From the Author

I personally use the strategies inside this eBook to write my own books in record time. I wrote a 120-page book in 3 1/2 days, and then adapted some of the strategies to write my two "21 Ways" books in 4 hours and 6 hours. Some of the strategies take discipline, but they work!

As a writer myself who has sped up my writing process significantly over time, I find the tips in this book are pretty much in line with what I've discovered on my own for stream lining the writing process.

The thing you've got to keep in mind with something designed to help you write quickly is that you're not going to write a masterpiece in 3 1/2 days. Books that focus only on producing work quickly, almost by necessity, rely on sacrificing quality.

The thing I liked about this guide was that it focused on how to achieve the balance between working so fast the quality is poor vs. being overly perfect to the point that it takes you forever to finish. So don't be mislead and think you're going to write a completely polished, edited, and perfect work of great length in only 3 1/2 days without needing more fine tuning.

If you've been writing for years, you may not pick up anything too new in this book as for myself it was mostly reminding me of what I've already discovered through trial and error. But if you're just getting going, or need a good reminder (we can all get off track) as to what it takes to create the best quality product in the quickest time, then this book can be very helpful to have in your arsenal. The minimal investment to learn these tactics can save you a lot of headache down the road.

The idea behind this book is to help the writer take a book project from a pile of related notes and research material to a book that is ready to edit into finished copy. The goal of the three-and-a-half-day writing marathon is to designate a focused period of organizing and rewriting material until you have a book that is one continuous piece of work. At the end of the three days, you have a quantity of pages not ready for publication, but complete first draft ready to further refine and edit.

Ms. Eckstein explains how she believes it is a myth that a book that is ready for publication can be written in a single weekend. I thank Ms. Eckstein for that observation. Professional writers would never dream of letting an inferior product be put out for public scrutiny, they know that inferior writing quality are the marks of an inferior writer. As a writer, I personally have felt guilty and inadequate because I was not able to put out quality books as quickly as these "write a book in a weekend" gurus claimed could be done. After reading this book, I feel more confident that intuitively, I am on the right track as a writer.

I would definitely recommend this book to other writers who are considering plunking down money to attend workshops promising that he or she would be able to write a publishable work in a weekend. At a measly 99 cents, this book could save them a lot of money and heartache.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for me sadly. June 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've been writing for about 8 years. I've written two dozen or more books and most of non fiction while a handful are fiction. Generally I write for clients as a ghostwriter. I bought this book with the hope of speeding up my writing process to get done with a project in 5 days instead of 4 weeks.

BUT the content within this book is very basic and the information is mostly story/example based. I found one "gem" and nothing more. The rest of the book provided little motivation and no new forms of advice. Very happy it was only 99cents and took less than an hour to read. I DON'T recommend this book to experienced writers because the content is something you've read in many many books. New writers should find this helpful depending on their level of experience.

There are many books that can be found online via online forums that provide a much better guide to writing non fiction faster.

More About the Author

Kristen Eckstein, the Ultimate Book Coach, is a sought-after independent publishing expert, two time best-selling author and award-winning international speaker. Her reputation is to create books that build your business through Ghost Publishing, a term she coined to define her exclusive independent publishing programs.

Kristen loves books - reading them, writing them and helping other people publish them. She has been interested in all aspects of books ever since she was 5 when she read her first Nancy Drew book. In 2003, Kristen began her book career when she co-ran a vanity publishing company that featured a traditional publishing arm. During this time she learned the ins and outs of vanity, subsidy and traditional publishing - what to look for, what to avoid and how to make sure authors don't get ripped off.

Ultimately, Kristen left that publishing company behind and co-founded Imagine!Studios LLC, an art and media production company, with her husband Joe. They soon began publishing authors' books again under their own label. Relocation caused them to hand that portion of their business off to another capable publisher and Kristen began her role as an independent publishing book coach. In 2011, Kristen founded the "21 Ways" series of pocket guidebooks under the traditional publishing label of her company, Discover! Books.

Now Kristen spends her time helping others get into print. To date she has started 44 publishing companies and published 122 books and eBooks, 13 of those her own. She has taken a complicated publishing process and broken it down step by step through her Ghost Publishing method which puts the author in control of the process. Do you have a book you've been meaning to write? Let Kristen Eckstein help you publish the book that will bring you business!
