4.0 out of 5 stars Great practice for writing!, May 26, 2005
This review is from: Write It in Arabic: A Workbook and Step-by-Step Guide to Writing the Arabic Alphabet (Paperback)
I couldn't give this book five stars because it lacks CDs to accompany it, but it is GREAT for practicing your writing and learning some additional vocabulary and/or reviewing some of the words you learn on the way. I recommend this as a supplement for writing practice, NOT as something you get to begin learning MSA (Modern Standard Arabic). I will keep coming back to this book throughout my first year to practice my writing with the exercises it provides. Good book for starting but BEWARE it has no CD and some sounds in Arabic NEED to be hear in order to learn!
Overall I highly recommend this book for beginners to practice their writing and pick up/review some vocabulary words. No real grammar included, the writer stated that this book was not designed to be a thorough introduction to MSA but guide to writing and reading Arabic.

5.0 out of 5 stars It took me back to Kindergarten, May 25, 2007

I am trying to self learn Arabic and this book was so much fun. It is very basic which is what I needed. The book opens from right to left and forces you to write that way. First you trace the letters and learn the sounds and then you learn how to write on your own. There are several basic exercises that help with you with distinguishing the letters and sounds in words. This book doesn't get into semantics and linguistic explanations...thank God. It just gives you exactly what you need to know in a very basic way...as if you were in kindergarten. I agree that it might have been better if the book came with a cd but it was fun to use and is a great resource for beginners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helps you read & write any language that uses Arabic script!, April 6, 2008

I am using Rosetta Stone to learn Persian (Farsi) because it's become necessary for my work. While Rosetta Stone is fantastic for learning to speak, it doesn't provide any help at all with understanding the mechanics of the written language, including recognizing 'letters' and writing the in new language. I looked around and happily discovered this book, which gives a detailed guide to reading and writing Arabic script.

The wonderful thing is, this book helps with ANY language that uses Arabic script for writing, not just Arabic itself. The book teaches the script much like learning to write cursive in grade school---first the individual letter, then how to connect two letters together.

This book will not teach you how to speak the language, only how to recognize and write the letters of Arabic writing. It makes a great supplement to help you in learning one of the Near-Eastern languages.

This book is exactly what it says - a workbook for learning to write in arabic script. You learn letters and then connet them into words. It has plenty of practice for each letter and uses the letter in useful vocabulary words. Don't rely on it for grammer, thematic vocabulary, etc. but I thought it was great for the alphabet.

I highly recommend this book for anyone learning Arabic on their own or who wishes to complement in class instruction. For those who have adequate in class instruction the book is not all that necessary.

It is very similar to those writing sheets you had in elementary school to learn script. It is fairly comprehensive. It is important to note that this is not intended to teach you anything other than how to form the letters! That is all you will learn, so I recommend that you find other started vocabulary books to begin using the script for.

Very good a quick way to pick up the right way to learn some Arabic when I was looking for the right type book to help me read it I knew I would have to practise this helps out I almost broke my hand with this one. I think it looks good overall.

My main points are covered here how to connect my consonants and vowels and make them fit together in a way that looks good and without being too messy now I am just a little further toward my goal and if I could keep it forever I would just wanted to make sure I got a way to write what I need to write when I have the chance.

My only choice so far I may need more copies so I can learn more Arabic native English speaker so I am getting a copy for the bff. On the whole, recommend
