4.0 out of 5 stars Great teaching resource for a great book, August 8, 2008
This review is from: A Wrinkle in Time Study Guide (Paperback)
I really like Progeny Press. It gives you the flexibility to use what you need from the study guide. You can use just parts or all of the study guide depending on what kind of depth you want your students to study the literature; it is your choice. "Wrinkle in Time" is one of our favorite books but can be confusing on what exactly the themes and symbols are. The guide helps the student dig and look for what is important without me, the teacher, spoon feeding it to them. This encourages your student to explore and discover, and I have found it helps them develop those critical thinking skills for literature.

The guide has many levels of thinking and exploration activities. There are concept questions, anaylsis questions, pre-reading activities, vocabulary exercises, discussion questions, literary device explanations, essay question ideas, and "Dig Deeper" questions. The dig deeper questions brings in Christian scripture references and guides the student to relate to the characters within a Christian view by asking students to analyze what a character is doing or saying. L'Engle writes from a Christian World view and there are many thought provoking questions in this area. Again, this part of the guide can be used or ignored; it's your preference.

Another important feature of the guide is that all the pages are reproducible and you have copying rights from the publisher to copy for your individual class or home. This makes it affordable for a classroom project.
