The Good - There are some decent graphics, with pretty detailed caricatures of the Superstars (but where's the crowd?). Each wrestler has his own completely unique moveset, strength, and speed, so it actually does matter which Superstar you choose as your own. You won't see The Honky Tonk Man slamming Andre the Giant on this game.

The Bad - The gameplay itself is slow and the controls aren't very responsive. The sound (including theme music) is just okay. There aren't any wrestling moves on this game (other than the "bodyslam", which is simply an ugly-looking pick-up and throw-down). The computer is also quite difficult (read: cheap), especially when you face off with stronger characters. In addition, there are only six wrestlers here: Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, The Honky Tonk Man, and Bam Bam Bigelow.

The Ugly - The "bodyslam", as mentioned. With its emphasis on brawling tactics, power-ups, and the fact that a wrestler only stays down when he is completely out, WrestleMania resembles a second-rate fighting game more than a wrestling game. It's also frustrating to play and probably wouldn't have been a hit if not for the novelty of finally having WWF/E wrestlers on the NES.

Recommendation to avoid.

Well it looks like Acclaim was trying to get their feet wet with the first licensed WWF video game. I picked this up at a flea market a couple of years ago, but really I had no memory of this game as a kid. Maybe because it was the first one they made, or maybe beacause it really isn't that good. I played a lot of the other wrestling games as a kid mostly for SNES and was hoping it would be like an earlier version of those games with the old school WWF characters that we usually don't get to wrestle with. Seeing Hogan on the cover just reminded me of when I was a kid so I bought it.

From the start it looks good. There's only 6 wrestlers to choose from but there all classics with there own invidual moves. The characters in the game for the most part look like the wrestlers (except Million Dollar Man)-looks like a fat cowboy. When you start the match you'll notice no crowd is present, the ring is surrounded by nothing but black space. The actual gameplay is pretty basic. Kick, and Punch, hold down both buttons and do a body slam.

Each guy has a custom move like Bam Bam Bigelow doing his cartwheel. You can climb the bottom turnbuckles and jump off them. That's about it. Unfortunately, body slams don't play too much into this game. Get down the moves and see if you can beat the tournament. If you do beat this game chances are your going to do it on kicks & punches.
I would basically skip this game all together if I could have. Go with any of the other titles that came out after this.

I know the graphics is not good, the sounds was bad, and lawd knows Nintendo itself kept blinking to play this game, but thats life in the late 80s early 90s with video games. After playing Pro Wrestling you needed an upgrade So Saturday Night Fever came out, but thats the Arcades. AT home Wrestlemania was just okay/ BUT THE FUN FACTOR is when you have all of your friends picking a wrestlers and going through a tournament. MAD FUN. FUN AS HELL. Some of my best time hanging out with the boys....life at 10 years old. Damn fun.
