Self-Publishing - You Need to Go Indie

The Kindle has made it easy to publish your own work without going through a traditional publishing company and being saddled with a contract that favors the company over the author. By self-publishing, you keep the majority of the sales money - not the other way around. Plus, you get the pleasure and pride of being a published author!

Worried That You Can't Write a Book Fast Enough?

Using the author's five-step blueprint, you'll learn how to quickly outline, research, write, polish, and publish - all in as little as 72 hours. If you know your topic, you really can write your book quickly using the strategies detailed in this book.

Step #1 Outlining is the key to fast writing. How to outline - but not like you learned in high school!

Step #2 Research topics quickly and effectively

Step #3 Learn distraction-free writing - up to 2,000 words an hour

Step #4 Revise and polish. Rinse and repeat.

Step #5 Cover design and formatting

Unsolicited email from author Margie Layton:

"I found your “How to Write & Sell Non-Fiction Kindle Books” after midnight last night. I had downloaded books for hours it seemed, trying to find a simple, easy book on how to format and submit a book to Kindle. (I’m very new to this.) With a headache from wondering how so many people could write so much and say so little, I was about to give up and go to bed when I found “the mother lode”! Your Book! How could I have missed it?? Headache forgotten, my eyes could not move fast enough until I finished it. I’m not sure what time that was. Before I sit down today to read (instead of “gulp”) it again I must thank you. My wish is that someday one of my readers will find that excitement and joy of reading in one of my books that I just found in yours. THANK YOU.

5.0 out of 5 stars How I knew this book would be good... December 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I knew this book would be good inside of the first few pages. Want to know how I knew?

I've been involved in the marketing space in one fashion or another for a number of years now. One of the ideas I've seen spread around (and absolutely can't stand) is that virtually anyone can enter any niche or category, regardless of their knowledge of that subject/niche. It's a commonly said/spread idea that if you read two books on a topic, you'll know more than 80% of the people interested in that topic. Thus, BOOM - you're an instant expert.

This is such unadulterated crap. This idea is why there are so many lousy and useless products (of all kinds - reports, books, courses, videos, programs, etc) in so many areas.

Nancy tackled this almost immediately, stating how the "quick and dirty" route will lead to nothing but "dead ends". I like that.

When I learn something new, I like to learn from someone that is obviously smarter than I am. Preferably, I want to learn from someone who has genuine experience in and has been successful at what they're teaching me. Nancy has and is both.

Her method is simple, straight-forward, and actionable. It's not magic, and will take work. However, anything worth doing will result in some work, so you should have expected that.

I don't like to try and argue about opinions online (because noone ever wins when that happens), but there's a 2-star review on this book that states that it "Needed more Amazon-specific information" and "Shows would-be authors how to do the bare minimum to get a book on Kindle", implying that the book was deficient. I would have to respectfully disagree.

4.0 out of 5 stars Writing for Kindle Gem! December 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book covers a great deal of detail if you are looking to write a kindle book. It shows you how to outline, do research, it discusses grammar, and how to put a whole kindle book together the correct way. Marketing is important as the book stresses and it is written in easy to understand terms. One of my favorite chapters is on quality vs. quantity. Amazon customers want and deserve the best. This book is it! Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid system and resources December 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are a lot of Kindle publishing books out there but it's nice to read one that has been written by someone who actually makes a living as a writer. The author, Nancy Hendrickson, has written over a dozen print books, Kindle books, and many articles. She lays out her five step process that covers everything from Outlining to Publishing. I'm also a published author, but I still picked up many tips and took notes of her specific resources for cover designers and easy way to format and convert your manuscript. Overall a quick read with solid tips for newbies and pro's alike.

I'm new to the Kindle world...but not the Internet Marketing World. As we all know or get to know very quickly, is the concept of "quality content is King!" I've written two Kindle books over the last couple of months and have been fortunate to have had them ranked as Best Sellers in their respective catagories. That's the good news..the bad news is that creating content for me has been slow and painful. This book has provided me with a structure, process and metrics that makes sense to me and I can't wait to try it out. Nancy, thank you for sharing.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to Write for Kindle December 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
These statements: "Anyone can write for Kindle, but not everyone can produce a quality book in a short period of time. This book will show you how." which you will find in the introduction as the first two sentences, are very straight to the point. I like books that don't beat around the bush, saying things that have the same idea and, in the end, you don't really get anything from it.

The book covers a lot of topics about writing but what struck me the most was the part where the author introduced herself. You surely will not find that in any other similar type of book. It made me feel reassured that whatever I am about to read comes from someone who knows what she's talking about, making the topics more believable and do-able.

This is a great book to read if you're interested in writing, if writing is already your passion or if you're someone who wants to take a peek on what it would take to write. It's still going to be informative anyway and most of the concepts you can apply to anything that involves writing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, even for seasoned nonfiction writers. February 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have about a dozen best-sellers in Kindle, right now. Why would I need a book like this?

Well, out of simple curiosity, I read the "look inside" preview and saw something that intrigued me. And, of course, the preview cut it off before I got to the juicy stuff.

So, I bought it.

Frankly, this is brilliant. It's not that the general plan is terribly original. It's not.

However, how it's explained -- the author's exact tweaks to the process -- are what make it different and highly motivating. They're also really practical.

In addition, she mentioned a couple of resources I hadn't heard of (and some I'd heard of but never considered for research), and any one of those was worth the price of this book.

I'd say a lot more about this wonderful book, but -- to be perfectly honest -- I'm about to sit down and write an outline the way she recommends, because I am determined to complete my next book in 72 hours, or less!

This is a smart purchase if you're writing nonfiction and don't have a sleek, by-the-numbers approach to your research & writing process. (And, face it, if your existing system was that great, you wouldn't be considering this book and reading my review... right?)
