5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect replacement for Larson storm door, December 29, 2008

This mortise lock worked perfectly as a direct replacement for the original lock installed on my Larson storm door. The finish is great and the lock appears to be of a high quality. Installation was a snap as it used all the same screw holes, etc. as the original mortise. The lock is also re-keyable to the typical Schlage key style, and before I installed it I brought it to the local hardware store and had them rekey it to match my ohter entry locks. Highly recommended!

Great hardware. Wish I would have purchased several years ago and saved the headaches. Easy installation and well made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Serenade Storm Door Lock Set, March 31, 2009
This review is from: Wright Products VMT115SN Accents Serenade Mortise Lockset, Satin Nickel (Tools & Home Improvement)
Quality product, heavier than expected, easy to install & looks great. Unlike some locks on the market where the handles are loose and jiggle around quite badly, this appears to be well made and assembled. I also like the clear plastic covering on the handles so they don't scuff if you lay them on the ground for a bit while you're installing it. Recommended.

I received this item 2 days after I ordered it-regular shipping. Thought they might have sent the wrong item-it was heavy. That's just a testamonial to it's construction, very solid. This was a replacement for an existing unit. Had to modify the holes in my door a little, nothing major and does it look great and work well. The wife loves it-nuf said.

The only issue with this product is the way the dead bold connected to the knob via a small screw. It could break easily under pressure or metal fatigue after number of months of usage.

This was just the item I was looking for to replace the worn out lockset that had been there for 20 years. It was much more reasonable than the lockset that Home Depot sold. It was easy to install, it looks great and works perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding storm door lockset..., November 7, 2011

This is the lockset Andersen Window Company uses on their best storm doors. We own three of them and they are excellent. Two have been used daily for 5 years with no issues, a major improvement over our previous storm door latches.

- the door latch contains a nylon insert to ensure a low friction closing action.

- lock works like other home deadbolts. Lock or unlock it from the inside with the knob, or from the outside using the key.

- it's elegant, and the solid lever handle is very nice

- the deadbolt assembly is removable after unscrewing a single 1 1/4" 10/32 flat-head screw from the door edge. As with any pin-tumbler lock, if the key mechanism sticks, use powdered graphite for lubrication, NOT oil, which can gum up the lock.

- Any Schlage compatible rekeying kit (available via Amazon), allows rekeying of this Schlage/Baldwin 5-pin tumbler deadbolt to another key. (You could also pay a locksmith.) Two rekeying methods are possible, one more than on most locks:

... disassemble the lock; insert the end of a plug follower into the rear of the cylinder housing - pushing the plug out the front of the housing; install pins matching your key into the plug and reassemble. Correctly reassembling this lock is a bit tricky, as some parts can be installed upside down or backwards.

... instead of disassembling the lock, remove the 5 tiny allen screws on the cylinder housing top; drop out the pin springs, top-pins, and pins; install pins matching your key, the top-pins, springs, and replace the Allen screws. This is the easier method.

- to install or disassemble the latch, the lever handles can be set vertically for easy access to each handle's locking Allen screw. While still in the vertical position, put one drop of oil on the tightened Allen screw head to retard rust (they are hardened steel).

This is an outstanding storm door lockset.

4.0 out of 5 stars Minor tweaking needed, August 26, 2011
This review is from: Wright Products VMT115SN Accents Serenade Mortise Lockset, Satin Nickel (Tools & Home Improvement)
The instructors are picture heavy and light on text. Took a few minutes to interpret. My door required some cutting to fit this lock, which was OK but I had already painted the door so it took some extra work to touch it up.

i was pretty happy with these....i got them for the front and back storm doors to replace the old ones that I didnt have keys for. I did have to drill new holes because they didnt match up with the old ones and it would have been nice if they both came with the same keys. They say that they are re-keyable to schlege but I went to home depot and they told me I would have to bring them in to have them re-keyed but I had already installed them...Oh well not a big deal just wanted to have everything on the same key..Anyway they look great and are high quality.

I was able to purchase this at my local Lowe's Hardware store for about $35 (even though it doesn't show up when searching through Lowe's online store). Like many of the other reviews, I found the construction to be quite solid and impressive. All I had to do to change from left swing to right swing handle was remove a screw and flip the latch around. I did find it odd that the box it came in said "polished brass" even though it was a satin nickel finish. No matter though, guess they only made one box for all their finishes.
