5.0 out of 5 stars Probably not Watts' best, but...
Raymond Watts, the guy behind Pig, is one of the rare people in an artistic field who turns to gold everything he touches. Witness: KMFDM, who with Watts as frontman turned out some very good tunes, and without Watts generally wound up doing cheesy and formulaic self-parody. This album, Pig's most recent (though it wouldn't be if Black Brothel would ever get done)...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's not their best- but it is <pig>.
I've followed Pig for a while- honestly, I would recommend 'Praise the Lard' over this album. However, PTL is sort of hard to find anymore- and most industrial junkies are too broke to afford buying a ton of imports like I've done. So I definitely would recommend Pig as a band you should encounter- and this album is as good a starting point as Sinsation.

Raymond Watts, the guy behind Pig, is one of the rare people in an artistic field who turns to gold everything he touches. Witness: KMFDM, who with Watts as frontman turned out some very good tunes, and without Watts generally wound up doing cheesy and formulaic self-parody. This album, Pig's most recent (though it wouldn't be if Black Brothel would ever get done) probably isn't his best. I don't know what his best is, since I have yet to have heard his entire back catalogue (I am woefully Swining-less). However, not Watts' best is still better than anything else. A great combination of electro-industrial, heavy geetar and bombastic orchestral sweeps comprises the Pig sound in these post-Sinsation days. And what a sound it is. Best songs on this album: Book Of Tequila, (unfortunately not on the American version of the album) Save Me, Fuck Me I'm Sick (also not on the US release), and the remakes of Blades and My Sanctuary. The only real low points are the redo of Find It Fuck It Forget It (having not heard the original, I can only judge it to the Sump mix on No One Gets Out of Her Alive and the live version on the Painiac single-- it is inferior to both) and the title track, which drags on a little too much. Still really really good stuff though. Why Watts hasn't become a mainstream superstar is beyond me, since second-rate hacks like Marilyn Manson have no problem doing it. Oh well. All the better for the elitist in me.

This is the first CD from Pig that I was introduced to, and in my opinion, it happens to be his best. After listening to every track - and I do mean every track...this is one of those CDs that can spin through my CD player all day without me getting tired of it - I was prompted to set out and attempt to buy as much Pig merchandise as I could get my hands on. I've read from several people that they don't understand why Raymond Watts isn't big here in America, and honestly, I don't know why either. Although you couldn't fit him in with Trent Reznor's *current* style of music, you could definitely fit Wrecked in with The Downward Spiral in terms of tormented vocals, amazingly diverse lyrics (check out Sanctuary if you get the chance), and wonderful usage of layered electronics altogether. Even though he's popular in Japan, he deserves a lot more recognition in the states.

If Wrecked just so happens to be your first taste of the Lard as well, I suggest venturing over to Genuine American Monster and Sinsation next. If you're unsure whether this CD is worth the buy or even the listen, I strongly recommend three of the end tracks, Blades (Slash Mix), Find It F. It Forget It (Sump Mix), and Sanctuary (Spent Sperm Mix) to aid in turning your ear to one of the greatest industrial artists out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raymond Watts is the Lard, March 13, 2001

This review is from: Wrecked (Audio CD)
There's several people you must know if you consider yourself a true alternative music fan. One of them is Raymond Watts, the guy behind Pig and one of the guys behind KMFDM. Watts is a great musician. What I find so interesting about Pig is the fact that he does such dark, twisted songs with such upbeat music. Witness No One Gets Out of Her Alive, which sounds like something you'd hear on a modern rock station, but it's got such dark lyrics (it's sort of about satanism) that it would never get played on the radio. His instrumentals are also something else, like Silt on this disc. Other songs worth mentioning are Comtempt, Save Me, and the infamous Find It, F*** It, Forget It. Another thing to mention is Watts' attention to detail and is deep, brutal voice that makes Marilyn Manson sound like Ricky Martin. This is the perfect CD to give to anyone who thinks Limp Bizkit and Manson are edgy. Anything by Pig will scare fans of those bands straight ...

