5.0 out of 5 stars Overkill,keeping it metal!, December 7, 2002
By
Brad Dunkum "Brad Dunkum" (New Canton, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This 2 dvd set is great. The first is overkill live in jersey and the sound quality is top notch. The picture is pretty good but not great but hey this isn't lord of the rings, this is live overkill footage. The concert rocked as always and these guys show that they haven't let up a bit.The second cd is conversations with the band, mostly Blitz and D.D. intertwined with small concert clips from the beginning to the present. There is also a short behind the scenes segment talking with the fans and a photo gallery with several pics.It is sad to see that more people aren't aware of this great true metal band in this trendy time we are in.Overkill does in fact have a fairly large following and they aren't supposed to appeal to the masses but they deserve a lot more attention, after all they have been around for twenty plus years.Pick this one up and find out what true metal is!.

5.0 out of 5 stars The video you've waited for, December 24, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Anyone familiar with Overkill knows that live is where they really shine. And anyone who listened to real metal (not Poison) in the '80s should know about Overkill. Unlike Metallica and Megadeth, they haven't mellowed or sold out, just continued to evolve and sharpen their metal.

This DVD is the best look at their live show that we've ever had outside the venue itself. My only complaint is that Skullcrusher wasn't one of the songs in the set.

5.0 out of 5 stars A DVD With A Lot Of Overkill - In A Good Sense, March 16, 2005
Withstanding the tests of time is Heavy Metal Thrash Icon "Overkill". Committed to their cause and rocking harder than ever some 20 years after I first saw them back at L'Amour in Brooklyn. Yes, it has been that long and what a great testament to a bands career by putting a DVD like this one out. Starting off with a concert that is literally filled with every major track that the band had released is surely going to attrack the eager fan and those who enjoy a good metal concert DVD in the first place. The great part of this DVD is that they have given you not one but two fully packed DVD's to enjoy. The first part is the full concert which runs a little over an hour and a half. It's a straight concert shoot, but there are some killer angles and close-ups. You feel like you are at the show, but out of the danger of the Mosh pit. There is not much else one can say about the concert part, as I mentioned earlier it is full of their greatest numbers. Bobby Blitz and D.D. Verni (the groups only original members) do their very best to keep the metal pure that this band plays and it shows in not only their performance but their drive.

On DVD 2 they added the bonus features. This is always the best move if you ask me. I don't like to have to sacrifice a long concert or be surfing around a lengthy menu to find things. If I was interested in the concert, I will watch that DVD, and if I want the bonus features I will review the next DVD. Diehard fans and those following the group a long time will enjoy "Batmen The Return" the most I think. It is an intimate look into the history of the group by Blitz and D.D. and contains a ton of archived footage and additional concert clips. Running over an hour, it is cool to see their thoughts on their own musical history.

Fans of old-school thrash metal will dig deep into this DVD. It's a highly recommended piece based on the fun I had watching it. Especially the documentary. It does not disappoint.
