From Library Journal
This audio presentation is intended for those who aspire to write a publishable short story. Sounding like a gentle parent, McInerny, best known for the "Father Dowling" mystery series, guides would-be writers through the writing process by first showing how to discover story ideas and then how to proceed through first draft and subsequent revisions. The unique feature of these 12, 30-minute lessons is the "write along with me" approach. McInerny includes (in a printed booklet that accompanies the tapes) six of his own first drafts and discusses in detail what he is doing at each stage. Sounding knowledgable and unaffected, he gives helpful advice about getting published, ending a story effectively, and being a writer. Most important for the novice, though, this course provides the motivation to write, the audio format being especially effective in this respect. Highly recommended for collections serving aspiring writers.
