Easy read, easy to do, and a noticable difference.,

This review is from: THE WRINKLE CURE (Hardcover)
This is the first time I've ever been persuaded to alter my diet or to try such costly skin care products. Lack of persistence and consistency is a weakness of mine and the claims sound like implausible hyperbole, until you actually try it.I breezed through the book the first night I bought it, bought two of his products soon thereafter (one product to firm around the eyes and another to firm the face), and didn't bother with the nutritional supplements (I thought the list was too long and there was no way I was going to figure out which ones were more helpful and the right amount of each to take, and when to take them throughout the day). Instead of rigorously following the diet, I just loosely tried to take his advice, drinking more water so I don't dry up and look like a prune, eating more fruit and veggies, eating more fish (especially salmon), and less red meat (though still stopping in McDonalds every now and then). Two weeks later I was out with a fellow I had dated a few times and he said I looked particularly attractive that evening. I told him I had had my teeth whitened. He said, no, it's not that, it's my skin, something is beautiful and different about it, he didn't know what. Then I told him I had been trying something new and that it must work, though he was the first person to say anything. The following weekend, my mother told me I looked nice, contented - perhaps it was something else? Last week I took two days off from work and the first day a guy flirted with me in the bookstore and gave me his business card, then the next day I was hanging out in the park and a guy introduced himself to me and kept hanging around me 'til I made it clear I was going my own way, without him. That kind of attention in two days hadn't happened in a long time. I'm not sure that I see a difference as quickly as 10 minutes, but I would lean toward saying yes, it works quickly. And even if it didn't, it's well worth reading the book and trying some of the recommendations. P.S. Saw the author on public television tonight and he said which 4 supplements are more important to take, so I'll try those soon (vitamins C and E, DMAE, and alpha lipoic acid), though I won't take them on a schedule as he suggested, but will instead be more random, maybe I'll take them all before work.

I saw this Doctor on Good Morning America!,
By A Customer
This review is from: THE WRINKLE CURE (Hardcover)
I saw Dr. Perricone on Good Morning America. Several volunteers agreed to go on his "three day skin diet." They were instructed on which foods were best for healthy skin. They used no special products, just followed the food plan. In three days they returned to the show and their skin was AMAZING. Diminished lines, smoother texture, just younger looking in general. Diane Sawyer said he was a dermatologist from Yale University. With those credentials and the really stunning results I bought the book. I've been following the program and taking some of the nutritional supplements he suggests, and I love the difference in my skin. I highly recommend The Wrinkle Cure.

Not a self-serving, profit seeking book. Practical advice!,

I paid too much for The Wrinkle Cure because I didn't buy it here. But it was worth every penny. The last chapter in the book evaluates all kinds of products, some a lot cheaper than Dr. P's formulas. The fact that Dr. P recommends the competition's products in many cases tells me the book is quite objective and not self-serving at all. Many of the recommended products are readily available at supermarkets and very inexpensive. Anyone who claims Dr. P is marketing his own stuff must not have finished the book. An easy read, tho some chapters discuss too much about what skin is. I don't care. I just want mine to look good and this book tells how. Also some superbly valuable info on what vitamins and minerals might also help with memory problems, etc. I highly recommend this book. I sought it out after asking a friend what she was doing to her skin, which was positively radiant almost overnight. She is following the diet recommended in The Wrinkle Cure.

This is a great book. It is easy to read, very informative, and the "cures" (at least the ones that I've tried) actually work. It contains information about the strengths and weakenesses of various types of skin, and how antioxidants can help. The author also gives the names of some skin care products that include antioxiodants. Okay, so he also recommends his own products in that list. I'm not offended by the self promotion. However, I did visit the author's web site and found the prices for his products to be very high. Later, I surfed the web, found a few web sites about making your own face creams and lotions, and tried adding the antioxidants to these concoctions. I experienced visible improvement of my skin after only a few days. My experience with my home made antioxidant face cream is consistent with the results the author describes in his book. So, from this perspective I say the theory behind the book is sound, and I highly recommend the book to others.

Forgive me if I tell you, "I look great!",

"The Wrinke Cure," has what everyone wants! This book contains all the proven information for maintaining and obtaining youthful skin but the benefits do not stop there. Guidance on diet, exercise, and nutritional supplementation for feeling recharged in every way is included. Most importantly, this is an easy and enjoyable program for everyone, including a busy professional like myself, to follow. I am sold on this program and, after trying it for a short time, can honestly say that I recommend it highly to all of my friends and family. (Oh yes! I feel wonderful too!)

