Oh my goodness. With this CD, R. Kelly has just cemented himself as one of the greatest R&B artists of all time. I just don't know where to begin. The lyrics are superb. The arrangements are superb. The production is superb. The writing is superb. The singing is superb. The rhythm of every song on the CD is superb. The choice for the order of the song list is superb. It is nothing short of masterful and it is what perfection should, and does sound like. I am too impressed.

In this CD, R. Kelly pays homage to some of the greatest R&B artists of our time. You will experience the flavor of Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Ron Isley, Michael Jackson, a little bit of Ray Charles and yes, even some Little Anthony. He does this all while at the same time keeping it incredibly spicy and current. The beats are funky as heck.

Dear Mr. Kelly, I'm writing you back. This is real music and it is truly received with love and appreciation. Thank you R. Kelly for your hard work on the production of this CD and for putting the `R' and `B' back into R&B. For sure, you are the master of rhythm!

R. Kelly's last album, LOVE LETTER, felt like a throwback: as much influenced by modern music as it was influenced by mo-town and classic R&B. From the first track of WRITE ME BACK, R. Kelly announces that he hasn't forgotten the past. This album takes lessons from the past and gives them a slick, modern production. Who says pop music has to be vapid? The songs here on WRITE ME BACK feel authentic, from the heart, and retro.

"Love Is" is a throwback to the origins of Motown; it's seductive, loving, and soulful. "Feelin' Single" is another great song that takes what was great about past R&B and refines it. "Lady Sunday" feels like an homage to Marvin Gaye -- flutes in the background, great harmonies, flowing rhythm. Some of these songs are more modern than others: "Believe in Me" is excellent, marked by pianos and Kelly's delivery. R. Kelly is so confident in his work; lead single "Share My Love" is a disco song. It wouldn't sound out of place for Donna Summer to have this instrumentation as a backing track. It's a good song, but not the best of the album. The first half of the album feels a bit better than the second half of the album -- it's hard to beat the 1-2-3 punch of those first three songs.

Anyone who enjoyed LOVE LETTER should check out this new release. Anyone who was annoyed by Kelly's more soulful work might be able to skip this one: there's no "Ignition" or "Down Low" here. Standout tracks to sample/download: "Feelin' Single," "Lady Sunday," and "Believe in Me."

Additional Release Info: The deluxe version of WRITE ME BACK comes with 4 extra songs: "Beautiful In This Mirror," "You Are My World," "Fallin' From The Sky," and "One Step Closer." Fans of Kelly should check out this edition, but casual fans could probably stick with the normal edition.

Disclaimer: I am writing this review based on the deluxe edition of 'Write Me Back'

After seeing reviews on this album, I thought I would put my 5 cents in. I am not going to do a review of each song because it is plenty already posted. Instead, I am going to do just an overview. With that being said...if you like albums TP3 Reloaded and/or Double Up, this album isn't for you. If you like Love Letter, Happy People, Untitled, TP-2.com, then you will enjoy this little journey down memory lane. For those who have been paying attention, R. Kelly has paid homage here and there all they way back to the 12 Play album. He set his fans up by letting them know on the Untitled album that he was about to change it up. Write Me Back takes you through the generes that helped formed the artist we know as R. Kelly today! He brung out the music your mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa listened to and perfected it well. Each song takes you down memory lane but at the same time he still has that R. Kelly flavor in each song! This album is different from the norm and should be appreciated from what is currently being played on the radio. R. Kelly was right when he said this kind of music is lacking because IT IS! Once you hear the first beat to the first track, your soul immediately becomes appreciative. You will hear the sounds of Stevie Wonder, The Spinners, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Smokie Robinson, Ray Charles, just to name a few. Don't take my word for it. Listen to some tracks and get a feel for it. Yes, this is different from the R. Kelly we are ALL use to but EVERY artist likes to reach out and do music that they ALWAYS wanted to do...Raphael Saadiq did it so why not R. Kelly. Take a seat, lay back, relax your mind, and let the music soothe your soul and massage your ears! Enjoy!

"R-RAH " Kelly has done it again! Dang! I-love-EVERY-cut. Mr. Kelly has a little bit of this, that, and the other on this one. From his butter sweet ballad,("One Step Closer", that reminds me of the ultra sexy crooning of Marvin Gaye, to his style of song that makes you want to "step, step, step to the left" ("Feelin' Single") He even has a little something that makes you reminiscent of the Motown sound of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles ("Fool for You"). He mixes in a little Michael Jackson flavor ("You Are My World"), to let us know, MJ's spirit will live on in the artists and fans who will never forget. He even collaborates with the sounds of the master of whispering, the "you take my breath away", sexy sounds so close to your ear - Mr. Ronald Isley (Green Light"). Oh, yeah, there is a cut that has a 50's Chuck Berry sound ("All Rounds on Me"), and that cut is da bomb too. In my opinion, he pays homage to all of those artists, but puts his own R-RAH Kelly flame to it. You know how when your grandma cooks something that is d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s and you say "she put her foot in it". Let me tell y'all, Mr. Kelly put both of his feet in this CD and just walked all up in it! Musically, this brotha's swag is head and shoulders above a lot of what's out there now, that some pawn off as R&B/Soul music. Please don't sleep on this one y'all. I don't give many reviews, but this CD moved me enough to be up at 2 a damn clock in the morning typing, giving my 2 cents. This CD is packed with good-a** music that soothes you, moves you, makes you remember, and just makes you feel good. I was dancing around the house earlier to it, and my 13 year old looked up, and said "Really, Mom?". I just laughed, and said, "Really" and kept right on jammin'!! Thank you, R. Kelly for giving us a buffet of sweet, sweet sounds of truly good music. Peace.
