My favorite Shuttle,
By
This review is from: Boye Metal Tatting Shuttle
I've worked with a lot of shuttles and always come back to this one. It's versatile and it feels good in my hand. I like the removable bobbin (spares available!) because it makes it so much easier to wind and unwind. The hook makes it easy to do joins. You can adjust the tightness of the bobbin by squishing or widening the body of the metal shuttle. I've used this shuttle with both ordinary and very fine thread (I had some silk quilting thread that came out gorgeous). It worked fine for making beaded tatting.

The removable bobbin might be convenient for some, however the edges are Extremely sharp, the hook too large, and the metal wrapped around the hook at the end catches thread. The shuttle is uncomfortable, and if the edges or metal at the hook end do not break your thread, it can definitely mar it.

Leaves marks on white thread,

I found I don't like metal shuttles, regardless of manufacturer, because often the metal marks white thread. The silver shuttles I own are more of a novelty, something pretty to look at. The Boye bobbin shuttle is practical, but I like neither the sharp edges on the hook, nor the marks on the thread.

Better than I thought it would be!,

Tatting shuttles are generally not expensive, so when I finally got the 'hang' of shuttle tatting, I wanted to try using one of each of the different styles. I'm very impressed with this one...It's not a pretty color...but it doesn't make that clicking noise when you extend thread off the bobbin that the other brands make...So, it's my 'go to' bobbin I use when tatting in bed. It doesn't make noise that can bother my hubby while he's sleeping!!!!