As crude as it may sound,

I'm giving this book four stars for a couple of reasons. The first being that I don't dole out A's unless something is outstanding. The second...well that's the main reason. Anyway, this book is the most worthwhile purchase I have made in a very long time. I spent a good year running to tanning beds every other day while in my late 20's, and now in my early 30's I have begun to have some real problems with sagging skin that responds only moderately to topical treatments. The recommendations in Perricone's book have completely altered my standard of living. I will start with the dietary guidelines. The anti-inflammatory pro-antioxidant diet that he recommends has made a difference in so many ways. The first being that the bagginess and puffiness in my facial skin, is gone; secondly, my skin feels more moist and "perky", and third, as crude as it may sound, the diet has cured my years-long battle with constipation. Anyone who has had this nightmare will completely appreciate the effects of this diet. I have also begun to lose weight, which has also been an issue as I am getting to the point in my life where my body is changing and my metabolism is not that of a 22 year old. Perricone unabashedly promotes his products. Thanks to capitalism and competition, there are many reputable companies that produce similar products for less than half the price. Although I am still hard pressed to find a DMAE lip plumper. Check with Reviva labs' website if you are on a strict financial diet as I am. His constant recommendation of his products throughout the book is akin to looking at a beautiful man and admiring him, then suddenly he farts. It sours the information and instead of having the promotion interwoven throughout his text, putting paragraphs at the end of the chapters that list the recommended products might have been less, "intrusive". I have not purchased any of Perricone's products yet I am seeing results - fast. Here are my suggestions to anyone who purchases the book: follow the diet, buy some alpha lipoic acid and take it daily, and definitley find a good antioxidant supplement. There are many, many, many ways to follow the principles outlined in this book without breaking the bank or sticking with brand names. I'm very happy with the information I have gleaned from this read - and I would very much appreciate it if my Mom and Dad would finish reading the book so I can have it back :)

It absolutely works,

I am tickled by the negative reviews. This man advises that if you follow his suggestions, you will have much more beautiful skin than you presently have. He did not promise to change an ugly duckling into a beautiful princess. For that, you would have to look to another book, or maybe to God. This method will NOT give you high cheek bones if you were not born with them!!! Come on people. That said. If one follows the instructions given regarding dietary changes and paying special attention to the food groups that are emphasize in one's diet, you will see the results. Drink plenty of water. Use the supplements suggested; use sun screen and exercise -- It works. Be consistent, be persistent, and give it some time - a little patience. My only gripe is that one might be intimidated into thinking that one must use Perricone's products, which are outrageously expensive. That is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. However, I have found that with a little research, many of the products he talks about are offered by other manufactures for a fraction of Perricone's price. So, for example, Vitamin C Ester, DMAE and Alpha Lipoic Acid can be bought at fairly reasonable prices, certainly more reasonable than those offered by Perricone. And guess what? You can find substitutes in some of the same outlets that carry Perricone's products. Further, there is no cost involved in cutting sugar out of your diet - and water is available in abundance to everyone. Just drink it. Exercise is cheep - go walk around the block a couple of time - or the park if you are near one. Meditate - enjoy your life and your joy will also be reflected in your skin. In all my years I never had had beautiful skin. I DO NOW - ask my friends who are all asking me how I did it. To some I try to explain - to the more skeptical ones I say, "read 'The Wrinkle Cure.'"

I love the results!,

Bottom line: I love this book. I'm very up to speed on diet and nutrition. However, This is the first time I've tried a diet for my skin. My 40th b'day was coming up, so I thought, well, why not. And I gave it a try. After three days I saw a significant improvment in my complexion. I have olive skin, and although I don't have any major complaints, I thought it could loook better. I ate the fish, the fresh veggies, fresh fruit (all organic) and avoided sugar and coffeeI Drank green tea instead... and drank a lot more water than usual. I always take a multi-vitamin, and added alpha-lipoc acid to my supplement. My dermatologist formulated a cream with Alpha-lipoc acid, DMAE and Vit C Ester in it, which I've been using every other night for two weeks. I've had GREAT results. This book is sort of a prima donna handbook really... if you plan on dining on Mac Donalds or if you smoke or drink a lot but expect great skin - forget about it. You have to combine common sense with some special creams. It's simple to do... if you really want the results just do what the book says. Yes, he provides a list of where you can get the products (Which I found helpful) but you can get them formulated by your dermatologist as well. It's a good book.

An Absolute Must Read,
By Linda McLain (Hart, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: THE WRINKLE CURE (Hardcover)
I picked up The Wrinkle Cure in a bookstore recently...I was just having a leisurely browse. However, I knew I had picked up something that I must read and heed. The doctor gives wonderful hope, scientific insights, and specific resources for achieving and maintaining beautiful skin for a lifetime. I read the book from cover to cover....and then I put into action his suggestions for internal and external nourishment for the skin. It has been a successful experience. Thank you Dr. Perricone!

I borrowed this book from the library (sorry Amazon). It was a fast read and by luck I had already tried one of the supplements he recommends; Alpha Lipoic Acid (I grabbed the wrong bottle when intending to purchase Acidolphilus). Periodically I would take some trying to use it up. I never made the connection between taking Alpha Lipoic Acid and better looking skin until I read the book. Once I put the two together I thought there may be something to what he said.I started taking the Alpha Lipoic Acid supplements I already had and purchased vitamin C Esther and Coenzyme Q10. Since Perricone advocated using moisturizers that contained these vitamins I popped a coenzyme Q10 capsule and smoothed the contents over my face at night (it makes you look jaundiced). Later I purchased a cream containing these vitamins from the Vitamin Shoppe via Amazon (it cost $14) and I use it at night. During the day I use Nivea's Q10 Plus moisturizer with sunscreen. Have I noticed a difference? A small one, yes. The wrinkles are less deep and less noticeable, though still there. My skin has a healthier appearance - brighter (my skin was looking dull and haggard for awhile). I will keep taking the supplements because I think they make a difference. However, I will purchase them from the drug store where they are affordable and I take one each a day. (I've noticed that putting coenzyme Q10 on a cut makes it heal faster.) |
