This is straight up, no nonsense, to the point advice from the best selling craft book author of all time. Mark is the foremost authority on this topic and in this book he will literally take you by the hand and show how to go from idea to submission to publication and promotion. Nobody does it better and nobody is better equipped to teach you how to turn your dream of becoming a published craft author into a reality. Get this book, it's worth every penny and more, trust me.
Author The Fine Art of Shameless Self Promotion
Unlike Mark's series of "Big" books, this book is available in digital form only and is not nearly as big in its number of pages. It is, however, HUGE on info for the budding craft book author. Should I self-publish or try to find a publisher? Should I look for a literary agent or approach the publishers directly? How much money can I really expect to make? And what about publicity? Mark presents answers to all these questions and more, with his usual flair. Writing a book and getting it published is lots of work, but Mark is both generous and thorough with his information. He not only explains exactly what goes into writing a book proposal, he provides the actual book proposals from two of his best selling books that were published by Simon and Schuster!
And what if you're not that far along in the book writing process? In his first chapters Mark shows the way with a step by step guide to planning and writing your "how to" craft book. Be aware that most of the tips in this section are really aimed at someone who's future craft book will fall into the "how to" or DIY project category.
In this book Mark is candid about the potential rewards and the daily effort. I'm glad to learn these things from someone who really knows.
Love the examples of his earlier proposals! Makes it much easier to envision your own. Kudos to Mark for bringing crafters a much needed guide to bringing their own ideas to life!
The advice Mark shares in this book is priceless. He opens his mind and guides you through the process from conceptualizing the book, to writing the proposal, to successfully marketing the finished product. It's the ultimate how-to for anyone considering delving into the world of DIY book writing.
Mark truly challenged me to begin to take a good long look at my creative style, and try to define it more clearly. His advice will inspire you to do the same, even if a book proposal isn't in your future - Mark has made me a believer that defining your creative style to market yourself in the creative industry is essential.
Not only is the book full of extremely helpful information, Mark also shares actual samples of two book proposals he submitted and has successfully had published. How can you better guide a reader through a process than sharing your own successful versions? Each proposal is professionally written, yet also lets Mark's vibrant and humorous personality show through. I truly admire the fact that he is not afraid to be himself and his enthusiasm is infectious. Mark Montano is proof that you can be yourself, don't have to try to fit into a pre-conceived mold, and can be hugely successful in the creative world, and now he shares his wisdom to help others further their creative careers.
How to Write a Best Selling Craft Book is a book I will definitely refer to again and again as I begin my journey into the world of writing books for publication, and I think it's well worth the investment for anyone considering giving it a try for themselves.
