About the Author
Ken Chertow is one of our country's outstanding wrestlers and wrestling coaches. During high school Ken was a 2X West Virginia State Champion, Junior National Freestyle and Greco Champion and a Junior World Freestyle Champion. Ken attended Penn State University where he became a 3X NCAA All American and Academic All American, graduating from Penn State with a degree in Biology and a 3.6 GPA. Ken culminated his collegiate wrestling career as a member of the 1988 Olympic Team.He was formerly an assistant wrestling coach under Russ Hellickson at Ohio State, where he helped guide the Buckeyes to 4th and 5th place finishes in the NCAA Championships, the best finishes in school history. He then returned to his Alma Mater as the assistant wrestling coach at Penn State University, where he worked with John Fritz to lead the Nittany Lions to the top of the Big Ten and Nation. Ken currently is living in Huntington, West Virginia with his wife and daughter. He is teaching young people to excel at his wrestling camps.

As a coach, your success is tied to making scholarship commitments to the right young men who can and will return a commitment of their talent and work ethic to your program. Ken was an easy choice as he was clearly one of the right ones.Unfortunately for me, Ken chose to attend Penn State. Their gain - my loss!Ken had an illustrious academic and athletic career for the Nittany Lions, but fate smiled on me, when, following Ken's graduation in 1989, I was able to hire him as an Assistant Wrestling Coach for The Ohio State University.Over the next three years, I got to really know Ken and the personal qualities that make him a great teacher and coach. He has an enthusiasm for life and wrestling that is shared by very few. Don't even try to slow him down - ever!His intensity in training and in competition separate him from the crowd. The drive, the grit, the fight, were obvious in him every day. Ken is intensity personified.Ken understands the technical, physiological and psychological components of wrestling.
