I am a quilter, who used to make my own circle templates out of card board. This ruler sure beats that approach!
It makes the job much easier and faster. With your own template you would need to re-create them after some use, as the edges would frey from tracing. This is not a problem with this ruler!

I like that it has multiple size right next to each other. It allows me to eye ball what size circle is best, and if I want circle within a circle you can see their relative size quickly, and can make a quick design decision.

The ruler works well with all my quilting pens and quilting pencils - it has the right size slits for easy work.

Typically I trace the half circle on the folded fabric and cut it out after removing the ruler. However, I have also used a small rotary cutter to cut right with the ruler in place. It works, however if you slip the ruler you can ruin the circle, so I normally go with the tracing first approach.

If you like to use circles in you work, this is definitely a nice tool to have!

I bought this ruler just the other day, and as I tried to use it with a 28mm rotary cutter as they suggested, I realized not all 28mm rotary cutters are made the same nor are all 18 mm cutters. I had checked on line and most site suggested using the Easy Cut 18mm rotary cutter that was designed later to use with this ruler. However, they are not easy to find and getting replacement blades are equally as difficult to get. I tried using 18mm rotary cutters thinking they would be easier. The Olpha 18mm RTY 4 did not work because the blade is not exposed enough and can not fit deep enough into the grooves of the ruler. However, if you can find a Komfort Kut 18mm rotary cutter by H.A. Kidd, they work just fine. So does a Komfort Kut 28mm rotary cutter, because these blades are exposed enough and will fit deep enough into the grooves. And lo and behold the Clover 28mm rotary cutter Art No. 7501, practical soft cushion handle also works beautifully. It's blade is also exposed enough to go down into the grooves. I think the trick is, that your cutting mat must be on a solid flat surface and you must take your time and go around the curve a little slowly and precisely. That way you do not knick the sides of the grooves in the curves. I hope this information is helpful to anyone considering buying this Easy cut Ruler who may not be able to find the rotary cutter and refill blades designed to use with this ruler. That was my dilemma. I couldn't get the rotary cutter or refill blades very easily. For that reason I have rated this ruler a 4. Perhaps the company has discontinued or no longer manufactures the rotary cutters .

After researching the different circle cutters in the market, I decided to get this one, because it would allow me to work with different materials, without having to spend that much money in different cutters (one cutter for fabrics, one for paper...). Anyway, the Amazon suggestions (underneath the product picture) showed that other people bought this ruler with the 1.8mm Olfa rotary cutter, which is listed with the best price. Sadly, I was disappointed to find out that the blade of the Olfa cutter is not exposed enough; when attempting to cut, it does not reach the material (it doesn't go deep enough in the grooves of the ruler). I had to buy the "EZ rotary cutter for EZ circle cut tool," at more than twice the price of the Olfa cutter. It works great and is very easy to use, getting perfect circles or half-circles each time. I don't like the fact that I've got to buy the special cutter for this ruler. That's how far my "let's save money try" went - and that's why I'm giving 4 stars to this ruler.
I'll use the Olfa cutter for paper (it's great for squiggly and funky cuts), and the EZ rotary cutter will be the fabric gizmo...
EZ... I really like your products, but seriously, where is the interest in helping crafters save a bit of money?

Place the line on the bottom of the ruler on a fold of fabric and use a rotarty cutter to cut along the curved slots. Great circles results!

Although this is a cutting template, I actually got it to mark my quilt tops for machine quilting. I like the weight of the template as it is heavy and seems durable. Wrights does a good job of manufacturing sewing aids. I found a tutorial on YouTube that shows how to use this template to mark your quilt tops for a Baptist Fan design. I found that the template makes marking the quilt top easy and accurate. I highly recommend this item for this purpose.

Quick way to cut great circles. I don't use the small rotary cutter with this. It is easier and quicker to use a sewing marker and cut with scissors.

Very disappointed with my purchase. I bought an 18mm rotary cutter specifically for use with this ruler. Turns out the ruler is so thick that the rotary cutter does not get to the fabric at all. I then used the next bigger rotary cutter (28 mm) and it did reach the fabric; however, it is tricky to go around the turn without gouging the plastic ruler. The 45mm rotary cutter did not work at all, it immediately gouged the plastic. I should have read all the reviews here on amazon.com. However, I feel that the description of this item is misleading; the manufacturer should point out that Olfa rulers won't work with this tool.
