How to Write and Give a Speech,
By ann ottenberg (Silicon Valley, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Write and Give a Speech: A Practical Guide For Executives, PR People, Managers, Fund-Raisers, Politicians, Educators, & Anyone Who Has To Make Every Word Count (Paperback)
The Washington Post praised this as a "how-to classic" and I would agree with them. It's well-organized and filled with top-quality professional advice. It's also very 'readable' - which sets it apart from so many public speaking texts.I found this book saved me a lot of time and worry, both in preparing formal speeches and informal presentations. Most important, it will make you a much better, and more confident, speaker.

I'm sure there's a better book on giving speeches but this one was so good that I'm not interested in looking for it. This book was simple enough for anyone to read and get something out of it yet detailed enough to help you complete and polish a great speech.

Loaded with information on how to formulate great speeches and presentations. Easy reading, simple and to the point. Cites examples for usage and and an appendix of several books Joan list for cross referencing. A must have (in my opinion) for those who want to effectively speak publicly.

This book on speeches and presentations is so short I finished it in a day. But every sentence has a morsel to chew on. Detz gets to her point quickly and moves on. The advice is practical and well seasoned. I only wished there were more real life examples. No wonder its been in print for over 25 years. I highly recommend it.