This album was once again, a perfect set of songs. If you like this CD, then I strongly suggest that you look into Raymonds new album under the name Watts. For more info, check out the Sick City message board.

PS: WW3 was the best performance I've had the privilage to attend!

I would have to say that this is the best industrial album...well...ever. A brilliant mixing of all things electronic and filth-laden. A soundtrack for every human (or should I say swine's) own personal apocalypse.

5.0 out of 5 stars A friend of the devil is a friend of mine, February 4, 2006
This review is from: Wrecked (Audio CD)
I have purchased 4 Pig cds, But this one is by far the best. If you only get one get this one. My favorite pig song is No One Gets Out Of Her Alive. The minute I heard that song I was frickin blown Away. The lyrics to this cd are just great. I think this cd is on equal ground with a lot of KMFDM. By the way I hope Watts gets back with them for their next CD. The sanctuary Remix is better than the Original. "two wrongs dont make right, Two blacks dont make a white" is just awsome sounding in that song.

...tis a shame. I picked up this cd by accident looking for another band called too that had the song pig on it. I was pleased to find out that i DIDNT find the crap i was looking for. And i was also Proud to own my very first <PIG> Brand title... Kinda like the feeling you get when you climb the rope in gym class. Should you buy this cd even though you haven't heard any of it? YEAH! Way.

5.0 out of 5 stars This cd from <PIG> is the future of industrial music., July 19, 1998

This review is from: Wrecked (Audio CD)
This is the best cd from Raymond Watts yet, mixing pulsing electronic beats, hard driven guitar, cool sampling, great vocals, and <PIG>'s trademark horror movie-esque orchestration. I would say this is more intense than past <PIG> albums, full of industrial driven angst and power.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid album, but not Watts' best effort., September 13, 2004
By
This review is from: Wrecked (Audio CD)
I don't hold this album with the same high regard I do for Sinsation, but nonetheless Watts did a very fine job in producing this album. Overall a very dark album with true industrial grit for the hard core fan. Remeniscent of KMFDM and Ministry at their finest, complete with some very deranged artwork. Essential tracks include "Everything," "Contempt," and "Silt."

If Raymond Watts had to have a highlight reel, this would be on it. That's because this was one of the albums where he had true freedom to play with his music, and where he had budgetary funderlands to keep him flying high in the sky. This is not to diminish the earlier works he put out under Pig like sinsation, Praise the Lard, a Pig in the Poke, some Prime Evil, and much more, or to say that he didn't give KMFDM something they have been needing without him. This is simply to praise the Pig that was really amazing when it was free to do what it wanted to do. When you listen to the album you will hear soundbites, pieces of beautiful music, and orchestras playing just for build. You will also get some dark qualities, a bit of love and a bit of jilted paradise, and so much more. I love this album - i loved it enough to follow Pig on quite a bit of its US tour.

If you need some magic, check out Blades or No one gets out of her alive. In them he basically says that he knows what the cost is of something but he takes it by the hand anyhow, and the sounds that power them are grand things. In blades, you have knives making up a cresendo of slices until they form a beat and, in No One, you have a powerful beat and a little bit of a "firend of the devil is a friend of mine." It is good stuff and is only a smapling, as the rest of the album can attest to. Go to the back of the album and you will find an orchestra playing, and the way they do things is amazing. Still, this is typical of Raymond Watts and that voice that powers through the mire of the audio mirror, making him sound like he squeals and longs all in the same moment. I love it like it loves me.

If you need more convincing, just listen to some of the sounds out there. Still, do not take a snippet for a song and do not think that a song makes an album. This is a complete work, a great work, and one that I have always thought was underrated and too often ignored. Buy it and try it on a few times because, in the end, you will love it. It has a sound all its own and goes beyond what one would think depravity could muster in tiny little lines. Combine that with a frontman that is nice enough to treat his fans like people and you have a band that is well worth supporting. Highly recommended.
