Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-8-- This follow-up to Wren to the Rescue (Harcourt, 1990) chronicles the adventures of the apprentice magician and her pals Princess Teressa; Prince Connor, a younger son with no standing in his family; and Tyron, an older magic student. Trouble is afoot from the very first paragraph and it isn't long before Wren and Connor are off on a quest to find what may be left of Wren's family, leaving Teressa and Tyron involved in palace intrigue. With so much material to work with (apprentice magician's, a budding romance, mean and stupid relatives), it is a shame that this book is such a humdrum effort. The characters are so lacking in depth that it is difficult at times to tell who is speaking. The plot speeds along, but it is so full of convenient devices and sketchy detail that there is never any chance for readers to be caught up in the action. Buy this one if there is a demand for the first one; otherwise, turn to Lloyd Alexander's Taran Wanderer (Holt, 1967) for magic and an orphan's quest for family. --Patricia A. From Kirkus Reviews

This sequel to Wren to the Rescue (1990) finds plucky Wren and Princess Teressa pursued by another sorcerous villain, with the magic of Wren, Prince Connor, and apprentice Mage Tyron barely adequate to overcome their new enemy, Hawk. Meanwhile, Wren learns the identity of her parents; Connor discovers his heritage as a wild, intuitive magician; and Tyron (like Wren in the earlier book) spends time as a dog. ``Hawk doesn't think anyone will figure out his plot,'' remarks Tyron near the end, and so much is going on here that readers may feel the same: a lost family, people turning into fish-folk, kidnappings, villains, and more. Still, there's a lot of camaraderie, as well as budding sexual tension and never-a-dull-moment momentum. There are also enough new leads for several sequels. Maybe next time someone will turn into a cat. (Fiction. 12+) -- Copyright ©1993, Kirkus Associates, LP. 5.0 out of 5 stars I love it!, March 27, 2000

This review is from: Wren's Quest (Hardcover)
I have read this entire seires dozens of times (and I am not exaggerating, ask my parents), and I still love it. I started reading this in first grade, loved it even though I did not understand it, and have continued to read it. I am now in sixth grade, and will never stop loving, or reading, for that matter, this book and the ones in the series.

I'm 16 years old and I loved this book . I won't tell you the plot because you need to read it for yourself.
