each song so you can experiment with re-mixing. Very cool. Highly recommended new album (2009).

LOG's Best Next To Ashes!!!,
By Mussolini (Berkeley, CA) - See all my reviews

Wrath is an excellent album. Randy's best vocal work, period. If you like metal, real metal, you'll love this album. It is straight forward with great riffs and focused song writing. It is a lot better than Sacrament and the production is simpler, which allows the band to truly shine with their instruments. Reclamation is the song the band's been trying to write for their last track. It is an absolute monster!

Nice and Heavy... Music to give old people heart attacks,
By Windin Thetrees (Minnesota, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wrath (Audio CD)
I'm a big Lamb of God fan and I have all their previous albums, so I think it's fair for me to say this one is right up there with their best. "Fake Messiah", "Contractor"," Choke Sermon", and "Reclamation" are favorite songs so far. This CD is seriously heavy for those of you who like it that way. Blythe's demonic voice, the deep ripping guitars and deafening drums combine for that heavy sound you dream about in your best nightmares.
This band saved American Metal, you're obligated to give them a listen if you haven't. If you like it heavy, you won't regret it.

Their Best?,
By Gentlegiantprog "Kingcrimsonprog" (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wrath (Deluxe) (Audio CD)
Wrath is Lamb of God's sixth full length studio album. Picking up where Sacrament left off and adding a lot more speed, some more acoustic bits here and there and a lot of straight up metal riffs, the album is a triumph from beginning to end.
Randy's incredible vocals are particularly strong on this new album, in fact he has never sounded better as he Shouts, Screams or Talks (in that creepy Phil Anselmo way) his way through the album with many more voices and sounds than on previous albums. The lyrics are similarly stronger than on previous releases in addition to the vocal patterns being some of the strongest the band have had to date making this album Randy's tour de force. The production is also superb, the guitar tone is the perfect mixture of clarity and heaviness, the drums are all audible and professional and all the vocals and instruments just gel perfectly. Lamb of God may be espoused by the kind of people who overuse the word `Brutal,' and Journalists who like to uses phrases like `Guitars that melt your face off,' or `Listening to this will ACTUALLY kill your Grandmother,' but that shouldn't detract from your enjoyment of what has to be one of the most exciting and enjoyable Metal bands out there. Their musicianship is of such a high standard, every member is an expert at their instrument and no one feels like a weak link, the bass is better than you would expect, the guitar solos are musical and have a more classic rock feel to them than you'd expect, the riffs are entertaining as hell and the drumming is particularly impressive. The album has a lot of variety from the clean, dual guitar harmony featuring opener, to the super hard and fast `Grace,' and the mixture of twisting build ups and straight metal of `Broken Hands,' to the very diverse album closer `Reclamation,' you'll never be bored by samey songs or one dimensional riffing. Wrath is an excellent mixture of the catchy and politically charged style of Ashes of The Wake and the brooding, dark and ultra professional style of Sacrament; with songs like the unbelievably catchy `Contractor,' discussing the situation in the middle east to the sound of a fast, chuggy verse with groove metal choruses, sitting alongside the dark and atmospheric closer `Reclamation,' with a more biblical/flood theme and a mixture of acoustic guitar interludes, slow building post rock passages and good old fashion metal finishing the album in style. Wrath is an absolute joy to listen to, its one of the best albums of 2009 and its one of the best Lamb of God albums out there. Highly Recommended. |
