Book Description

April 13, 2010 Regan Reilly Mysteries
The book opens on Cape Cod. Regan’s husband, Jack “no relation Reilly” is one of six children. His three sisters, two brothers, and their children often gather at Jack’s parents’ vacation home on Cape Cod. Regan and Jack join the Reilly clan for a simple family vacation on the Cape; but it turns out to be something quite different.

Following on the heels of Cursed, Carol’s most successful hardcover yet, this title is written with the same “entertaining, light, and fast-paced” style (Desert Morning News) and “rambunctious…bubbly humor (Publishers Weekly”) listeners have come to expect.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In Clark's slapdash 13th mystery to feature New York City PI Regan Reilly (after 2009's Cursed), the disappearance of divorcée Adele Hopkins interrupts the plans of Regan and her husband, Jack, to celebrate their first anniversary at their weekend place on Cape Cod. During a storm, Skip, a local caretaker, finds Adele lying in a heap outside the house she's renting, her face bloody, her rowboat banging against the rocks in the nearby bay. By the time Skip returns with help, Adele is gone. As Regan and Jack aid the authorities in locating Adele's next of kin, clues surface that suggest Adele has been the victim of foul play. The two co-owners of the boutique Pillow Talk, who knew Adele as one of their best customers, offer Regan and Jack an important lead, while a visiting theatrical troupe lends a bizarre plot twist. Clark's easy humor will please cozy fans, but Regan's unconvincing eureka moment and the villain's lack of a credible motive disappoint. (Apr. 13)

5.0 out of 5 stars The book is WRECKED, but you won't be!, April 14, 2010
By
Once again, Carol Higgins Clark has produced a funny, quirky and enjoyable read for the quick mystery lover. It's fast paced and upbeat and the characters are so well described, they will immediately bring to mind someone you have in your own life. I have read every one of the Regan Reilly series and one thing I've noticed: they get better and better. My only complaint is there is only one a year and I finished it much too fast; couldn't put it down.

No, these are not as intense as some other types of mysteries but that's what makes them fun and unique. You, the reader, feel like you are the nosy but well intentioned friend or neighbor who just wants to know what's going on. The different twists and turns keep you guessing, and sometimes even laughing, but always interested.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrecked? You bet!, July 17, 2010

The title of this book is certainly appropriate-WRECKED--for that is what this book is.

I suffered through this book to the half way point and almost gave it up, but continued on. I agree with the other person who gave this book one star.

WRECKED is WRECKED---trite, plotless plot and there were a few grammatical errors.

A friend loaned this book to me and the only good thing about it was that I didn't spend one cent on it.

Don't bother with it, there are better books out there.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wrecked in Content, June 17, 2010
I've read all of the Regan Reilly mystery series and this is by far the weakest of Clark's works. To say that the characters are a stretch unbelievable would be an understatement. And on the subject of characters, Megan has all but disappeared. She is barely present throughout and her dialogue is minimal.her husband,Jack, plays a much more prominent role in moving the plot and sustaining the action. Happenstance coincidences are too numerous to maintain the customary suspension of disbelief.

Although I've always praised the author for her less graphic approach to mystery writing, I must say that the storyline lacked any real emotion or suspense. It really appeared that Ms. Clark was going through the motions of fulfilling a contractual obligation. She is capable of more and can certainly make a comeback as did Sue Grafton in her last work. Megan Reilly may need to take off more time than celebrating a wedding anniversary. She might take a hand at staying at home and raising a family while husband, Jack, continues to fight the bad guys.
