A History Lesson,
This review is from: Wrestlers Are Like Seagulls-From McMahon To McMahon (Hardcover)
Having read several wrestler's biographies over the last few years, I would rate this one at the top. Both the subject, JJ Dillon, and the author Scott Teal put the time in to get the facts and dates correct. JJ kept records of his career and Teal made reading this enjoyable.
For old school wrestling fans this book is a history lesson. Starting as a fan, JJ Dillon became a referee, wrestler, manager and eventually working behind the scenes as an executive. The book just as his career left no stone unturned.

This is in the upper echelon of wrestling books. Dillon kept extensive notes about his career and Scott Teal is fantastic at fact checking, so it is extremely detailed and accurate. Lots of great stories from his 40+ years in the business, including some fascinating insight into Vince McMahon. Highest recommendation.

JJ Dillon was a wrestling fan who got to live his dream. Started wrestling in the early 1970's and stayed in the business for another 30 years. Pretty much what he didn't do wasn't worth doing. He is not afraid to tell stories about wrestlers and himself in this book.
The thing I liked about the book was Dillon's look at his own life and the mistakes that he made. His honesty is refreshing. Highly recommended.

I loved this book. It is a must-read for any fan of the N.W.A. To read about how a simple fan ingratiated himself with the wrestlers to get started in a wrestling career is fascinating. J.J. Dillion was honest and candid about the other wrestlers and always takes their perspective into account when retelling a story. The book also provides insights into Vince McMahan, Vince Russo and Eric Bishoff and just how bad it was at WCW at the end. I feel bad reading abot the injury he suffered during the "War Games" but I still think that the match in which he got seriously injured was the most exciting match I ever saw. In closing I thought it was equal to the Ric Flair and Brett Hart books, better than the Shaun Michaels and Rowdy Piper books.
